Martha Washington's Choice Bedspread - Full - Antique - with String Fringe

The MARTHA WASHINGTON'S CHOICE BEDSPREAD is a classic bedspread--not a heavy coverlet or quilt, but a lightweight, decorative covering for a bed made up with sheets. I think that it's a very lovely Colonial-style example. The right side (shown in the photo) is mostly smooth, with thick, knotted tufts creating the garlands and flower-basket patterns. The wrong side is the exact opposite--mostly tufted, with smooth areas where the tufts create the patterns on the other side.Before washing, the queen-size bedspread is a little larger than my queen bed, and the fringe reaches the floor all around. From past experience with a similar spread, I expect the spread to shrink a little when washed, but not enough to cause the patterns on the top and sides to be misaligned, or to cause the fringe to fall far short of the floor.Because it's 100% cotton, the bedspread is machine washable (warm wash, tumble dry low). The queen-size spread fits in my large-capacity, top-loading washer; and I'm expecting it to shed fiber during drying. My similar 100% cotton spread (the one being replaced by this one) shed fiber with every single washing. However, it lasted for many, many years before it became thin enough to need replacing.During the summer, this bedspread over sheets will provide enough warmth for sleeping. During the winter, it only needs to be supplemented with a warm blanket or an electric blanket.

Pretty light blue color. Is big enough for my king size bed; would probably have liked it 3 inches longer on each side but I have a tall bed. Very long and you can tuck pillows under so doesn’t require shams if you don’t wish to buy them. Nice medium weight. Very pretty design. I am very pleased with this chenille.

After looking everywhere in stores for a pretty Martha Washington spread and having made a prior catalogue purchase of a "look alike" and being unhappy with the quality, I found this one. I Love It! It is quality and it is so pretty. Far prettier in person than in the picture. Have not washed it yet to determine how it will hold up. But every day I look at it, I am soooo pleased. It looks so authentic and gives simple elegance to our mahogony high panel bed. It is mid weight. I use it with an additional very light cover in winter. It is spring now, and it is just the right weight for me. My husband sometimes pulls it off of his side as it is slightly heavier than he prefers. This is an heirloom purchase that I think my kids will remember and want to keep when they are grown.

I ordered two of these in twin size in white for our little cabin in the mountains, but we decided to swap the twin beds for a queen, so I sent them back and never got to use them. (may order the queen yet)Nevertheless I thought I would write a quick review to say these spreads looked absolutely gorgeous!! I have a king Martha Washington in another brand, but the Maine Heritage Weavers spreads were far more beautiful. The candlewicking is superb! I hated to send them back :(For anyone looking for a Martha Washington spread,...give these a try. They are top notch and a feast for the eyes! Also a step back in time...:)

Love it Thrilled ! Bought a cheaper one last week returned it same day I was worried about it being short after paying all that money.Well the cheap import lasted on the bed about a minute (You usually get what you pay for ) We have a queen and it sits up HIGH on an old antique frame so we ordered the King.We were SO happy, God it looks great and feels just like our parents old spreads did, the weight fabric design everything. So comfy to it was a cool night we didn't need a blanket.We paid about 4-5 times more then the first one with the shams ( get them they are worth it ) but thats our little haven away from the world where we spend about 1/3 of our life's and even more on the weekends if possible. So why not get what you want ? Well Worth the extra money Just get a King if your worried about length . We haven't washed because it we just got it But Im confident in the quality that we will not have a problem with it Its probably something you could pass down .to your kids

I love this spread. The only problem is I ordered a size full for a full-size bed, which is what I have. I didn't take into consideration that I have the fairly thick mattress and the spread is pretty short on one side if I put it on so the sidethat shows is at the right length to the floor. I would measure your bed from the floor on one side to the floor on the other side and make sure it will fit properly. I can deal with mine the way it is. It is a very nice spread. The length is fine. Not flimsy at all.

In summer, we'd been using a depressing old white cotton damask bedspread. It had been shredding for years. We scoured the usual department stores and learned that the classic old bedspread has nearly disappeared, and has been succeeded by comforters, lumpy duvets, and--the latest--"coverlets." We needed something light, preferably white and decoratively compatible with our four-poster bed. On line we came upon bedding woven in Maine, at Bates Mill, and something called "Martha Washington's Choice Bedspread-Queen-white-with string fringe." On line, we couldn't caress the thing. But the pattern had a respectable colonial look, and during tours of Mt. Vernon, we'd noticed that the lady of the house had had a stylish eye. So we ordered one. Alas, days later Amazon advised us that they had run out of these bedspreads. They wouldn't disclose when they would get another, and assured us a refund if we reneged. Happily, a couple of weeks later, they get another. We are totally pleased with this bedspread--its suitable coverage of our queen bed, its light summer weight, the strong texture of the patterns, floral I think.

I love this bedspread. Although it does shed a little, it looks great on my bed and was worth the money. It is of good quality and I got what I paid for.
