I tried the setup multiple times and could not get the device connected to the Wifi (via Samsung S7). I intend to return it. Tech support tried to be helpful, so will give them credit for that. Apparently, the leak detector does not work unless it is connected to Wifi. At least if it worked as a stand alone device that made a siren sound when detecting water, it would be of some use.

Easy setup and does exactly what it is supposed to do
My Roost Smart Water and Freeze Detector arrived today. It was well packaged and easy to set up using the Roost app. I tested it out on my countertop with a small bit of water and it did exactly what it was supposed do. Within 20 seconds my phone was alerting me to a potential water leak. I also have the Roost battery in my smoke detectors and I'm a big fan of the company. I would recommend the new leak detector to anyone concerned about a water leak when they are away from their home.Update 3/19/17 - I've had my Roost Water and Freeze Detector now for a bit more than a week. I received an email from Roost notifying me that "Leak Detector has not checked in". I initially reset it and put it back down in the floor, but received the same email again in a few days. This time I responded to the email and immediately received a note back from Roost to help me work through the issue. Ultimately, it turns out that I have a WiFi dead spot behind my washing machine. After moving the Roost to the side of the washing machine, all is well. Kim at Roost followed up with me several times to confirm that everything is now working as it should. She was able to confirm this by monitoring my specific Roost on their servers for several days. I rarely get that kind of customer service. Another positive for buying from Roost in my book.

Avoid this product.
Won’t connect to wifi, despite two methods available. Support is nonexistent. Can’t say how well it detects water, because it never did connect to the wifi, but another reviewer wisely noted that if the device did get wet, it would not work.

Works Great! Tech Support Was A Delight
Update 3-16-17Spoke with customer support and the issue was resolved quickly. Remember to remove your phone case during set-up as the case interferes with the audible tone needed for the phone and Roost to communcate.Original Post:Device Won't Connect To The Cloud. I followed instructions to the letter! If I don't receive help from Roost within 24 hours I will return. Not happy!

Mixed feelings about this item
I had received two of these devices through my homeowners insurance company on a pilot program.Setup is cumbersome as it took myself multiple tries to get it to connect to my WiFi.I have them setup in two completely different areas of our home\property. One is in the basement next to the boiler maybe 10 feet from a WiFi signal. The second is located in a shipping container that is my office in which I have a WiFi router in the same area about 6 feet away from the sensor. The device that is near the boiler has not failed to report once a day. The one in the shipping container has glitched at least three time and failed to report for two day each time. which I received an email telling me as such.PlusThe concept in being able to detect water and supply temperature and humidity.Able to set the upper and lower thresholds of the temperature and humidity. You can see a running graph on the temp and humidity.ConsReports only once a day and you can't change the setting. Can't request the current status. This is a biggie to me.In short if it wasn't free I would not have them. I am sure I could create a better one using Arduino and a couple sensors to report and able to check the current status when I want to.

Roost is either incompetent or just shady
I did not purchase this from Amazon, but I know many people come here to see reviews, so I thought I would share.I purchased this water detector and tried to install it unsuccessfully. I work in IT and have decades of experience with troubleshooting things like this, so it's not a user issue. When I contacted support, they told me this..."Thanks for letting us know, this certainly helps to explain the problems you are experiencing with setup. This Roost device was likely distributed before 2022, which means it was not online when Roost changed cloud providers in late 2021. This results in the 6 beep error you are experiencing during setup, as the device has lost its ability to connect to the internet due to its inability to connect to our current cloud platform. Typically in these circumstances, we recommend disposing of the detector as you see fit."If a product like this is unusable after less than 3 years, that is either VERY poor product management or planned obsolescence. Either should be a warning about any of their products. You've been warned.
