When I first installed this filter on my 15 gallonAcrylic aquarium, it spit out air bubbles for hours attempting to purge air. I couldn’t figure out where the air the air was coming from, so I got on You Tube and did some research. I discovered that it could be the main gasket separating the top of the filter from the lower part of the canister not being fully sealed. So I opened it up and lubricated the gasket using coconut oil. Then I pushed down on the top before clamping it shut and that got rid of the air bubbles. It worked! I almost returned it but I am glad I didn’t because this filter works great clearing up my tank in a couple of hours. It has good flow and packs a lot of media.

Overall value is ok, not great but okThose of you who are having bubble problem. Try using food grade silicon grease around the pipe flow dial, you'llhave to use your nail to pry it out and put some grease around the rubber gaskets and also the canister and the top part. There's a rubber gasket around the bottom of the top art where the motor is. Use some silicon grease with a good amount around with the rubber gasket. Remove the pipes and put some on the base of the pipes where the thread of the pipe is to make good seal. And then test it out if it works.Update. After 6 months of use without issues, the pipe outlet broke at the thread causing leaks. Contacted support to see if the can replace the outlet pipe.Update 2024. The unite started gargling and the the insert where you connect the pipes was a slurp sound. I then inspect the base of the pipe that has the thread and it was cracked. DO NOT BUT. The pipes are made of very fragile, easy toe crack low quality pipes. it would have been helpful if they strengthen the base of the pipes where you screw it to the Unit. Waste of time and moneyJust stick with HOB non-canister filters. These are susceptible to leaks, cracks and waste of money.

With CO2 injection in my 20G high tank it was hard with my HOB filter to distribute co2 most efficient no matter how I positioned filter or diffuser.I wanted a outlet that is below the watersurface but didnt need a huge canister filter. This one was perfect for my needs.Its more powerful then the fluval c2 I had.the lowest setting is enough for my tank. Its easy to install and has lots of room for filter material.A few things though:As other mentioned the compartment closure between boxes is silly. But a minor issue that u can solve by cutting of the clips.The plastic clips to hang it over a rim, seems a bit cheaply made. It hangs over my black rim that has an edge inside of the aquarium so its not fully gripping the full rim. I was sceptical if it holds, but so far it does...Unfortunately, if u use the lowest setting there will always be a little bit of "bubble noise" on and off. I filled it up till it overflowed when putting the lid up. I played around with the inlet and outlet. But the conclusion is the same: higher flow - no noise. Lowest flow some bubble noise.

I had a normal HOB filter I bought YEARS ago with my small tank when I got into the hobby. I now have to tanks. A 55gal with a canister filter that works amazing, and I LOVE it. My 20gal long tank had an older version of the Aqueon quiet flow 50 with an axolotl in it. I was constantly trying to find ways to baffle it so the current wasn't too strong and stressing the axolotl out. I bought this to replace the HOB. It works great! Shipping was super fast I got it next day which is kind of amazing since we live out a ways from town. It's easy to assemble and works just like a normal canister filter. The flow is adjustable but since it also comes with a spray bar it was even more enticing. I used some of the ceramics, filter media I had in my old my HOB filter and just cut the sponges to fit this. No need to re-cycle. My axolotl is super happy now. The out put is not too high and it's even quieter then the last filter.

Ordered for a 40 gal aquarium for a red eared slider turtle. The 1st pump didn't work out of the box. Emailed customer service & they answered same day. They promptly sent me another one with suggestions on how to get it to work. This pump did work and I have to say it worked really good... The entire 3 days it ran. Woke up to a dead pump. Before I bought this I watched several YouTube videos on assembly, care and maintenance of the pump and I followed the instructions to the letter. I don't know if I just got 2 bad pumps or if they're just not a good pump. They offered to refund my money, but I went thru Amazon for the return. If I could I'd give them 5 stars for customer service. They really do go above and beyond. It's just too bad this pump is so bad. I recommend you keep looking.

I really want to love this thing. The ability to have canister filtration with a hang on style. "The location the tank is in wont allow a canister" the good....works excellent when it works. Has a really good strong "adjustable" flow. I loaded my media of choice and it's doing a great job keeping my tank clean. The bad....it arrived with a broken port for the out side as well as a misplaced o ring that was horrible to dig out and was damaged. I replaced this ring with one from another filter. The pump lost suction and stopped working daily until I also replaced the o ring on the intake side. Now it runs excellent. But....if you have to unplug it for any reason it has to be completely removed, opened up and filled to the very top to re-prime and get it going again "bit of a pain". So final words, it's an excellent idea. A few tweaks and I would buy a dozen more. But in it's current state I'm looking for other options.
