This is the third external drive I've purchased on Amazon, and the only one that actually works and really is a 'plug and play'. Unlike the first two, this one is a decent weight; there's something to it, and it feels like a quality build, whereas the others were just light plastic. There's also a compartment on the underside to store the USB and C leads, both of which connect the drive to my Windows 11 laptop with no problem.If you use Windows Media Player Legacy, you can burn CDs as in the good old days; I've easily dragged and dropped a 'burn list', and have a couple of new burnt CDs for my car. Moreover, if you change the region settings on your laptop, this drive will play Region 1 DVDs, and is lovely and quiet, but you'll need to download a DVD Player app as I did. I haven't tried to burn onto a DVD as yet, but I can't see there'd be any issues.Overall, for £16, I am over the moon. The two others I returned were twice the price and utterly useless.

Works off either USB 3, no power supply needed. Rips CDs usually at 4x but have seen it rip at up to 8x . Great product.

Nice bit of kit. Seems well made handy usb cable storage built in. Worked straight away on Windows 11 laptop.Don't bother with scratch card offer enclosed with product, suspect everyone's a winner but you just end up in a neverending request for information. Have to amend my review, second DVD Writer delivered as per scratch card win. If you can be bothered prize eventually turns up.

For the price I didn’t expect much, and hoped it would work so I could rip a few home movie dvd’s I found in my parents attack after they died a few years ago. Glad to report the drive worked perfectly with no additional software,other than the freeware for my Mac.Additionally, it’s nice to go a bit old school and listen to the hundreds of CD’s I bought back in the day. Despite music streaming services having in some cases over 100million songs. It appears most of my collection is so obscure that a good 80% of it has never found a new home on-line (1980’s Boystown/Hi-NRG before it crossed over to major labels I guess, plus maybe 150 bootlegs concerts).Being old school has its advantages and this ‘cheap as chips’ DVD/CD reader/writer does the job perfectly. I have no hestitation in recommending it.

I was very keen to be able to play DVDs on my laptop. I saw this DVD drive, liked its appearance and the promise of what it could do so ordered it with high expectations. When it arrived, I was impressed by its appearance and weight - a very nice item. Then I plugged it in to the laptop - very simple to do - only to find it would not perform the function I bought it for - play a DVD. My laptop recognised a D/DVD drive but then I kept receiving a message to insert a disc when there was already a disc in the player. I tried numerous times with the same disappointing result - insert disc! I then connected the DVD player to my desktop. Same result. The desk top recognised the attached DVD drive but kept asking me to insert a disc when I had already put one in. Very disappointing. The only positive aspect of this transaction was how easy and smooth Amazon's returns process is. I simply took the dvd player, in its original box, down to the local Post Office, showed them a QC code I had received by email on my mobile phone, the Post Office took the item and that was it. They posted it back, free of charge and I had a full refund in my bank account the next day. Thumbs down to the product but thumbs up to Amazon.

Great item, light and compact and easy to move about. Yes cable is short but no issues for me and sits nicely next to laptop

It works as expected. Seems slower than an internal CD drive for ripping, but that might just be me. However the short cable is a pain. There is no easy way to use it without a USB extension cable. I can't easily reach the USB slots at the front or the back of my mini-tower. Probably works OK for a laptop.
