Rarities
There are two ways of looking at this volume. It's either very bitty, lacking in story arcs, or it's a box of treasures. Or both. It's also a breathing space before the next major arc -Starman in space. We were told that this series would be the complete Starman and DC are as good as their word. As well as material previously reprinted in the paperback editions, we have here all the stuff that wasn't, including stories which I never saw either in their original comic book form or in the trade paperbacks. We have: the full Starman/ Captain Marvel crossover which includes the Jerry Ordway-written issues of Power of Shazam; the new Mist single issue comic, the 80-Page Special; the Batman/Hellboy/Starman two-parter drawn by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola; and a couple of others, all tailed by author James Robin's ongoing commentary on the series. If you haven't come across Starman before, check out the reviews for vol.1 then just buy the book -it's great. As I've said before, this is one of the best mainstream super-hero comics ever published.Next up, and it can't come too soon, vol.5 -the magnificent Starman in Space saga.

Contents
A hefty tome of over 400 pages, this volume of the STARMAN OMNIBUS series ( The Starman Omnibus, Vol. 1 , The Starman Omnibus, Vol. 2 , Starman Omnibus Vol. 3 , and the forthcoming Starman Omnibus Vol. 5 ) collects the following stories: STARMAN #39-46, STARMAN 80-PAGE GIANT #1, STARMAN: THE MIST #1 and BATMAN/HELLBOY/STARMAN #1-2--all written by series's creator James Robinson--and THE POWER OF SHAZAM #35-36, a two-issue tie-in written by Jerry Ordway. The bulk of the stories represented here are stand-alone issues featuring guest stars from the DCU (Captain Marvel, Mary Marvel, Bulletman, Etrigan, Batman, the Jester, and brief cameos by the Justice Society of America, the Justice League, and the Fawcett heroes) and elsewhere (Hellboy) or the ancillary STARMAN cast (Shade; the current Mist; the O'Dares; Bobo Benetti; Mikaal Tomas, the alien Starman; the Starman of 1951; Ted Knight, the Golden Age Starman; his cousin Sandra Knight, the Phantom Lady), while the arc highlights Jack Knight's maturation as a hero and his preparations to journey into outer space to seek out former Starman Will Payton. Rounding out the volume is a brief foreword by movie producer Don Murphy and an extended afterword by Robinson himself that includes his reflections on each issue collected herein. Starman
This is my all time favorite series that DC Comics ever put out. If you haven't read it, please do. It's worth every single penny.
