Worth the Price with 1 small improvement.
I recently purchased this letter opener after purchasing one of the smaller Japanese Samurai letter openers. I must say, I much prefer this letter opener because it is much larger and fits my hand very well and thus gives me greater control when opening letters of any size. The smaller one I was using my fingers to hold it and it did not perform well because I could not really grip the small handle well. The S-237BK does fit my hand nicely. The blade is Stainless and isn't completely dull but there is room for improvement. I own several blade sharpeners. One of my favorites is the Smith hand held sharpener that you can purchase through Amazon and if you don’t have a sharpener, then I would recommend adding one when you order the S-237BK. It took little time and a small effort to put a sharper edge on the opener. I did not try to use the opener before I put the edge on but after a few strokes with the Smith sharpener I had a keener edge and now it opens the letters with very little effort. I highly recommend the BladesUSA S-237BK Samurai Sword Letter Opener. When paired with the Smith’s JIFF-S 10-Sec Knife & Scissors Sharpener or the Smith’s 50185 Jiffy-Pro Handheld Sharpener - 2-Stage Sharpening, I own both, I believe you too will be satisfied with this letter opener. The aesthetics and build of this opener is very appealing since it is in the realm of Unique and looks cool. It also works as good as it looks. I did not use the supplied stand but with the stand, it becomes a very fine display. I don't believe you will be disappointed in choosing this letter opener, with one small improvement it becomes excellent. As a side note, the sharpening blades on the Smith can be replaced by contacting the company. If Amazon will allow, this is the information you would need to replace the sharpening parts when contacting the company: Smith's Sharpener replacement Blades: Course: C12338 Precision Ground Carbide Replacement Blades - Square Rod Ceramic Serrated Knives: 50038 Fine Ceramic Replacement Stones - Short Fine: C11562 Extra-Fine Ceramic Replacement Stones - Square Rod

5 stars! Great for gift or personal use.
Very nice looking Katana (mail opener). Blade is not sharp per se, in the sense of cutting you, but is plenty sharp to open letters. I haven't tried, but my guess is it could cut through boxing tape? The only concern I had was how tough it was to initially pull out of Saya (blade case). I thought it might have been glued in by accident, it was so tight. I was worried I was gong to break it when I was pulling to open it. Needless to say, by the pictures, it opened, and now is easy to slide in and out of Saya. Very sturdy and great value for the money spent.

A great looking small tanto Samurai letter opener and stand.
As someone who has been interested in anything to do with the martial arts and weapons for more than 7 decades, I am always interested in unique and unusual items related to those topics. When I saw this product (Master Cutlery Inc. Samurai Tanto sword letter opener, 9.5 inches, stainless steel, red cord wrapped handle, with display stand) on Amazon I decided to purchase it. As always the delivery was quick and efficient. I just love this miniature Samurai Tanto sword letter opener set and it looks great on my desk. Rating: 4 Stars. Joseph J. Great for the price
I got this as a semi-joke gift for my husband after he had been playing Ghost of Tsushima and taking about how much he'd like a real samurai sword from Japan. Since I can't afford to drop a thousand bucks on that, I decided to go for a letter opener to go with our little Game of Thrones sword letter opener that we have. We both were amazed by the quality for the price and he absolutely loved it. It is just barely sharp enough to open letters though I think this will become more a decor piece for us, as it is really too large to be a letter opener. Definitely a cool little piece to have on our bookshelf of nerdy stuff. Very happy with the purchase.

Beautiful Tanto Sword, but Stand Mold Infested
Beautiful sword, but I got a stand infested with mold with my order, this is the only reason why this review isn’t 5 stars. The craftsmanship, weight and size of this sword are perfect for display, however the presentation and packaging needs some improvement. I’m on the fence about keeping it due to the stand situation though.

Slay your junk mail like an office samurai
Full points on the coolness factor, the blade even makes a satisfying "click" sound when you sheath it. Visually-wise, it looks like a katana shrunken in half all while maintaining similar proportions to the real thing. Functionally-wise however, it's still too big. In a form vs function debate, this would be more of a display piece that can also double as a letter opener. That being said, if you're here, you know what you're getting this for. It's worth mentioning that the katana arrived completely blunt and couldn't cut through paper at first. This can be remediated with a whetting stone or some hand files, but be aware it takes a moment of sharpening before it can be usable as a letter opener. I gave mine just enough of a cutting edge so as to not damage the finish. The braided cord also arrived untied on mine and I had to spend a few minutes on the internet finding out how to tie a decent-looking minimized sageo knot.

This letter opener is very nice. I saw it & just thought it would look good on my desk. The stand is very nice. Holds it perfectly. Looks great. I haven't actually opened a letter yet. Its there waiting. It was worth my money. 👍 As a gift I would like it. Wht man doesn't like a sword on his desk to open letters. & even ladies would like it. Its well built from my inspection after its arrival. Stand needed to be cleaned. It was losing some of its coating. A quick clean with a cloth & its looking perfect. I'm happy with my purchase. 5⭐ Only thing bad would be blade is a lil scratched. But its ok. Thx u Amazon. BladesUSA very nice work. 5⭐

The guard and pommel are made of hard plastic but it have pretty good design which makes it "okay", and the locket and chape on the scabbard are made of metal which is great cos it makes it a little bit heavy. The blade is well made, it's straight, it's light, and it's a bit sharp enough to cut. So overall, for me it's a good little sword.
