After installing, this made the door heavy to open, too heavy for a 4 year old. How do I lighten up the open tension?

There are many different types of door closers. This closer is a size 3 closer so it is designed to fit doors that weigh between 88 and 143 pounds. That being said there are also door closers that are "Barrier Free" which are mainly designed for commercial applications. Barrier free door closers are required on buildings by the Americans With Disabilities Act and only require 5 pounds of force to open. This closer is not ADA compliant. Does this stop the wind from blowing open a door? My patio doors open outward and the wind catches them and swings them open. Heavy doors 8ft tall

Yes it is pretty strong. I found that I had to install the bolts all the way through the door to make it stronger.

You said it should only be used on 1-3/4 inch thick solid wood or hollow metal doors. It wouldn't work on a hollow interior door with a wood frame?

It will work on the interior door also.

Will this work on an outswing door. If so, will it mount on the inside or outside of the door?
