A small, useful, unassuming little tool.
It is about as simple as it gets. A shaped one piece wood handle. A simple unadorned blade with an appealing traditional profile. There is no locking mechanism -- just friction. It's extremely light. I really like it. Blade is shipped sharp, though i had to knock a burr off one side -- i just dragged it across a coarse piece of paper a few times which did the job. It's not something you'll show off, it's something you'll quietly enjoy for its utter simplicity. And it's carbon steel, so you don't need to be an expert to sharpen it quickly.

Cool Little Blade
This is a tiny tool, to be sure. I have not purchased an Opinel smaller than No. 06 (a handy pocket carry with the locking system), but I wanted something on the smaller side. I got my wish with this one. Even when studying the dimensions, I didn’t envision it being as petite as it is. But I am not disappointed. I was looking for an addition to my light, small knives in the “Sunday carry” category. An unobtrusive knife for dress slacks attire. This is a cool, funky addition to my collection. For comparison, the knives pictured alongside it in the photos are: Old Timer Mighty Mite, Gerber Silver Knight, and an executive Wenger Delémont I picked up in Switzerland years ago. The Opinel is by far the lightest of the bunch because of the thin blade and beechwood handle. Feathers in the pocket. It’s not a utility knife, but a handy cutter for light duty jobs. Of course, I would like a locking mechanism, but that’s not an option on these small Opinels. And frankly, you don’t need a lock for small jobs. It’s a nice, functional little knife for a small investment. I consider it a good value. For those wondering, I did a 24-hour force patina on the carbon blade in an onion to resist corrosion. It will hold a good edge for a long time and sharpen easily. If you are interested in little and light knife for your collection, this is a winner. It feels right.

The Opinel No. 3: A Tiny Titan of Precision
The Opinel No. 3, the smallest of the traditional Opinel line, is a marvel of miniaturized utility. Don't let its diminutive size fool you; this little knife is a precision instrument, perfect for delicate tasks and everyday carry when space is at a premium. What immediately impresses is the sharpness of its slender blade. Even at this scale, the Opinel's renowned edge holds true. It's ideal for tasks requiring finesse, such as opening small packages, detailed crafting, or even precise food preparation on the go. The classic beechwood handle, while small, remains comfortable and secure in the hand. The simple, elegant design is a testament to Opinel's enduring appeal. It's a knife that exudes a sense of timeless craftsmanship. The Virobloc locking ring, even in its smaller form, functions flawlessly. It provides a secure lock, ensuring safety during use, a crucial feature in such a compact tool. The No. 3's ultra-compact size makes it incredibly easy to carry. It disappears into a pocket or bag, making it a perfect companion for travel, picnics, or any situation where a small, precise knife is needed. While it may not be suitable for heavy-duty tasks, the Opinel No. 3 excels at what it's designed for: delicate work and effortless portability. It's a testament to the fact that even the smallest tools can deliver exceptional performance. If you need a tiny, sharp, and reliable knife, the Opinel No. 3 is a perfect choice.

Opinel No. 5: Small, simple, excellent.
What a great value. Family owned, making the thing they make well. This little No. 5 disappears in my pocket (in a good way. In fact, it's even made it through security screenings, unintentionally, of course), featherweight, is easy to sharpen, and I won't get bent out of shape if I lose it. I live in the city not some bug out location, and I still probably use it a dozen times a week and always have it when someone around me needs a quick snip/slice of whatever. I will say with the softer steel, I've sharpened the blade down enough it's getting tricky to open. But who cares? I can give it away and buy another for that price!

Ideal for ultralight backpacking
This knife is super lightweight (mine is 10g). It has become my go-to for backpacking. Granted, if you are looking for a knife you are going to use a lot, this isn't it. It's very small and the blade is extremely thin, so I imagine it could snap if used improperly. However, if you are like me and only need a knife in the backcountry to cut cheese or sausage, a piece of tape or string, then this does perfectly. Definitely wouldn't hold up to bushcrafter or boy scout type backpacking, but if you spend your time in the woods crushing miles rather than sitting around a fire carving wood or building a lean-to, then this knife will suffice. The blade was super sharp when delivered, and it's cheap enough to replace regularly. It's definitely more usable than a razor blade or box cutter for you ULers out there.

Delighted
Having seen these classic, simple knives in various examples for years, I finally decided it was time to see what they were about. Unsure what the best size would be, I chose the #5 as it was the largest of the non locking style. Carbon steel (cause I appreciate the extra effort needed for maintenance for being so easy to sharpen), and pocket sized. Smaller than I expected, but the feather weight disappeared in my pocket, and didn't flag "knife!" with a pocket clip. Feels good in the hand, and the decent factory edge let me make my kids lunch with it out of the box. All knife nerds need at least one of these as an example of a classic European working man's pocket knife

Unusual Defect on a Quality Knife
To start with, I just loved the concept of a tiny knife, particularly an Opinel. Opinels are known for their quality, trustworthiness of the blade, and lightweight handles. This knife is no exception, except for one thing. Out of the package, the blade had oxidation and rust spots on it. This is something you get with a carbon steel blade, as it isn't stainless steel, but it should definitely not be happening on a new knife, and especially not an Opinel. That being said, it is possible that it was incorrectly stored or transported in some way that allowed moisture to reach it. I bought two of these knives, and while one had rust on the blade, the second knife was spotless and met my fullest expectations. I gave this product three stars to draw attention to the lack of care given that allowed the product to be damaged. The second Opinel No.2 is a great knife and will hopefully prove itself further with more use.

Small and Perfect.
Classic little utility knife ... (Pic left to right : Victorinox ALOX Classic 58mm, Opinel Carbbon No.4, Opinel No.5 Stainless Steel No.5 and a Regular sized Clipper lighter.) Came super sharp from the Factory. Much is made of the Carbon needing care as the blade is sensetive even to finger touch causing rust (Patina) quickly - this is overplayed imo. This is a superior version over Stainless for my needs. Holding a sharper edge longer is especially useful if your wanting to use it on woods etc However, I would say if you are just wanting to cut fruit or open a letter with your knife - Stainless could be the way to go for you - they are also GREAT knives. The Carbon Care/ Maitenance is very minimal. 1 You can just deliberately Patina the Blade (See YT vids on how to do it - it's easy peasy.) 2 Rinse and Wipe the blade after uses and apply either vegetable oil (the Opinel website recommended) with a cotton swab, I use Olive oil as it's what I have on hand at Mo' - same results. This takes seconds to do. Even if you don't want to do this the blade will just patina naurally and age nicely anyway - remember this is utility and any age wear/looks are really just knife character. As long as you keep it sharp, Opinels can perform admirably well for years. Ergonamically the handle is comfortable and functional - I can get 3 fingers on the handle with my little finger supporting at the rear of the knife for support/control. (I have Medium Adult sized hands.) It's a Classic design in an easy, discreet, carry size. The trick as ever is buy the knife that suits your needs, anybody who gives this knife a bum review didn't do this and that is their error, not the knifes. Opinels have changed little in 125 years and nor will they in the next 125, that's really cool imo - I love that sort of Tradition and at the price they are a bargain as well. Viva Opinel and Viva the No.4 Thank you!

Kaliteli
4 aydır kullanıyorum, kutu, kargo, ambalaj açmak için yani sert zor bir iş yaptırmadım ama köreldi. Bunun dışında gayet kaliteli hala daha iyi iş görüyor
