What's the bolt throw?

Does the lever have two states? (open/close) or is it spring based, meaning I have to hold it open in order to slide the door

It is not spring based. If you push it up it lets you open or close the door, when you push it down it locks into the hole you drill in the door and prevents it from moving.

Could this be mounted universally, that is a door going left to right or right to left? I would think so but it doesn’t hurt to ask. Thanks

I believe so. It’s been a few years since I installed this lock, but as I recall it could mount on either side.

Could this be used on a sliding door that had a dog door installed? Dog door in the tracks next to the door.

That’s what we use it for. To keep the door secure while the dog door is in place.
