Joan Jett Review: A "Must Read" for fans of Rock & Roll. - This is a GREAT book for those interested in Joan Jett & the Runaways. The book takes you back to the roots of the group and the efforts of Joan to start a rock band. She gives many insights into the "LA" club scene & how a group of teenage girls changed Rock & Roll. Joan gives an honest account of the of her efforts to form the group and what it took to keep them together. After the Runaways break up in 1978, she takes you into to her world where she was selling her albums out of a back of a car and was rejected by almost every record company. While reading this book, you really get to know the author. She is extremely talented but very humble at the same time. You sense that she REALLY cares about her fans and she always stays true to her music. I respect her because no matter how bad things got, she never potrayed herself as a victim. Of special interest is her relationship with Cherie Currie. With the release of the "Runaways" movie, this book, along with Cherie's "NEON ANGEL" gives a rich history of music in the 70"s & 80"s. Added to the story, there are many great photos of Joan & friends from the 70"s to the present. This is definitely a book that any fan would want to have in their collection. A big "thank you" to Joan for sharing her world with us! Review: Now a Joan Jett Fan :) - Of course most people have heard of the legendary artist Joan Jett, but, seldom actually follow her and her career. I recently became a fan of hers within literally the past month and in my nature, I usually research everything under the sun about my new-found love. Joan Jett was no different. Now, with the book, I found out that like many other diehard fans, I too love her and her music. This in-depth text explains her early beginnings when her parents gave her a guitar for Christmas when she was 13-years old to her beginnings with The Runaways, all the way through to her life in and out of the scene of Rock and Roll, eventually meeting with her lifelong friend and mentor, Kenny Laguna, to her up-to-date scene in recent history, the film The Runaways (2010) starring Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning. I'd recommend this book to anybody who has an interest in Jett, her career, or simply for the historical value.

The Utimate Joan Jett Book - Covers Joan Jett From Her Childhood Through Her Recent 2010 Releases!!!
This is an excellent book, written in autobiography style. It is full of qoutes by Joan Jett. This book is very well illustrated, it's full of photos of Joan & others. This book gives the reader insights of how much Joan loves rock & roll. Also, it contains insights into Joan's creative processes in both her personal life & her professional life. It covers her career with the "Runaways", and also with the "Blackhearts. I have been fortunate, because I have seen Joan perform with the "Blackhearts", up close & personal. Anyway, this is a great book, and I highly recommend it. It does cover the 2010 release of the movie "The Runaways", and the "2010 release of her 2nd Greatest Hits Album". Thanks!!!

An inside look that leaves a nice touch of mystery.
This lovingly packaged autobiography/photo-essay combines a wealth of rare photos (emphasizing Joan's early days, extending through her 1980's chart-hits peak and 1990's "Riot Grrl" revival) with short, sharp bursts of commentary, as well as recollections from special guests Kathleen Hanna, Kenny Laguna, and others. Joan's writing wisely leaves much to the imagination, while managing to be revealing and disarmingly personable. Don't purchase this book expecting a juicy rock n' roll confessional: "Joan Jett" keeps it tabloid-trash free, while focusing on Joan's earliest (and enduring) personal passions and her closely-held beliefs on life, music, and the entertainment industry. Think of it as a high-fashion scrapbook memoir of one of rock's uniquely (and often unintentionally) influential figures - who incidentally happens to be a woman.

Fantastic Photobook - Buy it for that - but text is a let-down
It seems I have been waiting forever for a Joan Jett book to come out. This book is fantastically full of great photos. I definitely recommend it and I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again. Besides the great photos, there is also text in this book and it's exciting to finally read about Joan in a nice hardcover book rather than a magazine article. But it's a tease. The problem is that there's not much text, not much biography or writing about music in here and I was very let-down after reading what the author wrote in the back, about how much info he has about Joan - that he didn't put in the book. Here's what he wrote: "...I reviewed three decades of printed and taped interviews with Joan, which was a dizzying treat. I then conducted eight hours of taped conversations with Joan and combined the two..." What?! And this small amount of text is all we get? It's such a tease. I'm guessing they didn't have enough time before the Runaways movie release. I hope there will be a second volume coming someday in the future.

joan jett takes a beautiful picture...
this is a very nice book on joan. the biography aspect is a little short, but it is filled with interesting anecdotal details. however, i think most people who would buy this are already quite familiar with the runaways and joan in general. what it misses in biographical depth it more than makes up for with the awesome photos. the beautiful photography is what really holds this book together. if you didn't think joan jett was beautiful before, you will after seeing the photos. highly recommended.
