Q: I love this but too much flow for my small birdbath. How can I turn down the volume of water?

I have small birdbath slso. I placed a little pebble rock on top to cover a little tiny bit in more middle area and it lowered the power of it so it's now perfect height. Lol just play n put small rock on it until you have your height u want. Remove it for full tall height lol. Working great n stays for me.

Q: Why won’t it shut off automatically when there is no water?

There's no float valve. It's just a simple solar panel connected to a pump. It DOES cause a few "where is that sound coming from" moments when it's out of the water though,

Q: It don’t show straws holding it up,??

I didn’t use them. It took me a while to figure out the straws are supposed to go in the little grey clips that pop into the underside around the edges. I think it is to stabilize it so it doesn’t flip but not sure. Mine works fine w/out the straws and I think it looks better. I just use the disk itself.
