Dimensions Needlepoint Hugging Penguins Personalized Christmas Stocking Kit, Printed 12 Mesh Canvas, 16''

This was my first needlepoint and the directions were easy to follow. It turned out super cute for my daughter's Christmas stocking. I have done small cross stitch projects in the past and I was pleasantly surprised how quickly this came together. Don't get me wrong, it does take a long time and I wouldn't expect to finish it a week before Christmas, but it is totally worth the effort.The only part I didn't like is the felt backing. I chose to use some quilted fabric from the craft store because felt just seemed like a cheap finish after all that effort. With that said, I still give it five stars because it turned out great and I will be purchasing another dimensions stocking to make for my second daughter.

I almost did not purchase this rather expensive kit, but now I am so glad I did, because it is so worth it! I have never purchased such a well thought out, user friendly needlepoint kit, and I have completed many! There are so many shades and hues to the yarn, but they not only provide a detailed “map” of the design on paper, they have included a strip of cardboard with one piece of yarn for each color attached to it with the name of the color indicated! Also, instead of simply providing a clump of all the yarn pieces for the user to figure out which color is which, they have separated it all out by color code and labeled as such. I’m so impressed by the level of effort they went to in order to simplify for the user! I do recommend the purchase of a stretcher frame—-makes stitching much easier and warp-free.

This is not totally what I was expecting when I purchased it, but I loved it anyways! I usually do Cross Stitch, but when my sister said she loved this design, I grabbed it, not realizing it was needlepoint! For a beginner needlepointer, I found this kit really easy to follow and the design is absolutely adorable! While it is a bit strange for me to use 12 threads at a time or wool thread, I found this kit to be really quick and easy to complete. The penguins are precious and the snowflake pattern behind is very easy to do. It took a few tries to get the snowflake white design to look perfect, but it came out great in the end! I will definitely be doing more needlepoint in the future, and I've been keeping my eye out for more patterns like this!

So despite the mixed reviews, this is the one my kid wanted. I too, hated the wool yarn, so I went and got floss. Here’s my numbers if you want to use them: 817, 350,816, 742,518,3761,3753,741,721,744,453,3,535,648,3799+844, Ecru. Happy stitching!Edit: updated with a picture. I think I ended up changing some of the face colors. I think I used 3 and 4 in the greys. It’s a lot of color changes close up, but far away it works great. Also, this is the second one of these I’ve done- it’s better to needlepoint the name in than go over it on top of the stitches. There’s a bunch of generators online you can enter your name info and it will give you the pattern for the letters. It’s easier this way IMO. This one looks much nicer than my other one.

The stocking is so cute! I had never done needlepoint before, and it took me about 100 hrs to complete this, but I was very proud of the result. An excellent kit - everything is fantastically detailed, but not so detailed as to make the job impossible to complete for a beginner, yet detailed enough to have a very convincing stocking. Absolutely beautiful, and a lot of fun to make. My boyfriend was blown away by the christmas present!

I love this kit - it is a cute pattern and the kit is easy to use and understand. However, I've never done needlepoint before and this kit is overwhelming for a beginner. While the stocking is coming out great and everything is easy to understand, it is a steep learning curve if you've never done needlepoint before. Start small and work your way up to this one!

The stocking is very cute when finished. But it is difficult to work with because the coloring chart that is printed on the canvas the colors are too similar in color. Making it very difficult to see when to switch colors. Therefore, it takes a lot of concentration, a lot of lighting, and definitely takes longer than it should to make because one has to be so careful.
