How is the difficultly compare to the tamiya or academy 1/35 tank models? such as m1a2 and k2

The Zvezda kits are about the same level as a Tamiya kit. Having said that. The Tamiya M-41, JS-3 or King Tiger kits are a little more simple. Which is OK with me. The Zvezda kits are great. The Dragon kits have become so complex and with SO many parts it has taken the fun out of building tank models. This view is shared by other modelers beside myself. By K2 I assume you mean the KV-2. I just got that kit and I am looking forward to building that one. But never a Dragon kit. The T-90 will be fun too. The T-90 is a very detailed REAL tank! So the model will reflect that. Remember there are You Tube videos to assist you in building the T-90. I will buy more Zvezda kits.

What colors are needed to paint it?

there are a few schemes to paint a T-90. Parade color os green. They have the 3-tone desert scheme, which consist of different shades of brown. Another 3-tone includes green, brown and cream color. For more info visit a website for T-90 and you would see all poctures of different schemes. HTH

What color is the starting plastic?

Sorry for the late response. The model kit comes in a LIGHT GRAY color. Hope this helps!!
