A very nice pen at an affordable price.
First this is not just for gentlemen... I love a fountain pen for writing. There's just something about holding a fine pen and the flow of ink that ball point pens just cannot give. I bought this looking for a fountain pen to use on an everyday basis and have not been disappointed.Years ago I started journaling. I at some point decided to indulge and try a fountain pen to "refine" my thoughts and writing. I have never regretted that decision. The feel of a fountain pen somehow just helps get the mental process rolling. It puts me in my "writing mode" where I can write from deep inside. So after a recent move where I found my fountain pen had somehow found a new home somewhere.. I was very unhappy using ball point pens. Could not find a fountain pen in our local stores. So I resorted to Amazon. I am glad I did.I ordered this on a whim, wanting a fountain pen to get my mental writing "juices" moving again. It did not cost very much and looked nice.I was pleased when I received it. I was afraid for the price I was getting a "cheap" pen.. Upon opening I found it is not a "cheap" pen. It only took me a couple of seconds to fill the converter and set off to writing. The feel is good. It has substance. It looks nice. It writes with a very nice fine line.I will say it is nice enough to give as a gift. The leather holder, the rosewood and gold all look elegant. I have not had any problems using the pen or filling it with ink. I use a higher grade ink (Waterman) and the ink flows nicely without hesitation or skipping. I don't care what kind of fountain pen you use, you should invest in good ink. There is a VERY BIG difference in ink just as there is in pens. It is incredibly easy to fill. This is nice when you are writing and run out of ink. Again, it only takes a few seconds to fill, so no loss in train of thought. So, would I buy this again? Yes I would. I would even buy a few and give them for gifts. Along with a bottle of good ink. I plan to buy a couple of more just to keep on hand. I have since invested in a few more expensive pens, but this is my go to on a daily basis. I use this for a majority of my writing needs. So, yeah, I would recommend this pen.I might add here that customer service has been great. I have not had to contact them but they sent me an email when my pen was shipped with an "instruction sheet" on how to fill the pen. They invited me to ask any questions I had before even having the pen in hand. After I received the pen, they again contacted me to see if the pen met my expectations and inviting me to contact them with questions or concerns I might have. Haven't had any other seller go to that extent to make sure I was happy with my purchase.

It's a nice pen for the price, but some improvements are needed.
I like this pen, but the wood finish is inconsistent and I don't like the plunger mechanism. This pen also "blobbed" on the paper after I loaded it. So far it only did that once, but now I check the pen every time I use it. I'm gun shy about this, so I don't use it for important writings, which is unfortunate.I would buy this pen again if the following things were changed:1. More consistent finish, with no lighter/darker spots on the cap or the body2. The filling mechanism were made sturdier and changed from a "push-type" to a screw-type mechanism3. Better Quality Control. Even a cheap fountain pen should never blob on the page.

Teach your Grandchildren to write like Grandad for $6.
Great for teaching children and grandchildren to write with a REAL fountain pen, without sacrificing your Waterman's! My Grandfather taught all us kids, using a quill and dip well. He believed in the artistic flair of true handwriting etiquette, so I have used a fountain pen all of my life. Now, my grandchildren ask, "will you teach me to write like that"? I wondered if there were any pens around for under $100? Yes, this one is $6....! Perfect for grandchildren to learn with, wouldn't you say.......?

Broke in half in about a month.
Broke in half in about a month. Writing seemed very non-smooth. I would not recommend this product except for the nice case it came in. Exterior of pen also wore down in less than a week if used. Cap rubs off its own exterior.

Smooth writing; well-made; great value
I have been getting more involved with fountain pens and needed an attractive wood-body pen that would be a reliable writing instrument and reasonably priced. I found it with this terrific rosewood pen from Caplin. It comes with a well-engineered converter so I can fill it with any color of ink I want to try, when I want. The attractive gold-colored nib offers a uniform ink line that does not skip or railroad. I view it more as a medium nib than the stated fine nib. But it works for me. I don't typically post the pen's cap to the pen's body, and I won't with this pen. The body already has good balance and is long enough to fit comfortably in my hand. I soaked the nib and converter in an ammonia/water solution for a few minutes before using to remove any industrial residue. The company might want to consider removing the red pen holder/protector from the photo presentation, though. The item is not part of the purchase. I might be interested in buying a slip-on protector, but I don't see how to order one. Some reviewers complained that no ink was included. That is not an issue for me. I have several bottles of ink and look forward to experimenting. This pen is very well-designed and solidly built with a solid click-on feature that secures the cap to the body easily. Great value for what you get. It will be one of my daily carry pens. And a pen has to earn that rank, in my book. Don't pass this one up!
