I love this story. I used it to teach Pioneer Days with my 3rd grade students. As a matter of fact Elvira Woodruff dedicated the book to me Susan Williams of Bangor and another teacher from Florida. That makes it very special to me.However, I wanted the hardcover version and it wasn't available on Amazon. Is it available anywhere?

Got these books for my son who is obsessed with history. He enjoyed reading from the point of view of a boy his owns age.

My daughter (age 10) came to appreciate this author after reading one of her books with her gifted class. When she's read it in the evenings I found myself entertained also. So, we purchased 2 other books by Elvira Woodruff, including this one, to read together.

This arrived as expected! It will be used in my classroom.

My 10 year old just read this book. It was a great book for him to read about a boy close to his age. Levi demonstrated courage, loyalty, and bravery. He enjoyed it! I highly recommend this book. It also complimented his recent tests on the Oregon Trail.

We recently read this as an adjunct to an Oregon Trail unit. Most of the fourth grade students could relate to what was going on in the story, especially the relationships that parents and children have. An excellent tool to "hook the learner" and keep them interested. I would recommend this to teachers and students. It convinced me that I need to visit the real Oregon Trail before I teach this again!!
