Sporty, useful, and versatile!
These SHOKZ OpenRun Pro bone conduction headphones are outstanding! I use them primarily for running and workouts, and they’ve exceeded my expectations. The open-ear design lets me stay fully aware of my surroundings (traffic, people, etc.) while still delivering clear, enjoyable audio with improved bass thanks to the dual drivers. They’re incredibly lightweight and comfortable for long sessions—no ear fatigue or slipping even when sweating. Battery life is excellent (I easily get 8+ hours), Bluetooth connectivity is reliable, and the build quality feels premium. Controls are intuitive, and they’re sweat-resistant as advertised. If you want safe, comfortable headphones for outdoor activities without blocking the world, these are perfect. Worth every penny! Would buy again.

Love these for cycling!
I was a little skeptical about these at first, but after talking to others and reading reviews, I decided to get these. I have to say, I really love these things! I have no problem wearing them with my bike helmet on, and they feel like I'm not wearing anything on my ears. The sound quality is much better than I expected. They are not as good as the best in-ear buds, but they are good enough and the benefits far outweigh the cons. I used to only wear one ear bud, loosely in one ear so that I could be aware of my surroundings while riding. Now I can wear these as-is and hear everything around me while listening to music in stereo at regular the same time. Very cool. These are really a game changer for me! I've also tried these in my home office on Teams and Webex calls and they work great. I can seriously wear them all day with zero discomfort. Some cons: Some people say that they can become useless at high speeds with wind noise. I have not really experienced this problem even at 20-25mph. Maybe this could be a problem on a really windy day at these speeds. I suppose it could be a problem on a long decent as well at higher speeds, but really the climb is where I need some music to get through it sometimes. Another con is if you answer your cell phone while riding (you can do that by tapping the side button) you need to stop or slow down so that both sides can hear each other. And lastly, I wish the charge lasted longer. I can't really use them all day at work and then go on a long bike ride. I do realize though, that the bone conduction technology has to use more energy than standard earbuds to achieve the same volume, so I understand this and am okay with it. (Maybe I'll get another pair some day for my home office!) Other thoughts: My wife bought the OpenFit Open-Ear model after trying these out because she prefers the individual earbuds that do not go around the back of the head. Those are awesome too with possibly slightly better sound quality. But for me I prefer these because I find it much easier to put them on my head, especially because I don't have as much hair as she does. They kind of just fall into place, with no adjustments needed.

Excellent Comfort, Quality, and Bass
As an owner of Apple AirPod Pro, Max headset, etc, I ordered these to experiment with “bone conduction” technology. So far, I’ve very impressed. Some features that intrigue me: 1. Normally something goes in your ear to restrict outside sound. When I’m working and using these for MS Teams, WebEx, etc - I may want to hear someone in the room talking to me. This new perspective on sound isolation versus allowing environmental sound (also discussed by other users to be safer when outdoors running) is a reason to add these to your sound listening tools. 2. The Bass is thumping! (Literally) against my head. This is the first pair of headphones where I’ve “had” to turn them down a bit. 3. My partner can hear the music. I’ve read other reviews where this technology isolates the sound only to the user - this is not the case. High quality music, but if you turn it up others can hear you. 4. Comfort - perfect. As you can see in my pic, the headset rests comfortably over the ear and lightly touches your cheek bone. Probably the most comfortable headset every owned. 5. Get rid of inside ear devices. The in-ear earbuds and the silicone, rubber, etc have cause me issues with excessive use during the pandemic. (My ear canal skin is now suddenly sensitive to the rubber tips… and yes, I’ve swapped out and tried other products). I had to give my apple AirPod pro set to my partner, who loves them (and I miss them). If you’re looking for something high quality that doesn’t go into your ear, this is perfect. 6. Video conferencing “look”. Visually, they’re hardly noticeable. If you’re conferencing now “at home” during the pandemic and don’t want “headphones” being broadcasted, this is a great option. (I’ll be testing more this week). 7. Bluetooth pairing. While this can be a nightmare, I’ve found this multi-pairing feature (standard on apple headphones) to be perfect. I quickly paired to my iPhone, IPad, and work iPad very easily with no issues. I’ll revise this review of this critical attribute changes. If I have trouble connecting, or staying connected… this product will be returned immediately. 8. Magnetic connection charger. Unique “one of a kind” proprietary cord. Works great, but don’t lose it. 9. The back antenna/connector does not touch your head. It sticks out behind your head. As such, you cannot use them laying down in bed. Well hidden for calls. The only thing I “feel” when wearing these is the light touch on my cheek bones. Overall, I’ll call these an amazing addition to my sound listening tools. I use apple AirPod Max for listening to Dolby Atmos movies and Spatial Audio with superb 3D sound quality. I didn’t purchase Shokz for that reason. I’ll use headphones for entertainment purposes (3D audio), but these Shokz are excellent for everything else. If you want high quality, lightweight, versatile headphones that allow others to talk to you (not you isolate them out), or hear that car coming when you’re running or biking - these are for you. If you don’t need the “thumping bass”, a lower cost model might suit you perfectly.

