Looks are Decieving...read the whole truth!
I must admit....I was NOT a happy camper the first time I put my weary head on this weird looking thing called a pillow! It is NOT soft. IT is NOT puffy! It looks like no other pillow you've ever seen...actually I'm not sure they should even call it a pillow! So why did I pay an expensive price for something looking so strange, you might wonder? I was totally and completely desperate! I have struggled for years to find a comfortable way to sleep. A pillow that would allow me to stop tossing and turning all night and might ease my neck stenosis night time pain. This literally is the last pillow I hadn't tried that Amazon carried....so I gambled. The first night, I threw it in the floor after about an hour, disgusted and vowed to return it the next day! It laid there beside the bed for about a week....then an amazing thing...I took the time to READ the instructions inserted I the packaging! Imagine that...reading the instructins! I read the clearly stated fact that this "system" would take some time to get use to. I read about the benefits it might have in store and I thought ok, I'll try it again. It took me about three nights to really sleep well on it; however, since then, it's been the answer I've searched for ! This pillow system is constructed for your neck curve to be in its best position. It cradles the neck area just right as your head lowers into the cavity created for it. Our heads are quite heavy actually and need proper alignment to keep our muscles from tensing and overworking . Well, this is great and I soon began to fall asleep faster and faster....but I usually turn in the night to one side or the other...so how does that work? The only side I've been able to sleep on for years is my right...if I slept on my left..it only took minutes before my neck and shoulder are extremely painful. Each side of this system is created so that your neck and shoulders stay aligned when you sleep on your side. The sides do NOT sink down from the weight of your head and therefore hold your head in alignment at the proper height. This also keeps the pressure off of your shoulder and arm. You'll notice a slight ridge of foam around the side sections. That ridge, for lack of a better term, allows your neck the same needed support with slight indention for your heavy head. You are perfectly aligned and sleep like a baby! I'm now waking in the morning realizing that I've been asleep on my left side with absolutely no shoulder or neck pain! I cannot say enough ...this pillow system has allowed me to regain a good night's sleep once again. It hasn't cured my stenosis but it certainly will allow me to put off any surgical solutions for some time. I learned a lesson here...read the instructions ...not all help is instantaneous. I highly recommend this pillow system for anyone having neck and shoulder pain that causes you to toss and turn. It is worth every penny! Now....I do hide it in the closet when I make the bed...because ...it still just looks weird ! The only tiny issue I have is this...I use a satin regular case over it...and it obviously doesn't fit well or stay on...but that is so minor I almost didn't mention. So, hey, Therapeutica...get your designers right on this...we ladies know that sleeping on your back is a good anti-aging trick..but when our faces do hit the pillow...satin is best. What about a specially designed satin cover that would kick this baby up to not only therapeutic ...but an anti-aging beauty tool as well! You'll love this pillow...give it a try and READ the in closed information! Sleepy in Texas!

LOVE it! AWESOME pillow!!!
I have sleep apnea and use an APAP machine and full mask. I've been using a CPAP contour pillow for the last couple of years, but my neck pain has become a daily issue. I used to buy a new CPAP pillow once a year when the pillow would break down and the neck pain would come back. But the last pillow I got only lasted a month before the neck pain came back worse than ever. Everyday I'd have pain and discomfort, neck would feel like it needed to be popped constantly, and it felt like something was grinding in my neck, and I'd have pain and discomfort between my shoulder blades as well. First night I tried this therapeutica pillow I immediately feel relief in my neck and between my shoulder blades. Felt the support in both my neck and in my upper back when laying on my back. And when I lay on my side my head feels supported and my shoulder that I'm laying on doesn't feel pinched anymore. If you sleep in one position (on your side) too long, your ear gristle may be a little sore, but as soon as you switch positions the discomfort goes away. I haven't had anymore pain between my shoulder blades, and the discomfort/pain in my neck has gone completely away. My neck still pops sometimes, but I'm not in constant pain like before. I've been telling everybody I know about this pillow. I think it's well worth the money, yeah it is kind of on the expensive side, but you definitely get what you paid for. Make sure you measure and get the right sized pillow, or it won't work properly. I have king sized pillow cases and there is room to spare in them. Very comfortable, the pillow works as advertised. I hope they last for years. I've been using mine for a week now and I LOVE IT!!! (I'm female, 5'9" tall, pillow size-Average adult: measurement from neck to shoulder bone is 6"). If you measure in between sizes, go with the smaller size. I didn't have any adjustment period (could be from using a contour pillow in the past).

