Battery Drain Flaw
Overall, great product with one major flaw. I have used this unit for 3 weeks and have experienced the following: It turns itself on for no apparent reason and drains the battery. If you are a frequent business traveler, this is a nightmare! I have been using PDA's for many years. This unit has great features, but this flaw is a big concern. HP says to hard re-set the unit. This requires you to re-load all of your settings and programs. Well, when you prefer to use this unit on the road instead of your laptop, you are out of luck. HP - Please fix this issue! Than I would rate it a "5" star unit.

Too many issues
I purchased this device because I was impressed with the processor speed, memory, and its features. I had this device for 11 days when I decided to return it. If you choose to encrypt all your data, it can take awhile for it to be ready to use after turning it on. You can use it but some of your data may not be available yet. This was something that became a pain when I needed it right away. I had difficulty beaming data from my Palm Vx (I've NEVER had any issues with it) to the iPAQ 50% of the time, sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't. It was not a data compatibility issue. As mentioned in another user's review, it will turn itself on to encrypt your data and will not turn itself off afterwards (I'm not sure if it will turn itself off after so long if you specify for it to do so to save your battery). I don't understand why it was programmed this way, it doesn't make much sense. The screen became unresponsive to the touch TWICE. The buttons worked, however. I had to perform a soft reset to resolve the issue. HP informed me the first time that it was a software issue, stating that I probably had too many programs running at the same time. I had the same number of programs running as I normally do. The second time my screen became unresponsive I had just turned the device on and hadn't even opened any of the programs yet. I was tired of contacting HP about the problems I encountered with the device so decided to return it. When I returned it to the retail store I purchased it from, the customer service representative told me he had already did 3 returns for that same model that day! In the end I decided to stick with another Palm device.

Good performance; some annoyances.....
This PDA was my migration to Windows Mobile after 4-5 PDA's based on the Palm O/S....Overall I think this is an excellent product. I love the 'Today' screen that basically can hold the most important information I want - weather, time, schedule, etc. - all on the opening screen. I added 1 Gb of Flash Memory - nice way for me to hold pictures, music, etc. Voice recorder is also very useful. The idea of the fingerprint reader is cool, but I cannot say I use it or that it was a selling point. I have heard it works very well. The screen resolution is great for pictures of my kids, etc. - some people have complained about this, but I have certainly been happy. The unit fits well into my hand, and is not heavy at all. This is totally subjective, but in my opinion it is very good in both categories.I do not use this for email, but I DO use it with my calendar, to-do, etc. from Lotus Notes (we don't use Outlook at work). The system works great with IBM's EasySync Pro. No complaints there. On the down side, there are a few annoyances. The first is that it occassionally turns on for no apparent reason, running down the battery and waking me in the middle of the night if I happen to leave it face up and near my bed (I am a "light sensitive" sleeper). I tried working with HP tech support, but every time I contacted them the immediate suggestion was a hard reset, forcing me to reload everything I have put onto it. I think this is a lame solution. If you search online, you will see this is an annoyance to many, many people - I'd expect HP to be able to address it better than "hard reset". I tried all the quick fixes I have read elsewhere, but it is still a problem. Not good if you are a frequent business traveler.I am forced to soft reset the system occassionally, usually after playing music or using the browser. Not a big deal, but still annoying.Final annoyance is the screen - I forgot to get the plastic screen covers with my initial order, and in the two weeks between using the system and when the covers arrived, the screen was all scrapped up! I don't press hard - i think it is a pretty weak screen that should be more durable than it is.Overall, I like the system and would recommend it. But I would also recommend HP fix some of these little bugs if it hopes to keep getting $500+ for them.
