I looked all over mine and could not find a "made in" stamp anywhere on the shovel. It is well made though. Hope this helps.

Q: the screw in the middle section the size and the threads per inch I would like to replace it with a metal one

You can always try. It fell apart when my son used it.

Q: How do we tighten it . It’s loose and flemsy?

To tighten the shovel: *Loosen* the collar by turning counterclockwise first, then pull it down/out and you can then unfold the shovel, and tighten the collar again by turning clockwise.

Technically speaking, the maximum loading weight for 18.1"mini shovel is 27lbs (12.2kg) and the maximum loading weight for 22.8" small shovel is 55lbs (24.9kg). Too much over the above weight is not recommended.