Not For People Who Move While Sleeping; Brought New Pain.
Have you ever wanted to ask yourself "Am I lying down correctly on my 100$ pillow?" Have you wanted to wake up in more pain because you rolled off the pencil thin back support that you must remain perfectly balanced on at all times? If so, this is the perfect pillow for you! This pillow feels, at best, perfectly neutral in terms of comfort when you lie down on it correctly. It's not uncomfortable or comfy, simply letting you lie down as though you weren't using a pillow at all. The issues begin when you aren't perfectly situated on their strange contraption of a head rest, and either too much or too little of your neck is touching the neck brace. After a few minutes, you'll finally begin to realize you are off by a centimeter and will start to ache. When you finally manage to hone in on where you should be and fall asleep, the real trouble begins. I got this pillow to help me stay asleep and stay comfortable in said sleep, because I frequently roll around when sleeping poorly. This pillow decides to make that even more so an issue, because if you roll off in the night, your shoulders are in trouble. I woke up with a horrible pain in my left shoulder, the kind that I've not had with any other pillow, and it's pretty clear why. Half of my body was supported by the pencil thin back support and the other half wasn't. This pillow might work if it had been designed with any thought in mind for people who don't sleep like the dead, but it wasn't. This pillow is also severely overpriced for the quality of the memory foam used. It feels EXACTLY the same as some of the 40$ pillows I've tried, and if you can't feel the 60$ difference, that's an issue. I believe the reviews mentioning that the foam gave in after a couple of months, because it feels cheap. Just not worth it. Pretends to be a smart design simply because it's unique, but unique doesn't mean it's great. Considering the lack of clones of this design, probably says a lot about its 'effectiveness'.

I won't try any other pillow
I had a chiropractor give me one of these pillows many years ago, due to me having no natural curve in my neck and getting migraines in my sleep. In the beginning, it was absolutely difficult to sleep on because my body had not adjusted. It's not a typical cotton pillow. It's a foam that maintains it's shape for ORTHOPEDIC purposes. Depending on the measurement guide provided, will depend on the height and thickness of the pillow. My first pillow was a petite size and it lasted me years. Due to the fact that I am consistent in a workout regimen, my upper body has become broader causing me to move to the Average size pillow. As I am now 10 plus years in on using this pillow, I have my natural curve back in my neck and no longer get migraines while I sleep. I'm still a constant mover, but I am in no pain. The only complaint I have about this pillow is the cover. Getting it off and on is ridiculous. I have torn pieces off the bottom of my pillow due to bad design. I wash my cover weekly and I dread taking it off and on. There needs to be a better solution for the pillow case. All-in-all this pillow isn't for everyone, but I can say after many years it has worked for me. My neck is supported better than a standard pillow and the thickness suits the size recommended via the measurements suggested.

Good pillow, but not great
I have slept on my pillow now for several weeks. I must say that while I am pleased with it and I haven't found a better pillow it's not perfect. I have 3 herniated disks in my neck from a serious car wreck a few years ago. I had been rolling up the edge of my standard pillow for a long time so that I could fall asleep a little easier but the pillow never stays rolled up where I need it and I was waking up with no feeling in my fingers. So I had been looking around for some kind of solution or replacement of my standard pillow, going to all sorts of bedding stores. Most of them even have those pillow rolls that are supposed to fit under your neck while you sleep. But I found them all to be much too soft so they don't have the firmness that I need. And even if it did work for me they aren't nearly thick enough to allow me to sleep on my side so my head would hang down at an angle, aggravating my neck problem. While perusing Amazon it occurred to me to search for a pillow here and I found this one. As I said I'm pleased with it and while I haven't found better it's still not perfect. In the center section where your neck and head rest while laying on your back the pillow is formed and shaped to give support to your neck. And while it's a little firmer than those neck pillows I mentioned earlier it's still not firm enough for me and I still wake up with no feeling in my fingers some times. I've taken to folding up a wash cloth and placing it between my neck and the pillow and so far that solution is having a positive effect. As for the thick sides of this pillow the xtra large sized pillow is the perfect height for my head when I'm sleeping on my side, so that much is terrific. But I've found that the pillow foam (probably due to the shear thickness of the foam) is too firm and I wake with the side of my face, jaw and some times even my teeth aching a bit. It may be that my face will just have to adjust. Or maybe the manufacturer could add a layer of pillow stuffing on top so that it's not so hard. I really like the concept of this pillow. The manufacturer is definitely on the right track, but it needs improvement. At least as far as my needs are concerned. 8/14/15 I'm editing my review to add some additional comments. I've sent 3 emails to the manufacturer for assistance and direction. The first email was ignored. After the second email (mentioning the lack of response from the first email) someone at Therapeutica responded, asking for additional details. The third email with the additional details has gone unanswered for 4 weeks now. No "We are researching the issue and will respond as soon as we can." Not even a "Go away, you bore us." Nothing. I'd take away another star from my rating but that's not fair to the pillow itself. Suffice it to say that while the pillow addresses the issues reasonably, the manufacturer has no concept of customer service.

