Asperger's Rules!: How to Make Sense of School and Friends

Excellent for kids - you need this book
I got this from my local library first for my 8 1/2 year old, who has just gotten a diagnosis this year. She loved it, so I ordered a copy for her to write in. It has been immensely helpful right away. She understands it very well and is able to use the tips suggested for making adjustments in everyday life. It's also helping her understand how her own brain works, and she's able to articulate what's going on in her head for the first time, in some cases. She loves it, and it makes all of our lives a little easier. You should have this book.

So helpful
My son is in those awkward tween years. We knew he had social deficits, but until we worked through this book together, I had no concept of the specific areas that challenged him. There are so many small subtle things that are "automatic" to me, that I would never think to teach him. This book helped us to identify these things. It is written in plain English & easy to understand. I like how it was interactive....more like a workbook format - reading, checking your learning & planning how to apply these skills to your life. I highly recommend, for any parent of a child with social delays / difficulties.

Great for Tweens and Teens
I have been looking for a "self help" book for my 10 year old son. He has Asperger's and struggles with social skills - reading social cues, making friends, etc... This book is written at the perfect level. It includes lists of reminders and is written with humor and understanding. I even bought a copy for his teacher so she could use some of the techniques too!

Easy to Follow, humorous notes
Well, I purchased a copy of this book a couple weeks ago, and spent an hour or so looking it over. The whole book is written in an approachable manner. Everything is broken down into small steps, bullet points (that aren't bullet-y looking), humorous side notes. There are flow charts with sample conversations for common topics (May I join the game, What are you doing this weekend) with flow charts for what to say depending on what answer you receive. There are sections that explain that how a request is presented can make a big difference in how people perceive the request and how willing they are to help you.Only problem with the book is that I sent it in for my son's special ed teacher to take a look at (he's 6th grade, she works with all the Aspie and Aspie-like kids). She liked it enough that she's put it on her list to buy for their library to work with the kids next year. So, I donated my copy of the book to school (figure they need all the help they can get, and it's a very reasonably priced book anyway), and just ordered another copy. So, I haven't had a chance to actually WORK with my son on it, but I can see where he would laugh at quite a bit of it. :)

Perfect book for my son who has Asperger's
Perfect book for my son who has Asperger's. It has helped him to see that he is not alone in his journey. I have read the book and there are tons of great advice in there for my son and also it has helped me to get a better perspective of what he is going through as he is now in middle school.

A Useful Companion for Asperger's School-Age Kids.
Very helpful to any schoolchild trying to make sense out of "being popular." I wish I had this when I was growing up. Now I see why I had so few friends. The book is very well written, age appropriate and contains exercises for reinforcing the material covered. Nice illustrations and paper.

Common Sense Information
As a grandparent of an "Aspie" who is proud of himself and feels the Aspergers Syndrome really defines him positively, I felt this book gave anyone a down-to-earth look at how to handle the little crisis that occasionally occurs. Good for teachers, parents, grandparents, as well as the child.

A must-have for an Asperger tween or teen / Pratique et parfait pour les enfants et adolescents Asperger
My asperger daughter and I loved this book. Lots examples and explaination for my Aspie daughter. We will read it again as she grows. We learn things about Asperger and how to deal with the difficulties it can bring in her everyday life. There are small exercices to help her thinking about stuff she finds hard. I would definitly recommend it to other Asperger tweens or their parents. Super useful and fun to read.

A beautiful book for its simplicity and straightforwardness
This book is beautiful in its simplicity and straightforwardness, which is so key when dealing with traits of the autism spectrum. I use this book regularly with students on the spectrum, doing the tests, completing the exercises and reading together with them, while discussing the points. Brilliant book to work together with your young person on dealing with school issues. It would help if teachers also took the time to read it, so if you are a parent of a child/teen on the spectrum, consider giving it as "present" to their teacher. It may help [if they chose to read of course].

I gave this to my special needs daughter to read ...
I gave this to my special needs daughter to read and she said she learned some helpful tools that she wish she would have known while still in school for day to day interactions with her peers and teachers.
