Adult Sized Venus Flytrap - Fly Trap - (Dionaea Muscipula) Carnivorous Plant 3 inch Pot

Such an awesome little plant and something I’ve always wanted. It arrived green and healthy and larger than I expected. It was very well packaged but I have never received a plant in this way. Assembly required. I wish it was already potted but instructions are detailed and seem to be easy to follow. There was a diagram on how to repot it which is great since I don’t have a clue. The seller provided contact information for questions or concerns which is reassuring. Although I was happy with this I will definitely use distilled water so have some ready for yours when it arrives. Minerals and chlorine in tap water can be deadly. Be sure and use it to soak the moss before planting. I also ordered some carnivorous plant food spray also from Amazon until I can get to a pet store for crickets or whatever Audrey II can eat. She will need about one bug a week. Since she will be grown indoors I will be using a full spectrum grow light for at least 6-7 hours a day kept 4 to 6 inches above her and providing darkness at night while maintaining high humidity by placing her pot on a tray pebbles with water keeping the roots above the water. I don’t think my 60+ years of gardening experience is going to help me with this little girl but with some patience and love we will fine. Hoping for a healthy and happy Audrey II. Update 5 days later. For me having to pot this plant in moss instead of potting soil even with detailed instructions was stressful since I as afraid I would harm the tiny roots but thankfully although not looking quite as robust she is still green and thriving. Today I received another fly trap from a different seller in a 2” pot with good soil that I can simply repot in potting soil suitable for a fly trap when needed which is so much better. If I purchase another flytrap I will have to know from the listing how it will be potted when I receive it. For that reason only I would not purchase from this seller again.

This plant has become my best friend! Frankie the Flytrap came packaged about a month ago in great condition-there were several traps and they were all bright green in color. The bulb was wrapped in moss, which made the initial potting much easier. It was a good size, bright green in color, tall and handsome; the traps had good girth with strong teeth. The stems were firm. The directions were clear. The initial traps have grown significantly larger, and there are plenty of baby traps sprouting from the bulb/root. I’ve fed Frankie twice! So cool! First feeding was an ant and the second was a spider. It loves rainwater and plenty of sun. Some of the traps will die. Just clip them off and the baby traps will replace them soon enough. Great buy!

I’m pretty upset about this plant because it’s expensive with shipping and so are most of the ones online. I felt the plant would have been okay if I ignored the instruction from the seller, but it had great reviews and everyone said ‘follow instructions exactly’ so I did (including reviewers who seemed to have a variety of other carnivorous plants). I unpacked the plant had distilled water ready, didn’t overwater, kept it near an air purifier and source of light for ventilation and the basics (not direct light to burn it). It basically shriveled up and is dying and I surmise it’s the potting medium which I thought would be fine. Yes, it’s a hot humid summer and it does evaporate or get taken up by the plant quickly. The water evaporates very quickly but it’s definitely not over watered either. I’ve repotted it a few times to see if height relative to soil would matter (but not too much because too much messing with it is stressful for the plant). In this setup, as recommended by the seller though, I just can’t comprehend how it would survive. The first 2 photos are of the plant currently, and I think its days are limited. The next 3 photos are a healthy Venus fly traps had last year, just to compare the potting mediums and sellers. Last year I bought a $5 Venus fly trap from trader Joe which appeared to be more of a cactus potting medium for succulents and that plant flourished and grew and needed to be repotted. The only reason I ordered this one is because I didn’t know the plants go dormant in winter so when I saw it dry out last fall 2024, I figured I’d killed it somehow and now that I know it’s just dormant, I though I shouldn’t have thrown the twig away and could have waited until spring for it to come back (like my poinsettia). So I sprung for the expensive Venus fly trap because of the reviews. I feel strongly had I put it in another medium it might have survived because this one’s seems totally dried out. But I ignored my gut and stuck to the instructions. This would make sense to me for another tropical plant like an orchid but I don’t think this fly trap was getting the moisture needed in this setup. I was hoping it would eat some fruit flies and after all the instructions most the traps have died anyway. I either received a faulty plant or this setup doesn’t work for the environment. I tried putting it in humid spots like a bathroom window with indirect light, I tried a grow light, basically everything except for a change in the potting medium. Terribly disappointed. Don’t buy this, it’s more work than a cheaper version from the grocery store. For $5 I had a healthy beautiful plant last year in a cactus potting medium and it flourished. I fed it a few live Asian beetles, but this plant isn’t healthy enough to feed any critters to.

It’s extremely evident that the seller truly cares about the plants they sell. I was expecting my fly trap to be dead upon arrival, as my area is experiencing extreme weather conditions with temps dropping into the -30s with wind chills. This was NOT the case. My plants arrived perfectly healthy, wrapped in plastic with the root ball wrapped in a moist paper towel. There was also a heat pack (think of something similar to a hand warmer) that helped keep my plant alive. Also included with the package was the pot, moss, and 2 pages front and back of detailed instructions not only on how to set up a Venus fly trap- but also other important information on them as well. 2 days after planting, my VFT’s traps began opening. To my astonishment, it appears one already had a bug in it. That’s right. The seller even went as far as feeding the plant before shipping it. I absolutely would do business with this seller again and admire the care they put into their product!

The plane arrived well packaged, wrapped in moss and papertowel and the stems were in plastic. When I took it out of the box one of the stems was broken off. A few of them were brownish/black. 2 turned black and shriveled up the next day. I followed all instructions exactly as instructed on the pamphlet. I think out of all I have maybe 3 that may survive. I was so excited. I did reach out to customer service and I'm still awaiting a reply Update: So far still no reply from the seller. My plant has one trap that I think is actually alive. It had a very small trap and it's gotten bigger but the others don't seem to be active as I watched an ant run around for 5 minutes and then finally escape Another update: I have 3 new traps! They are standing and not hanging like the ones I received. Also still never got a response from the seller

This is a very small plant, but with several fly traps. My husband & I are terrible with plants so it's probably better for someone who has a green thumb. The Venus fly trap is a fenicky plant. The specific instructions are helpful. Make sure you have some distilled water before your plant arrives. I ordered this about a week before my son's birthday, but really couldn't set it up until his birthday so that my son couldn't see it, plus I wanted my son to be able to help me. It's wrapped in a wet paper towel & starts to dry out quickly once unwrapped. The instructions are very specific on how to plant it in the provided moss & how high to have the water level. I found that it dries up about every 3 days & I wasn't very good at remembering to water it before it dried up. The fly traps dry up & turn black easily when this happens, but it kept trying to grow new ones. If we remembered to water it appropriatly then the bowl we placed it in (it doesn't come with a bowl) would start to have a slight film. Very neat & interesting plant, but we just aren't the people to try to grow many plants especially ones that are so particular.
