Expensive, but it's built to last...
This arrives in a plain cardboard box and is a lot bigger than I expected it to be. It is heavy, bulky but you can tell by the feel of it that it’s a quality-built item. When I first saw the price of this, I thought it was overpriced for an extension lead as I’ve only used the cheaper coiled up ones in the past, but this one is wall mounted so thought I’d give it a go. When it arrived and I took it out of the box, I could see why it’s expensive. It is solidly built, and definitely heavy duty, so is designed for the hardiest of workplaces. It is designed to be mounted on a wall and comes with included wall plugs and bolts which are also solid bolts and designed to hold a heavy load. The hinge can swivel 135 degrees and swings freely so no matter which direction you pull the lead, the hinge with allow the extension to swivel to always face you.The extension lead is housed in a Polypropylene case so is designed to be tough and to take a good knock or two. It has a good, modern, and clean look about it and makes using the extension convenient. The case includes a spring mechanism which enable the lead to be pulled out and it will also draw itself back in when finished with. To extend the lead you simply pull on it and walk with it to where you need the extension end to be. The lead will then lock in place, thanks to the internals of the case, so it won’t try to pull itself back. When you’ve finished with it, just pull the lead out slightly and the lock will release, and you’ll feel it pulling the lead back, so you can walk back to the cord reel as it is drawn back into the case. Extremely easy to use and keeps any unsightly cable out of view as it is wrapped neatly inside the case. The extension lead can carry up to 2000w at 15Amp when fully unwound, 1000w if not. If you’re after a heavy duty extension cable then this is ideal and is very strong and durable…

A good entry level cable reel, ideal for home workshops!
The cable reel arrived safely, and it comes neatly packed inside a plain and sturdy cardboard box.The overall quality of the cable wheel is very good for the money, I wouldn’t say its ultra-heavy duty but it’s certainly in the heavy-duty region. The plastic is thick, tough, and easy to wipe down if it gets dirty. Both the cables are fairly thick yet remain flexible enough to take round corners. The bracket seems more than capable enough to hold the weight of the reel (6.5kg) and you get two 80mm heavy duty bolts and wall plugs to keep it on the wall or ceiling. The plastic socket on the end of the extension isn’t the best quality though, the casing is made from thin plastic that you can squeeze with your fingers, and it will probably crack if it receives a hard knock, a rubber one would have been much better like older type units used to have or a least thicker plastic. The cable reels out very smoothly and you can lock it at pretty much any length you like. To make the cable retract you just pull on it slightly to start the recoil mechanism and it really goes back with some force, the mechanism works really well and should be quite durable. When the cable is coiled up its recommended to use no more than 1600 watt through it, but if fully extended you can use the full 3200 Watts (according to the user guide). The cable reel features a built-in circuit breaker with a reset button.Overall, I think for a budget cable reel this one is pretty decent and if looked after it should last for a good number of years. If you are after a cable reel for your workshop, shed, garage, etc and you want it to be tougher than average then I think you will be happy with this one from SuperHandy. It’s a product I’m happy to recommend and I feel four stars is appropriate for it!

Solid, robust and convenient
This is quite a weighty item, but I think it is testament to its robustness. The cable pulls out freely and reels back in cleanly and in one go. I occasionally have issues with it not catching as I get to the length I want, but a bit of a to and fro and it soon catches. When it is locked in place it doesn’t retract until I pull back on it to release the brake and it reels in quickly. It helps to control the return as it can go back in with a bit of force. There is a bung at the end to stop the plug from acting as the stop (else the wires would rip out).I have anchored mine in my garage near to door and it is ideal for unwinding into the garden. I have to unwind into the garage first then drag it into the garden as it doesn’t have a clear line of sight, but that is no fault of the reel. When I am done I leave it stretched out and the reel easily pulls it back across the garden and around corners – being mindful that it can catch on objects as it winds in. The reel is not weatherproof, so it will need to be mounted where it is away from the elements. The reel has a 1000w rating when wound up, which is more than enough for gardening tools so you don’t need to unwind it all – If you weren’t aware – a coiled wire generates heat when in use and if you are using this close to the maximum, then I would suggest unwinding it where it can take up to 2000w.An ideal solution if using an extension cable regularly in the same place, but it comes with a cost.
