Dancefloor Gilberto
Ms. Gilberto's most recent, self-titled affair was a bit of a departure from her first album, 'Tanto Tempo'; it had more of a polished "pop bossa" emphasis as opposed to traditional bossanova stylings, and the album received mixed reviews from many critics and fans. A decent remix album of the songs from Tanto Tempo followed, and (as one probably would have guessed) we would also eventually have a remix album of Bebel's newest cd...which has finally arrived. Many of the remixes here were originally released on limited-run, import 12" singles (some sold out very quickly).Once again, we have the cream of the nujazz/broken beat crop offering their takes on Bebel's tunes...but the difference here is that this time the remixes really show a marked improvement over the original songs.Spiritual South's version of "Aganju" is a guaranteed floorfiller, for example. The other mixes on the CD fare just as well, although some are a bit more sublime. The bonus disc has 6 songs: 3 dub mixes and 3 remixes (including a John Beltran rework!). Kudos to Six Degrees for giving the listener a complete remix package...and you can't beat the price, either: 2 discs, 29 songs, for under $10!

Bebel + bossa nova + electronica = another hit!
I've been listening to Bebel Gilberto since her first record came out around 2000 and I've bought all her albums since. If you look at the above equation you should get a pretty good idea of what this record is all about. Most tracks are very danceable and a few are more ambient. Some of the included tracks are a little weak, which I would have given 4 stars, but since the bonus disc brings the track total to 19 (with 4 impressive mixes of Aganjú) I'm giving it 5. If you are a fan of modern bossa nova, electronic/dance music, or really hot sounding female singers, you will like this.

Just not the same
I was really looking forward to Bebel's next release as it seems to take forever and a day before something new appears at the music shop. I grooved on tanto tempo just as I did Sade (back in the day)...O.K...I still do! I enjoy her self titled CD just as much if not more so than the First. Let me say that I am not a complete stranger to electronic "remix" music. I new basically what I was getting into when I purchased the remix version, but I have to say in all honesty...it just ain't that good, despite what you read in some of the other reviews. Perhaps I just put her original productions on too high of a pedestal, but let's face it, the original material is true to the intent and very polished...just top-of-the-line stuff! On this remix CD, there are only a couple songs you can groove to, and the rest seem to more or less be trying "desperately" to make her songs into something they were never intended to be. Some mixes are just downright strange, for lack of a better word. Three quarters of the CD just "doesn't work." I doubt if some of these "mixologists" have ever even picked up a musical instrument. Just as you wouldn't mix pin stripes with pokadots, you may not like this mix either.

Aganju
I have been a fan of Bebel Gilberto for years. I really like her voice, so soft and mellow. She is one of my favorite artists whenever I go for a drive along the coast on a sunny day. Listen to the song Aganju, you'll agree.

Bebel Remixed
Of Bebel's recordings that I have heard, the 'remixes' are my favorite CD's. On this remix of her self-titled CD I was pleasently surprised to find a second remix CD hidden in the sleeve. This is my idea of Bebel and modernity--the new Brazil sound she helped to popularize. All of the tracks do well and bring wonderful music to world ears.

It is just as good as I remember
I bought this CD to replace the copy that I lost about 8 years ago. It is just as good as I remember. Sexy vocal over sweet electronic beats:)

Brilliant!
I obtained the special edition (with 2 cd incl.) and once again Bebel put her spell on me. There are no flows here. All her songs received amazing remixes, which allow the listener to discover them once again.Obligatory item for Bebel Gilberto's fans :)

Rundum gelungen !
Zugreifen!
