UGREEN USB Sound Card Adapter with TRS 3.5mm Headphone & Mics

It's been an excellent option for recording; I use it with a separate audio console, a condenser microphone, and everything connected to a laptop. I can make all my recordings with it, and it delivers good audio quality. For the price, it's a fantastic option. Plus, it's easy to install on any other PC because it's USB. Just plug and play.

Bought this to troubleshoot a pc, works easily and is auto detected by Windows with no special driver install required.

I needed a soundcard for my pc. The old one just died, I replaced it and that one made my pc crash every time you looked at it. I took a chance on this, not knowing how it would work. I have no regrets. It can't get any easier. Plugs into the usb port and into whatever speaker set up you have. Really, no instructions needed. Plug in the speakers and then plug into the usb port. done!

This audio jack is a lifesaver. The integrated sound card on my (rather elderly) HP tower started sending the most horrific sounding audio to my sound system--a depressing mess of echoes, phasing and reverb-like noise. I finally concluded the sound card was the problem and figured I needed a new one. I had no expansion slots left so I figured I had to get an external sound card. Then this type of device, which I'd never heard of, appeared as an easy, inexpensive solution. It takes the place of your existing sound card and all you have to do is go into your settings and disable your old card so this device has room to work. Easy fix. I have sound again and it's a cleaner sound at a higher bandwidth. I couldn't be happier with it!

Speakers are listed as Speakers!!!!! The USB audio adapter I had before listed the speakers as headphones. This device is true to type and the speakers are indicated appropriately. Before I also had a slight poppling/cracking sound before. With the UGREEN device, the popping and crackling sound is gone and my speakers sound great as expected. Highly recommended if you are adding speakers to a USB hub that does not have a built in audio jack.....

As a simple USB DAC for output (i.e. computer/device audio being played through headphones), this device works quite well. Frequency range is quite good, but this is no surprise considering CMedia's chipsets are decent at this, as the company has had nearly 2 decades to refine their ICs. However, the problems began with input (i.e. microphone). Testing was done using a MacBook Air (2017 model), OS X 10.14.6, and a Sennheiser GAME ONE headset with integrated mic. Most reviewers would write "the microphone didn't work", so I'll be more verbose: When the USB mic input volume in OS X was set to maximum, no audio could be heard unless I literally screamed into the microphone, after which the audio that was picked up was extremely low in volume whilst sounding compressed (distorted, crackling). It was as if the peak/gain was through the roof, something only controlled by the DAC itself. I got a replacement from Amazon, thinking the issue might have been just a bad port, but the same problem happened. Whilst anecdotal, I suspect the problem relates impedance (a.k.a. resistance). The GAME ONE headset is a high impedance headset and the microphone is likely subject to similar impedance levels as the cans themselves (though for mics this is output impedance, not input!). In other audio chipsets (e.g. Realtek), a feature called "Mic Boost" rectifies this by allowing the user to select a +10/20/30dB "boost" on the microphone, effectively providing more voltage. For this to work, the actual audio chip must support it, and the OS must offer control over it. The USB audio class specification does not provide a native way to toggle this capability (if available), but often drivers from the device manufacturer can provide it (the USB specification, specifically the descriptor data, does advertise however if the port is bus-powered or not -- but I did not do a descriptor dump to see see if this was enabled or disabled). If you're looking for a cheap USB DAC for your laptop that works with high impedance gaming headsets using separate 3.5mm jacks, and has no clearance issues with other nearby laptop ports: the DUSB352FB from DuKabel, a.k.a. "USB Audio Adapter, Gaming Headset to USB to 3.5mm Jack TRS AUX Adapter Built-in Chip USB Sound Card for Headset with Separate Plug [Metal Housing & Durable Braided]" worked great. They also make a 4-pole (i.e. TRRS-compatible) version called the DUSB351FB. Also worth noting is that the DuKabel products also use a CMedia chipset. There was extremely minimal crosstalk between output (headset) and input (microphone) with the DuKabel products (which likely can be explained due to use of the analogue jacks being on break-out wires; DuKabel should have done what UGREEN did, which is keep the jacks as close as possible to the IC and use a cable only between the IC and the USB port/plug), but hey, at least it worked!

This worked like a dream. Highly recommended. The only issue I have is the driver. It always makes the mike input the default, even though I didn't plug a mike into it. I have one on my camera.
