These are great. I wanted to grow some mushroom mycelium on agar but didn't want to waste a bunch of plastic petri dishes. The glass for these is super thick and I've grown beautiful mycelium with no contamination.

I had asked my 15 year old grandson what he needed or wanted for Christmas. He said he will be doing a big science experiment after the first of the year and could use some petri dishes. So I went searching online and found these, ordered them and sent them to my grandson for Christmas. I had looked at plastic ones and could get 10 for the price of these 5 but as these 5 were glass, I thought they would be better for his experiment and possibly safer. My grandson was thrilled to receive them. Not sure how his experiment worked yet.

The dishes themselves work great, I use them to let alcohol evaporate from reclaim so the fact that they don't perfectly seal is a plus for me, however if you're looking to keep all contaminates out for a science experiment then these might not be good enough unless you put clay around the lip as a seal.Now the reason I knocked a star off is the way the seller packaged them, I bought mine from Ronyes Lifescience (not sure if there are other sellers or not for this listing) and they were shipped in small individual boxes with tissue paper in them, I think originally they were shipped within another smaller box but it was torn up pretty bad and definitely wasn't taped shut in any way, anyways they were shipped in a padded envelope instead of a box with padding so one of the lids broke, I'm honestly really surprised that's all that broke with how bad the shipping conditions were, but I don't doubt others have gotten much more unlucky.If more than just one lid broke it would've been 2 or 3 stars but I got lucky so 4 stars it is, your experience will definitely vary though. Also please excuse the dirty plate in the picture, I needed something disposable to open the box on so I didn't get glass everywhere cause it was shattered into a lot of small pieces.If the seller reads this I would suggest bubble wrap instead of tissue paper and to ship in a box instead of a padded envelope, also tape the boxes that they're in closed instead of just folding them.

Great value. Was originally looking for glass containers to place in my shrimp tank. All of the ones I researched were expensive or not worth the $$$. These petri dishes are great as they are thin, glass, clear and just the right size.