My Doctor recommended medication. I tried this instead.
The pillow market and people who review pillows have annoyed me for some time. I am not just a side-sleeper, I'm not just a back-sleeper, I'm both and I can't control it. I'll fall asleep on my side and wake up on my back. Is this rare? Am I really an anomaly? Maybe, and if so, forgive me oh ye popular sites who review pillows because I'm assuming their are others like me who would like to know if there are pillows that can accommodate this uncontrollable change in sleep positions while they sleep and for some reason, they more often than not don't mention anything about pillows that can do this! I quickly learned by trying some of the top recommend pillows that they don't work and it doesn't take a rocket surgeon to figure out why. For people like me, you need a higher pillow to support you when side-sleeping and then when you roll on to your back you need something much lower. For the longest time I either get neck pain from sleeping on a pillow that wasn't high enough to support me on my side, or I would get severe trap tightness from back sleeping on a pillow that was too high and pushed my neck too far forward. That severe trap tightness/pain lead me to talking to my doctor and he suggested an anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxer. I had a suspicion a pillow change might be able to help as well and so I did a bunch of research to find a pillow that could help people with neck and back issues and eventually I landed on this one and I'm so grateful I found it! It is exactly the solution of a pillow that I had imagined, a hybrid pillow that allows me to sleep on my side and roll into a lower portion of the pillow when I roll onto my back. I never used any of the medication my doctor gave me. I just used this pillow and it didn't take long to realize the obvious benefits of sleeping on a pillow that supports you perfectly depending on the position you are in. I have no issues with my traps now and all it took was this pillow. I really don't have any issues with it. I did have to order it twice to get the size right. I love how the sides aren't completely flat so your head doesn't slip off the side of the cliff sides of the pillow. They have the slightest bowl shape that keep locked in. I did try a different pillow that was highly praised called the SpineAlign Pillow. That one you can adjust the foam and is shaped a bit different. I returned it pretty quickly as I much preferred the Therapeutica for better support and I thought it held me better in my sleep positions. I will say one thing I wish Therapeutica could do to reduce the size the pillow, because it is quite large, is to remove one of the sides and make it so if you want to sleep on your other side you could just flip it around. Yes you would have to add a back support to each side but this would greatly reduce the size which can take some maneuvering when sleeping next to a bed partner and positioning your body to sleep on your side. All in all this pillow is amazing and I should've reviewed it a long time ago. I've been using it for about a year now and I have finally found my long-term pillow!

Therapeutica is the ONLY pillow I will ever use... been using them for 25 years!
I have ONLY used this style Therapeutica pillow for almost 25 years. I used to drive my mom to her chiropractor and he sold them. His staff would measure to ensure correct fit. Both my mom and the chiropractor are long gone... so I am very happy that the Therapeutica is sold on Amazon. The 5 year guarantee is accurate... these pillows hold up. Throughout the 90s I tried many other "ergonomic" pillows, some double the price, and none worked well or lasted. This one does. I was replacing it about every 4 or 5 years until the past few years... now I choose to replace about every 3 or 3 1/2 years because after an injury, I don't want to wait until it gets too soft... but that is just because I have medical issues. For years I used the "average" but after the injury that size did not seem to support my neck and I switched to the large and it is perfect. I hope they never stop making this pillow because it maintains a quality of life for me! p.s. Although mostly great reviews... there were some bad ones. I want to address a few of those issues. Everyone's body is different. This is a comfortable but firm pillow. That is not for everyone, just like bed softness/firmness varies... so does what works in pillows. The incredible support of this pillow comes from the unique shape. However, this takes some getting used to AND proper alignment. There can be a temptation to be a little lazy sometimes and roll over and be out of alignment with the pillow and not correct it. Don't do it. Consciously align yourself with each position change... it is like you are training yourself and it becomes very natural... second nature. So the person who woke too much because they frequently switched from side to side and hitting the middle dip in the process... they might have gotten used to it or maybe the pillow is not for them. I don't consider myself a light or heavy sleeper. So that might make a difference, I don't know. But for me... it became very natural to realign when I change position during sleep. I can feel just enough consciousness/awareness to realign, but not so much that it disturbs my sleep. Regarding the review that had a gross used pillow in a Mac box... don't know who re-sold that but it definitely did NOT come from the manufacturer... Core Products has always been professional. Regarding the pic where it is all torn up... what the h??? I don't know how that could even happen. I use the thermal fitted cover that comes with pillow. I gently remove and wash it periodically. Over that, I use a pillow protector that is changed every time I change the regular pillow case. I have NEVER had one of these pillows disintegrate or fall apart. So for the person who posted a pic of a badly damaged pillow... I am not sure how that happened but I suggest you contact the company for a replacement. The only time I ever had to contact them, their customer service was professional. The company had been bought out. Core Products had made some changes in material based on technology advancements. But I was feeling like the support wasn't lasting. They insisted their testing showed that it still held up, but they honored my request for a replacement. In hindsight... I will say it was probably me that changed. It was after my injury and, as I mentioned above, I changed size and that gave me the support and elevation I needed. But dealing with the company that one time, it was nice getting old-fashioned customer service... being able to reach the same person and not a call center. They were respectful and responsive. Hope this helps! And hope the pillow works well for you!