I didn't expect to like these as much as I do.
First the positive.. they are far more comfortable and sound better to me than in ear earbuds. It's surprising how good these sound, and how well they retain clarity and detail even at very low volume levels. I can leave them on all day with no discomfort, and they have the advantage that I can have conversations with coworkers without the need to drop out an earbud every time someone asks me a question. Sound quality is very good, although not as good as say a full coverage headphone. They go the day on a single charge, although they report 'battery medium' at about 30 minutes use so I don't fully trust them yet. They don't interfere with my reading glasses, and I can use a standard phone without the need to remove them. The neutrals.. they don't offer much in the way of controls, but the controls they do offer are simple and work well. Now the negatives.. although the list is short. I absolutely hate the magnetic charger, and this is the only reason for 4 stars instead of 5. I would have gotten something else had I realized they don't use standard type C cables. If you have a collar, the hoop around the back of your head can bump it and move them around a little. Not a big deal, but worth noting. And.. that's IT. I love these things, and unless I specifically want noise reduction of some sort, can't see myself switching back to in ear earbuds. Like ever.

4.5 Stars A quality product that tickles.
Really 4.5 Stars but because I was pleasantly surprised I rounded up to 5. I'm a believer in bone conduction technology now. Sound quality: Really good almost across the board. I wasn't expecting much for bass but it was alright. If you up the volume you might not notice the difference unless you are an audiophile. Unfortunately, by upping the volume you get the vibrating tingling sensation that you feel under your skin. Doesn't bother me, but I can see it being a problem who might be prone to vertigo if they have that kind of sensitivity in their inner ear canal. Or maybe you just don't like being tickled from in front of your ear to your upper jawbone. Weird sensations aside, if you drop the volume to where you are not feeling it under your skin, you may lose some of that low end sound. This can be improved by adjusting the resting point to right in front of your ear (if you have the right sized head to angle the headset that way). Fit for Standard: I have a big head so the conduction portion sits right in front of my ear. Good comfortable fit. Wore overnight with no pain around the ear or around where the strap sits. Doesn't even bother me if I side sleep. I also have glasses and have felt minimal to no awkwardness while using the headset. The only time it feels weird is if they slip and the earpiece on one ear rests on top of the glasses and the other side rests underneath the glasses. But nothing a quick adjustment couldn't fix for me. Battery Life: Played string instrumental covers while I slept lasted 8 hours plus. Told me the battery was still medium... whatever that means. But I never really needed to use it more for 8 hours straight. Range: Pretty good. Not the greatest but far from the worst. Connected to both laptop and Samsung Z Fold 4. With phone, no connection loss outdoors with phone in pants pocket. Indoors I can step away at least 50 ft while losing line of sight around a wall. Two walls pushes it but I have managed a somewhat stable connection if I am close to that 2nd door. Microphone: Loud and clear. I use in Teams meetings and phone calls with no issues. Honestly, I will probably still get the Aftershokz version with the extended mic in the hopes that it will reduce background noise. I work in a high traffic area so the general Shokz mic may pickup other people and background noise too easily. Uses: Used in Teams meetings, workouts, and while I sleep. The open ear is amazing because it helps with situational awareness. I work in a lab and covering both ears is just a safety issue. But I can walk around the laboratory during Teams meetings and still be aware of my surroundings. Same with the gym. Pet Peeve: I hate special or proprietary chargers. Ugh. But magnetic attachments get a mild pass. I just need to buy more cables to stash at home and work. Overall: I was going to deduct a half a star for low end loss and the proprietary charger but honestly even that is overkill considering how well this company engineered bone conduction technology and made everything else pretty high end.

