One unit refuses to work
Ok, im a techie. I have done Asus mesh routers before and have had 2x ax68u meshed and working beautifully and stably. Then I decided I'd like to get better performance now that my home line was upgraded too. So decided to try these reasonably priced units. Was aware they were shipping from USA and realised that Asus still stupidly doesn't put universal swappable plugs on their power adapters so needed to buy the flat to British style adapters also before these arrived. So they arrived, looked used and not new, but hey I'm all in for saving the planet. So first router works fine, I made it the first mesh router and bang, every device connected to it perfectly. Was very happy and the signal was so strong that I didn't even bother to unwrap the second device. One evening I was bored and decided to bring the second unit online. 4 hours later, multiple resets, hard reset, wife and child complaining but still no go. It connect to the main mesh node but refuses to let any device connect to it. I redirect the syslog server on the units to my Linux home server and watch the logs. The second unit is stuck in an infinite loop on NTP with a date some 2 months offset. So one unit is correct, 2nd unit never syncs though it has perfect network connection (it updated it's firmware online). Clearly certificates are not being accepted with such a temporal discrepancy and the unit is a dud. Now it makes sense why it is a used unit. Someone clearly faced the same issue and sent it back and it's been roaming around the world with Amazon. Kudos to Amazon returns policy, this is scheduled to be picked up and make its way to someone else. I wish Amazon would take some trusted reviewers word and send this back to the manafucturer as there will be a lot of future heartache for someone else, plus money lost shipping, and the planet carbon emissions going up. Honestly I've had such a good general experience with Asus routers I was so disappointed. Infact I will try once more with another unit (perhaps the xt8 instead of the et8) as I think I was just unlucky here.
