Works well, easy to use, nice big screen!
I installed this on my Seaswirl Striper 1851 Walkaround boat and it's been great so far! Intuitive menus and a nice bright and easy to read screen (even in the sun). The plastic mount feels nice and solid. The whole unit just pops off from the plastic mount so you can take it with you when you park your boat (a great safety/anti-theft feature). It came preset with maps for Hawaii (though my last unit did show more points of interest). I generally go out in offshore Hawaii waters and troll for fish. I placed the transducer a reasonable distance from my main outboard motor and followed the included instructions for the right angle and such. It just worked right out of the box! Overall a great deal for the price and feature-set.

Great unit for the money
I really don’t know how a person could do better for the price. Easy to use, easy to install, works great.

Software still clumsy, transducer will not work at speed
The software for these systems is clumsy. I had hoped with a new model that they had improved it, but not that I can see. Picture is clear and clean, screen is great, directions for operation are OK but not great. Have done everything possible to make transducer work at speed -- still get nothing over 10 knots. Have consulted with experts, tried all sorts of adjustments -- NADA. Suggest you not count on much with a deep V hull and outboard.

Depth finder and fish finder functions are so easy and worth the cost
Many different screens, charts and functions to mention. Half a season of use and I can't wait for more! Depth finder and fish finder functions are so easy and worth the cost!

The garmin gps/sonar would shutdown every 2 to 10 minutes
The new/out of the box garmin gps/sonar would not stay on. it would shutdown every 2 to 10 minutes, I tried different circuits and different batteries. Finally, I hooked it to a battery in my garage and the same problem happened. I contacted garmin support and they sent a new backplate and power cord. The new parts did not solve the problem. After two days of installation and troubleshooting, I'm thoroughly frustrated that the device is defective. I don't know if I got a one in a thousand lemon or if more of these defective units are out there. Mine is now in a return box to Amazon.

Why do chips need to be so expensive? Think I understand why, just wish they were less

Awesome unit!!!!
This thing is awesome!! Love everything about this unit!! Big screen easily seen anywhere in my 18 ft boat. Great alarms, tide table charts, and accuracy when marking fish. We went dipnetting at the mouth of the Kenai river when sockeye & chinook salmon were schooling below the boat and seals were chasing them, really cool to watch on the fishfinder! Depth is extremely accurate!
