Sweet Potato
I bought the 1/2" cutter for sweet potatoes. It's good I got the 1/2" as it's not easy to pull these through. I cut them in half and put the pointed end first and found that with a good smooth pull it works great. If I stopped without pulling it through completely the potato sticks and then it's a struggle. I tossed the fries with some avocado oil, put them on a quarter sheet pan and baked them at 350 F with convection for a little over 30 minutes..came out perfect.I love the way the whole cutting unit slides out of the wall plate for cleaning. This unit works for me.

I wanted to love it...
I love heavy duty, commercial grade equipment. Especially for things that require a lot of force, like pushing an entire potato through a set of blades. This looked great and I was super excited by how it appeared online. Unfortunately, there were several deal breakers: (1) The handle was all dinged up right out of the box. It seems like there’s an underlying metal and some kind of metal-like coating that was all dinged up, allowing the underlying metal to show through. (2) There are parts on the main cutter that are meant to slide into a permanently wall-mounted plate. Unfortunately, the metal coating material had all kinds of lumps and bumps that made it impossible for the legs to actually fit into the wall mount plate. (3) Most of this thing is VERY heavy duty, and that seems great, until you notice that part of the hinge mechanism, seemingly the part that would take the highest stress, is a wimpy, thin piece of bent metal. Mine was already a bit bent out of shape on arrival. It kind of reminds me of the old adage “a chain is only as strong as its weakest link” which made the rest of the incredibly heavy duty construction seem worthless. (4) The hinge pieces are assembled by snapping these weird semi-circle metal clip pieces into grooves on the pins. It was impossible for me to do it by hand (and I’m a pretty strong 6 foot tall, 200 pound guy) and extremely awkward to do with plyers. (5) The wall mount plate seems like a genius idea since you can permanently mount it to the wall and then easily slide the main unit in and out for cleaning. Well, in addition to mine not being able to slide in (per point 2 above), the hole spacing is too wide. Standard studs in the US are just under two inches wide but the hole spacing is about 3 inches. That just isn’t going to work if you want screws in all holes to be going into studs (which, of course, you should for something undergoing this much stress). (6) Finally, there’s a warning saying the product can expose you to lead. Now, it is one of those “known to the state of California” warnings which I tend not to worry too much about, but this one literally says “This product can expose you to chemicals including LEAD (pb).” In my food-making product I use with my kids? No thanks. The makers of this product had a lot of good ideas but the implementation just doesn't cut it.

Missing pieces
It seems like a very nice fry cutter but it's missing almost all of the nuts and bolts.
