Honestly, not my favorite
I like Honest products- I’ve used several in the past- but this sunscreen is a miss for me. I’ve always loved Honest Company products because they offer safe, clean products at an affordable price. This tiny 1oz bottle of sunscreen for $30 simply doesn’t align with that mission. The packaging is also a big letdown. The bottle is made of hard plastic that must be squeezed to dispense the product. The product is VERY difficult to get out of that rectangular hard plastic bottle. The sticker on my bottle was crooked, which doesn’t add to the perceived quality of the product. Sunscreen is very thick, but doesn’t spread easily so the “a little goes a long way” theory doesn’t work. A decent amount of product is needed for coverage. The sunscreen leaves a white cast that takes a while to absorb. The ingredients are clean, so I can appreciate that and saves the product from a lower star rating. I suppose it gives adequate SPF protection, but I don’t bake in the sun in the Fall so it’s hard to test. For what this product is, it’s much too costly for the size, quality of packaging and application of product. Had high hopes coming from Honest, but I’ll pass on this product in the future.

Feels great, smell, not so much, bottle is eh.
“Honest Beauty Self Defense Protecting Mineral Sunscreen Fluid” is a thick lotion that’s in a small bottle that can fit in any purse or pocket. Wasn’t sure what they meant by “fluid” but it’s a white lotion and slightly on the thick side, like it retains the ice cream shape for a little bit after you dispense. It goes on very smooth and creamy, and absorption is excellent. No residue, oiliness, or stickiness. It’s smoothing to dry skin as well. It’s “unscented” but I don’t like what I smell - it’s like a lotion base/sour/medicine kind of smell, though faint and doesn’t linger. Other family members don’t mind though, and I have the sensitive nose so that’s only for some people. The bottle could use a little more flexibility. It’s hard plastic, and I’d have to store it upside down once it gets low to have it flow out more easily.

Good, Reef-Friendly Product That's Somewhat Difficult to Dispense
I love Honest Beauty products for their ingredients, especially the absence of silicone, but that doesn't matter if the product itself isn't any good. Fortunately, this mineral sunscreen for your face works well to block the sun's rays without chemical sunblocks. It uses zinc oxide and titanium dioxide to mechanically block UV rays without being visible. Because it doens't contain fragrance, it takes on the scent of its ingredients, something you may or may not like. I don't mind it myself.Although the box calls this sunscreen "under protection," it's not clear what it should be used under. If used under moisturizer, for example, it probably would block the moisture from absorbing into the skin, so I apply on top of moisturizer. Most likely, it means that it should be applied under any foundation and make-up. The instructions don't say. This sunscreen comes in a small -- tiny, even -- hard plastic bottle that's difficult to squeeze. Honest Beauty needs to rethink its packaging with this, especially since I find it unlikely that I'll be able to get the entire contents out of the bottle. At the current selling price, no one will want to get only half of the product out of its bottle. This needs either a pump or a softer plastic. At the very least, the tip should be able to be unscrewed to knock out the last of it.-- Debbie Lee Wesselmann

Excellent, lightweight mineral sunscreen, but RIGID BOTTLE IS TERRIBLE, barely usable
I'm very happy with the sunscreen itself. For a mineral sunscreen, it very lightweight and doesn't make you look like a bloodless, anemic wraith. It's maybe a touch greasier than absolutely ideal, but an excellent compromise between mineral coverage and texture. And the best part is that it doesn't burn my eyes. It's expensive but so is every high end mineral sunscreen.(For the record, I would otherwise prefer chemical sunscreens because the texture is typically so much better than mineral sunscreen, but it always ends up in my eyes, even hours later, stinging like crazy. But it's challenging to find a mineral sunscreen that doesn't feel like either toothpaste or an bacon grease to apply, or doesn't give you a ghoulish, half-dead, waxen appearance.)However, the packaging is a deal-breaker--very rigid bottle with essentially a squeeze tube nozzle--imagine trying to squeeze a big Lego. So you have to shake the heck out of it to get it moving at all, and then squeeze like the dickens to get this out. If this were in a tube, I'd have it on subscribe and save and recommend it heartily. However, I would never buy it in its current packaging. So 5 stars for the sunscreen itself, but the rigid plastic bottle is a deal-breaker.

Unique sturdy bottle but difficult to dispense sunscreen
I like the unique shape of this bottle. It’s rectangular shape. It’s a really durable plastic bottle with a screwtop. The top is also very hard plastic. I will say there is absolutely no fear of this accidentally opening or leaking in my bag. It’s almost make up like in construction. That being said, I do find it difficult to squeeze and get the sunscreen out of the bottle. The two main ingredients are titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. Although there is zinc oxide in the formula it is not white and pasty. It does rub into the skin very well. It does not leave that white physical barrier that a lot of zinc oxide sunscreens usually leave. It smells more natural just like the zinc oxide or the titanium dioxide. But no fragrance has been added. There are also no PEG‘s, BHT‘s, mineral oil, chemicals, or silicones in the sunscreen.I do like the sunscreen. I think it feels good on the skin and adds it just the slightest bit of moisture as well. It’s not greasy or sticky. The bottle is unique and extremely sturdy. It’s just a little difficult to squeeze out. The sunscreen comes in a small bottle so it’s really just for the face I would say. Also the high price tag needs to be taken into account for such a small bottle.
