The prices don't vary by shade. They do vary seemingly randomly, but only by about half a dollar. Amazon pricing is a group buy discount combined with supply and demand. Popular shades can be bought from the manufacturer in bulk and sold a little cheaper, but if supply drops they'll rise in price rapidly. Less popular shades are bought in smaller amounts from the manufacturer and have to be priced a little higher individually, but remaining stock will be clearanced out periodically to keep it from expiring. This brand though is priced so low that I'm not sure why you're complaining.
