GE Top-Loading Hot and Cold Water Dispenser - White

I like the higher flow rate for chilled water and the high clearance for filling water bottles and pitchers. Safety slider for hot water works smoothly. Not a decor piece, but clean lines and does a very good job for replacing my high-sodium city water in Saint Augustine (due to salt-water-intrusion in city wells (thanks Florida developers)).

After I took it out of the box, I let it sit overnight in order for the Freon to settle into the condenser, at least I think that's what it's for. I cleaned it well, ran a couple of gallons through, unplugging the back on both sides in order to make sure all of the tap water I put in came out before I added my spring water. This is an excellent design for a top loader. It can be a little loud sometimes but it's not intolerable. See the video for more of what I like about it.

Product arrived quickly and was easy to set up. It was packaged tightly in its box. I rinsed out the well a couple of times to reduce the possibility of any bad taste from a new water appliance. Everything worked well from the start.

So far the functionality of this product is fine. It does what it's supposed to do: dispenses hot and cold water. We're just a few days in, however, and I already notice a few things I consider design flaws. First is the button location. They are oriented pointing up, which means my dog can also easily use it (oh, no!). She hopped up to investigate the new gadget and easily pressed the buttons. Let's hope this doesn't become a habit. The real drawback, though is how LOUD the heating cycle is. Luckily, once you're up and running the heating cycle doesn't need to run constantly, but when it does it's quite obnoxious. UPDATE: After just nine months, I came out one morning to find my kitchen floor covered in water. The leak seemed to be coming from the heating container. Honestly, I'm not even that mad about having a good excuse to replace it, it was that loud and annoying.

Short term worked fine but water had a weird taste. After about 18 months it stopped cooling. Since it’s GE I figured I’d get maybe 5 years out of it.

This was a replacement for another top load model that lasted over 14 years. Purchased a different brand but it leaked so I returned it and bought this instead. Easy to fill larger bottles. The only downfall is that it could be a little quieter but it's really not that bad.

We absolutely love this thing. Hot tea in an instant, clean cold water on demand. It's a little too heavy so be sure to have it on a level surface.
