A better safe than most for the money spent - I ...
A better safe than most for the money spent - I have, and do own, several types of safes. It is not a 'Fort Knox' vault and is not sold or designed to be so, but it is very secure, heavy enough, and quality built. Apparently the Taiwan manufacturer has corrected the Right - Left number errors in the instructions mentioned here in other reviews, because I had no supplemental adder sheet to correct the instructions - the instructions were correct as written. An adequate amount of room inside and the shelf is nice too.The reviewer here who claimed to want the safe as a mold maker ? (very strange - find something else) and 'cracked' the safe is a useless review - of course unless you pay probably 500+ for a Mesa or other actual security safe, you can get into any of these type safes with a drill, etc. That is not what this is designed for - this is an excellent safe for medium security with the dual key and 4 digit combination and will work fine for most folks for their purpose at a good price. Common sense is uncommon now. This safe is heavier built and better than most for this amount. Spend more, and much more, IF you want a super vault. The only reason for 4 stars is lack of protective packaging for such a heavy item - NO foam or anything on 5 of the 6 sides for shipping - only a thin piece on the front when boxed. Mine arrived in good shape on 4 sides, but one leg is bent and one side has a golf-ball-size dent in it.I'm ok with this damage because it is a safe that works and it is not a nice piece of furniture or piece of art to look at all the time.Overall I believe most folks will be pleased with their purchase here - again for the this amount of money; You are not buying a crack-proof vault to withstand drilling and sledge hammers. This will store items safely from kids and a mild, short duration fire. Enjoy your purchase.

Quirky literature, but a good product.
Upon receiving the safe, I first noticed that it was badged "First Alert" rather than "Honeywell" as shown on this listing. Otherwise, the dimensions, specifications, and interface are identical.Mine was flawless and undamaged, contrary to the experience of other reviewers. Build quality is a little flimsy with virtually no resistance on the dial, but in this price range that's to be expected. It came with three booklets, each in a separate language, and a set of keys. Upon removing it from the box I naturally tried unlocking the safe.It wouldn't budge. After an exercise in dexterity, re-reading the manual, & finally questioning my sanity, I contacted First Alert customer service. Five minutes later I was speaking to an agent. She informed me quickly & casually that the manual was printed incorrectly, suggesting to me that mine was not the first exasperated phone call she had received. Rather than follow the LEFT-LEFT-RIGHT-LEFT-RIGHT sequence as printed in the manual, one must dial in RIGHT-RIGHT-LEFT-RIGHT-LEFT. Problem solved. The safe itself met my expectations: it's small, relatively inexpensive, & provides some basic fire protection. I'm not concerned about it being able to withstand armageddon or Bonnie and Clyde as I bought it to protect some important documents and a solid state hard drive in the event of a bumbling break in or a small, localized fire. It gets four stars due to only adequate build quality and the carelessly misprinted manual.[Update 8.31.13]:Over three years later, it's still functioning as it did on day one, that is to say well. No jammed keys, no stuck dial. Other than spilling some paint on it during the great remodeling of 2012, it's good-as-new.

Better off with something else
Safe arrived in 2 day in perfect condition, no damage. It came with additional documentation because the instructions provided in the manual on how to work the combination lock are wrong. I guess they could not replace all the manuals because the combination to the safe is stamped on the last page of the manual. The safe appears to be built very well, the locking mechanism works great and the product is an exceptional value EXCEPT for one thing. IT DOES NOT BOLT TO THE FLOOR as advertised. The "2 solid steel bolts and mounting hardware for bolting to the floor" do not come with this safe, nor do I see holes in the bottom of the safe for mounting to the floor. I called the manufacturer and they told me this safe does not bold to the floor. What you can do is use the 4 break off bolts and attach safe to table or counter from underneath. The screw heads break off so you cannot remove the safe "easily" according to the manual. The bolts seem undersized but that is really irrelevant because the mount will only be as strong as the surface you attach it to. There is little doubt that if I was on vacation and my house was burglarized this safe would be GONE. Very disappointed

Decent safe for the price
The safe arrived on schedule. The product looked and worked as I had expected. It seems well-built and sturdy. The key combination worked when I followed the corrected and updated information sent on a separate sheet.Although there was no visible damage to the packaging, the back left corner of the safe was slightly dented. Also, the unique product id on the silver sticker on the outside of the safe was almost completely rubbed off -- I guess in transit. This number would be required if I ever lost my key combination and had to call the company to get my combination. I called customer service for Fire Safe to see if they could help me identify my unique product id. The customer rep was friendly and helpful but he couldn't locate my id based on the information I gave him. So he suggested that I return the product to Amazon for a replacement. But I didn't want to go through all that trouble (and I also don't expect to lose my combination!), so I retained the safe. Overall I'm happy with the product.