Recommend!
Great sound and quality. Ive had them for over 2 yrs and they still hold their charge, sound great and I recommend to everyone I can. I like that my inner ear doesnt get irritated because these sit outside of the ear. The headband ensures these never fall off. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

Reliable Open-Ear Headphones for Long Outdoor Adventures
I've been using the OpenRun Pro from Shokz, which I bought last year specifically for a long hike up Mt. Adams, Washington—and they absolutely delivered. We started hiking at 4:00 a.m. and didn’t return to camp until around 5:00 p.m. The headphones lasted the entire day and still had about 20% battery remaining at the end. I was very impressed with the battery life; it easily handled a full, demanding day outdoors and did exactly what I needed it to do. Audio quality is solid for open-ear headphones. There isn’t much bass, but the treble is clear and well-defined. When running or hiking outside, you can clearly hear your surroundings—like people calling out as they pass you—which is a big plus for safety. That said, in louder environments with higher ambient noise, the music can become harder to hear. Comfort-wise, these were a big improvement for me. I had the original Shokz model in the past, which caused headaches and discomfort. With the OpenRun Pro, I haven’t experienced any pain or issues at all, even during long sessions. Overall, I’m very satisfied with these headphones—excellent battery life, good comfort, and reliable performance for outdoor activities.

Definitely way better than other bone conducting headphones
I've tried many many bone conducting earphones since I use my headphones all day and in ear or over ear headphones causes a lot of heat/hearing issues in long term. So far I've never seen one that I can easily listen to and not broadcast what I'm listening to outside. All others were somewhat audible from outside. Low volume level, enough to disturb your partner night time or passenger next to you while travelling. This one is as perfect as you can ever get. This really sits on the bone, does not give out audio to outside (you can barely hear it if you remove it from your ear and hold it half an inch from your ear. And even during night time, it is inaudible to my partner. Sound quality is also somehow much better than others I've tried. I'm not gonna lie, I've tried all other options because I did not want to pay this absurd price for this one. But in the long run, with me changing headphones because I was not happy with them and some others just failing/breaking down, I've spent more than the price of this one. I still think it is way too expensive for what it is, but it is without competition I guess that's why the price can be so high and they still can sell this. I've bought it in the end after all, right? So far, I could not be happier. Highly recommend it. So, as for negatives, first you really need to know that any bone conducting headphones will feel funny/tingly when you're listening to high volume music or high bass situations. So if you're listening to low frequency stuff like explosion scenes in a movie or music with high bass then you will feel a bit tingly if your volume is high. Second thing is battery life. 10 hours nowadays is too short of a runtime for headphones. My over the ear headphones can run literally days without being turned off at all, while it is still playing music. I used to not even bother to turn the music or my headphones off, I'd just leave them on my desk and come Monday, they will still be playing the music. Of course this is a tiny device with a tiny battery so 10 hours it is I guess. Just be prepared to charge it daily. Which leads us to: Third, proprietary charging cable. That really is something that always bugs me. Why oh why would companies not use standard cables? I mean I know why, it is a business model to get more money out of you and it is easier to design a product like this if you don't have to worry about the depth of a USB C connector. But still, it is annoying. you have to carry around a special cable when you're travelling just for this one. The rest of my devices, laptops, external mobile screens, writing pad, my phone, my mouse they all are charged with usb c, so I can share the adapter and cable. But now I'll have to carry this cable too. And if I forget... well no music after 10 hours. These are all the negatives so positives outweigh by a large margin. In the end, I highly recommend these if you have any hearing issues caused by heat/moisture of keeping on headphones all day, if you have hearing loss due to eardrum or if you want to ride a bicycle while still being able to hear approaching traffic or if you just plain and simple have money to burn. The length of this review should show how much I liked these. Seriously though, try to switch to bone conducting headphones even if it is a cheaper one if you have the issues that I've mentioned. It makes your life much better and keeps your hearing and ears in better condition.

