Robbins & Cotran Pathologic Basis of Disease, Seventh Edition

The standard.
I don't have much to add that others haven't already mentioned. This book is outstanding, and Robbins and Cotran Review of Pathology, Second Edition is absolutely essential as well. There is room for improvement, though. On many occasions, the clinical presentation of diseases reads more like a list and could really use some explanation as to why these symptoms occur. It makes for less memorizing and more understanding. Also, the authors can be quite verbose on a particular pathogenesis when a simple diagram would be easier to understand and more efficient. Finally, the chapter outline at the beginning of each chapter could use some page numbers that tell you exactly where to find specific information within the chapter. Some of these chapters are nearly 100 pages long with 20 different topics, and I can't understand how none of the editors thought that page numbers in the chapter outline would be a good idea. Other than those minor complaints, this book is absolutely top notch.

Editorial Responsibility...Irresponsible
It's an excellent read and user friendly with lots of visuals. The book is however quite thick and the target audience many. However, I do believe that perhaps graphics on how to remember infectious diseases for example...the first chapter I picked up to read...would be a plus....a chart on how to rule out a diagnosis perhaps would also be an added plus. The issue in America I'm soo prethee and mareos is rather the faint issue of misdiagnosis and that is ubiquitous and not really faint statistically speaking. So the book is great. Our time with students and as students is rather limited and perhaps suggestions on graphics or vendiagrams even if it's one example per chapter is great. Otherwise we are consumed by time instead of consuming time. In an effort to be responsible to medicine and people and the sciences we must report and document responsible and it must pass rigourous standards...one mistake and your really not a credible source...this is all old news with editorials desperate to publish and print their media on US territory without thinking about humanity first, filling up the pages with words and being irresponsible at the same time....not sure what happened but world medical history must articulate with local medical history or it's really invalidated or the science editors invalidated the topic before print... Once, you smell irresponsibility...and the fish and pains reaks of old fish...we know the author had lots of helps in politics and governance to print politically...but that's my interpretation of years or handed down knowledge and oral history that does target errors in print...don't believe everything! Stick to facts from your childhood and elementary medicine and help yourself...but if you'd like to help others...we don't like errors in print...like other countries don't have English written media nor military bases etc...all willing and able to practice but nonetrained and how best to train the mash. Does the editor have a PHD in the sciences? How fast can he type and process at the same time...and in the sciences we must have a lot of editors....with PHDs that are responsible first to humanit and not their political nor religious affiliation.

HEAVY text and worth every ounce
I bought a cheap older patho book last summer to brush up on patho - got this text in the fall when classes started. This text is miles ahead of the other and was extremely helpful in understanding detail in depth to fill in the blanks from lecture. I was thinking recently, that I would look up and and read in this text every condition I encounter in practice for a long while to put things in context. This text is so great I think this exercise will make me a much better NP.Only thing that would improve this text would be handheld version!

Pathology. Period.
This is a great book (series of books). I bought this for pathology along with the pocket guide, review of pathology, and atlas. All of the books correlate together well as long as you have the most current editions. They all bring something great to the table. This bog book is amazing. The text is clear and there are great pictures and it is a great pathology book for medical students. I would imagine it would serve excellently in any other health care discipline too. I highly recommend this book and the other mentioned books too.

Great reference book
This book is a plethora of information for every disease one might encounter practicing medicine. Layout is a simple with a pragmatic approach but it is more of a reference than a sit-down read due to 1,500 pages. Purchased in fall of 2011, I've only just finished studying it 14 months later. This treatise should be on your nightstand. Buy it. Read it. Use it.

shipping
the book is great, really it is just what i needed. about the shipping however, it arrived much earlier than expected which is good, but, the spine of the book was quite damaged because the box it was packed into was too big for it and i guess it kept sliding around and getting bumped. This is an expensive book and i think that the packaging should at least ensure it arrives to the owner in mint condition.

A basic
What can I say....it's a must and a basic. I bought this one recently because it's way cheaper than the 8th edition and on top of that also basically the same besides i knew the 9th was coming out and it just did. Getting the 9th edition soon.

great book!
I absolutely LOVE this book! I know some people are intimidated by the sheer size/thickness of it, but it really is an excellently written book. Detailed yes, but very easy to read. If you're still scared of the text, the pictures alone are reason enough to buy it. Waaaay better than any pathology board review book in my opinion.

Excellent reference
This provides a deep understanding of various pathological conditions. I purchased it as a reference book, and it seems great, even though it is an older edition.

Das ist medizinische Pathologie
Deswegen studiert man Medizin.
