Works like an electric toothbrush. You will require batteries.

I have only used this once and now any sort of pressure the brush does not rotate, I put new batteries in and no difference, should this last longer?

Yeah it's not amazing, it would be ok as a tooth brush but it's not ideal for scrubbing. It will stop rotating if you apply too much pressure, in theory, while it is rotating you shouldn't need to apply pressure, it's more of a gentle scrubber for more hard to reach angles. Pretty decent on plug holes and the base of taps but I just use it as a scrubbing brush really.