Still Going Strong After 4-5 Years – My Favorite Bone-Conduction Headphones
I've been using Shokz bone-conduction headphones since they were still branded as AfterShokz Aeropex, and after roughly 4-5 years of ownership, they've proven to be one of the most durable pieces of tech I've purchased. Originally, I bought three pairs. One required warranty replacement during the first year, and another finally stopped working about a month ago. The remaining two are still functioning well today. My desk-use pair looks almost new, while my daily-use pair only shows minor cosmetic wear where the outer coating has started to peel slightly after years of use. How I Actually Use Them Unlike many reviewers, I don't use these primarily for sports. My main uses are: Daily commuting on public transit Lunch breaks and general everyday listening PC gaming sessions that often last 6+ hours and sometimes 12 hours or more on weekends Occasional music and phone calls For commuting, they do an excellent job maintaining clear audio even with city and bus noise around me. For gaming, they've honestly been fantastic. One of the biggest advantages is comfort. I don't experience the ear fatigue, pressure, or heat buildup that I get from traditional over-ear headsets. Despite being bone-conduction headphones, positional audio and directional cues such as footsteps are still easy to distinguish, and I've had no issues using them in competitive games. Battery Life Battery life has remained surprisingly consistent over the years. I haven't noticed any significant degradation, and I never find myself worrying about whether they'll last through the day. Canadian Weather I've worn them through Canadian winters, and interestingly, wearing a toque can actually improve the listening experience by holding the transducers closer to the head, making the sound feel fuller. I've also used them in light rain and light snow without issues, although I generally try not to expose electronics to bad weather longer than necessary. Warranty Experience I had to use the warranty once due to static and audio issues developing on one side of the headset. From what I remember, the process was straightforward. I explained the issue, and Shokz replaced the unit without charging shipping costs. It's been long enough that I don't remember whether they required the original headset to be returned. Comparison to Newer Models I've recently tested both the Suunto Wing and the OpenRun Pro 2. The Suunto Wing delivers impressive sound quality and is a strong competitor, especially considering its price. However, it doesn't reach the same volume levels that I've come to expect from the Aeropex/OpenRun generation. The OpenRun Pro 2 was more surprising. While the newer air-conduction technology may technically improve audio quality, I personally preferred the original listening experience. The newer design seemed to leak more sound, and the audio felt slightly more hollow to me. Even in Classic Mode, something about the tuning felt different from the Aeropex generation. Pros Exceptional long-term durability Extremely comfortable for extended wear No ear pressure or heat buildup during long sessions Reliable battery life even after years of use Great for commuting and maintaining awareness of surroundings Positive warranty experience Cons Outer coating can eventually show wear after years of heavy use Audiophiles may prefer traditional headphones for pure sound quality Newer Shokz models may not appeal to everyone who likes the original Aeropex sound profile Final Thoughts The biggest compliment I can give these headphones is that after 4-5 years of ownership and after trying newer alternatives, I still prefer them. They're comfortable, durable, reliable, and fit naturally into my daily routine. When my remaining pairs eventually give out, I'll likely buy another set.
