I bought this on the recommendation of a coworker who runs a board games meetup group. He told me it was his “go to” game for new players but that it was almost always in the rotation even for seasoned players. After playing it with my family over the Thanksgiving holiday, I can definitely see why! Our group of 6, ages 26 to 56, had a great time playing it and they wanted to play it again multiple times over the 4 days instead of moving to a different game. The game is fairly easy to learn, each turn has players selecting their card at the same time and then the turns are short and often impact other players. This means less time sitting around and waiting for other players or being bored until it is your turn again. Combat between players is frequent and low stakes enough to be fun and not strongly avoided. Because of the amount of luck (via dice rolls and drawing cards), the game is well balanced. So a player who looks to be trailing for most of the game can suddenly come from behind and be in contention to win. It also means that new players have just as much chance of winning as board games regulars. There is just enough strategy to keep the experienced players interested without giving them a major advantage. It is also rather difficult to find good board games that support up to 6 players (most cap out at 5), making this a great option for when you might have 3 couples playing together, etc. Jamaica is now going to be my “go to” game for introducing new players to board gaming or when there is a mixed experience level in the group. Highly recommend.

Very cute family style game that has alot of replayability. You're racing around a track, playing the cards in your hands. A little luck with which cards you have, but plenty of strategy as well. This is a game you can pull out to play with anyone, and they would catch on quickly. Lots of fun.

One of the best board games of all time provided you have the expansion too. I just wish the character decks used standard size card because sleeving them is painful. The smaller treasure cards are definitely easier to sleeve with many options on the market. This revised version is great and has room for The Crew expansion in the new box. A must have for any tabletop/board game fan and collector.

This isn't a game for those who are looking for a lot of strategy, but this is a nice "race around the board" palate cleanser or something to play with your friends who aren't hardcore into board games. You *do* have to think about your moves and form something of a plan, but you won't be thinking moves and moves and moves ahead.

This is a fun pirate ship racing game. The move mechanic was a little difficult to learn at first. The game uses a combination of dice and cards to move. Once we got the hang of that, we were off to the races! Have played it with my partner with and without the “ghost” ship that is used in a 2-player game and with our game group of 5. It scales well. In fact, it’s probably best with more than 2 players.
