DO DAILY: Flip Filter Upside Down, Empty Water, and Run HIGH with 2 Hour Timer (3 lights)
Make sure that if it's sitting unused every day to empty the water, flip the filter upside down so the water distributes throughout the filter, and run the evaporator on high for the 2 hour automatic turn off. You may need to flip again and do another 2 hours sometimes. This is important so that the filter COMPLETELY dries out so as not to grow mold which ours did very quickly. Even with doing this regimen, maybe weekly or biweekly you should also soak the filter or spray it with hydrogen peroxide for about 20 minutes and then run it to dry it out to make sure nothing is growing on it, so you won't get sick from something that should keep you healthy. This type of humidifier is not only energy efficient, but it's highly effective compared to the "steaming" looking humidifiers. Look up "Technology Connections Humidifier" on youtube for more studying to make up your own mind.

Nice quiet little humidifier with no white dust
Additional note: We found a replacement filter when the original was no longer available. See the Extended Life brand photo shown here. It was 3 inches too long so we cut it to fit into the frame. Works perfectly. Only $10.49 at my local hardware store.Very nice bedroom humidifier. We could not figure out how to turn it on until we realized we had the lid upside down, it goes magnet side down and will not start until the lid is on correctly. It is easy to fill with a pitcher or jug. We have well water so could either used distilled water or replace the filter more often. The filter on Amazon is about $19.99. I don’t know yet how often it will need to be replaced. Before this, we had a Cool Mist humidifier which we threw away. It produced white dust all over our upstairs. It was a menace.

Simple but not economical
Humidifier's onstruction is simple, basically a box with fan on top, split into two chambers (intake and exhaust) by a filter. Device is easy to clean, compared to other humidifiers, and controls are self explanatory.Although it only needs 4W of power, replacement filter cost makes it very expensive to operate: manual recommends to change the filter 1 to 3 times a month and one filter is around twenty dollars. Another two negatives are:- the design makes humid air go through the fan which will accelerate it's wear- ability to humidify decreases as water level decreases

Need to update the user's manual
The user manual needs to be updated. The pictures in the manual for what buttons to push on the machine do not match the buttons on the machine. The user manual also says to replace the filter two or three times a month. I think there might be a translation problem, as at $20 a filter, we would not be able to afford to run the machine. I can only guess the user manual should have been translated to clean the filter two or three times a month. I might be able to rate the sleep mode better if I knew which button to push for sleep mode. Our machine doesn't have a little crescent moon shaped button icon.Compared to other humidifiers I've used the noise level is good. I also like the size and shape of the machine. It is also easy to pour water into.UPDATE: After using this for two months we are very happy with it. The filter can easily be cleaned and reused and we're still on the original filter. Three times a month for 30 minutes we soak it in a mix of water and cleaning vinegar which helps dissolve the minerals. We then lightly brush it with a bottle brush and switch sides and rotate it when we put it back in the holder. We started using demineralization cartridges which lets us clean the filter 3 times a month (10th, 20th, & 30th) instead of every week. The cartridge might only last a month, but it did reduce the mineral build up and two can be used. We just bought more demineralization cartridges that come with little water cleaning cartridges that can be used in a fish tank, so as they should be safe for us we're giving them a try. What were trying: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08QZ14X15/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Best for hard water
I was looking for a humidifier for my toddler’s room as well as my own room as I live in CO (notoriously dry year round). I went through several standard cool mist humidifiers and found that they were leaving a thin layer of dust everywhere. It was shockingly noticeable. More importantly, my son had a persistent cough for months that I attributed to being in daycare for the first time. Until I noticed the dust everywhere. The week I removed the old humidifier, the cough was nearly gone.Switching to an evaporative humidifier is so much better. I notice the difference in how dry the air is. Zero film. And there is so much mineral buildup on the filters after a few months I know that the switch was worth it. Definitely would recommend.

tremendous downsides
So the biggest downside to a humidifier is that it doesn't put much moisture in the air. A tremendous downside. But in order to underachieve, it does so at very loud volume. On high, you'll find the best output, which is poor, and your room will sound like an airplane hanger. On low, there's just not much evaporation. And on sleep mode, which is quiet (I'll give it that), there is almost no humidifying at all. So yes, it's quiet in sleep mode. But you might as well have it off--because it's not doing anything. Cleaning is another mess. Because of its design, it's nearly impossible to see in to places you'll need to clean. You have to do it somewhat blind and hope you've done a good job. All in all, a very disappointing purchase and I missed the return window (as we hadn't run it yet). If you seek a good evaporative humidifier, continue on the quest--and please let us know if you find one! This isn't it.

No filter replacement
Do not buy this product, there is no filter replacement! I could use this only for one season because it needs to be changed and I cannot find any filter! This purchase is a waste of money! This is so disappointing!
