A friend told me how she'd been prescribed Deplin, a medical food, to take along with her long-prescribed anti-depressant, and how mellow and anxiety-free she was feeling after a couple of weeks. My curiosity piqued, I looked it up and found that it's "just" methylated folate. I read up on the supplement, user reviews on various forums, and learned I could replicate a standard 15 mg. rx over the counter. Amazon comes again to my aid! I ordered this product because it is the exact type of methylfolate used in prescription Deplin.I started with a 7.5 mg. dose (7.5 tablets) because I'd read that some people experience nausea or headaches when first starting, and the way to avoid that is to start at a smaller dose and also take 50 mg. flush-type niacin and some B12 with it (I don't recall the amount of B12 suggested, but I take a 1000 mcg. sublingual). No nausea, no headache. After a week I went to 15 mg. (15 tablets) along with the niacin and B12. It kicked in and I noticed feeling, well, like my friend said, mellow. Emotionally supported from within, in a soft, pleasant way. A total drop in feeling irritated by things, not getting caught up in worry, just feeling relaxed. I found my blood pressure readings significantly lowered, like down to 98/55! I'd checked it when I felt like I was too relaxed. So I reduced my bp medication (which was fine with my doc) and I feel really good every day.Lastly, I just learned I can get a 15 mg. x 30 rx filled at Costco for $38, as opposed to paying $65 a month for four bottles of this Solgar product, so I'll probably see my doc and go that route. But this product allowed me to try methylfolate without the cost of a dr.'s visit for what was essentially a whim.*******UPDATE July 7, 2016*******Change of mind about going the rx route; will instead switch to Methyl-Life 15 mg. chewables, sold on this site. Currently $79 for a 90 day supply, which is a whole lot cheaper than Solgar, especially since they raised the price by $5 since my recent repurchase. Also cheaper than a $38 rx.

I am anemic so I take iron, B-12, & folate. So far it is working well for me. Great price.

Needed a more therapeutic dose, so wound up taking 6 or 7 daily at different times to "sort of" mimic more closely the dosage of Deplin. Went through the bottle pretty quick. I didn't find anything with at least 5 to 10 mg of metafolin I could take daily by Solgar. Once I finished this bottle I found several other labs that offer the 5, 10 and even 15 mg dosage of metafolin. At the more therapeutic dosage I found my mental status improving back to baseline, so obviously metafolin works well at a therapeutic dosage. I paid extra for two-day shipping and got it exactly as promised.

The product and the company making it are both well known and excellent. This provider supplied it very quickly, sealed, and in condition—all at a satisfactory price. I highly recommend them, as opposed to my previous attempt with another company……..still awaiting product to arrive 6 weeks after ordering and still awaiting refund (see my previous review. This present company is head and shoulders better.

According to my doctor, Solar products are on the list of approved medicines because they contain what they are supposed to contain and that they are well absorbed by the body. My repeat lab values proved that my body is able to process them and get my lab values into normal range! The Solar Folate is already in its bio-active form, meaning your body doesn’t even have to do anything to make it useable for your body.

I was diagnosed to IBS-D 3 years ago. I had been struggling with it since then. I was keeping it under control with IBgard and Metamucil. However, it was cumbersome to take them each single meal. Besides IBS-D, I felt anemic all the time and always had low blood pressure. I googled and concluded maybe I might be low on folate. I further googled to to see what could be the cause of folic acid deficiency. It could be Celiac disease which I didn't get diagnosed with but my IBS seems to be worse when I eat gluten. Or it could be MTHFR gene mutation which is pretty common mutation. If you have MTHFR mutation, you should not take Folic Acid which is laboratory made form of folate. Folate is not stable if taken out of vegetable. Therefore scientists created Folic Acid, but if people with this mutation takes, it becomes harmful to those people. So I did all these research but I don't know for sure that if I have the mutation or even my level of Folate is low. Currently it's pandemic so going to a doctor is more risky than just experimenting it with it myself. But this helps with my IBS-D, I have more energy. Only thing is if i take this with coffee it doesn't seems to work also taking it with hot beverages seems to make it less effective. So I take this with cold beverages and try to drink coffee or hot beverages at least 6 hours after I take this. Also I only take it half of it everyday that seems to give me the best result. Before taking this I used Jarrow brand folate, that too helped with IBS-D however, the one gave me insomnia. So I tried this brand and with this i can still go to sleep as long as I take a half the dosage everyday.
