Update: excellent value
UPDATED REVIEW: I'll leave my original review here because it accurately reflects my first experience, but I can report that after I repaired the product I'm very happy with it. After a few uses straight out of the box, the trimmer stopped resonding to the on/off switch. I had to let it run until the battery died. I disassembled the product, removed and cleaned the switch components, reassembled and fully charged it. Whatever caused the problem is gone and all is good again. That was months ago. Since then I've used it several times a week and, unbelievably, it is still running strong on that charge. I'm used to recharging a trimmer ever week or so. I don't know how long this initial charge will last, but it's been many months now. That means I don't need to keep the charger plugged in and taking up valuable space. The shave I get is not as close as I'd get from a manual razor, but it's good enough for what I need. It's excellent at trimming and getting sharp lines and edges. I think most people would have returned the product when it went rogue, but I'm glad I didn't do that. When the time comes I'll gladly buy another trimmer from this company. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I bought this unit to replace a $12 Remington model that was finally dying after about eight years of good service. I bought this Philips because of it's affordability and good ratings. I shave about once a week. Before I even recharged this Philips shaver once, it became stuck in the "ON" position. The switch wasn't physically stuck; the unit simply stopped responding to the switch. I had to set the shaver on a towel and let it run for about an hour until the battery discharged. (Good battery life, I'll give it that!) In the few times I used it, the shave I got was decent at best. It didn't shave very close or smooth, and I had to go over some areas four or more times to get things acceptably short. I'll probably buy another Remington now. If I can get a warranty replacement for this dead Philips I'll keep it as an emergency backup.

I've been looking for this for years
I go through a lot of electric shavers, trimmers but am not for sure why. I shave my head with a blade and have a beard. The truth is, I'm usually looking for a trimmer/groomer like this one. I spend two days/nights away from home and I have to take a set of trimmers, pen trimmer (ears/nose) and usually a beard trimmer to get the straggling hairs. I also use body groomers as well. Years ago, I had a Wahl set that had multiple attachments that served all of my shaving needs but it died and I haven't been able to find it, at least not in the same quality. My wife was looking for a Father's Day gift for me and asked if I had seen these. This is the one! It's like the Wahl set I had. I have had a lot of experience with shaving, shavers and will tell you why this is the best choice. The price. I have paid this much for a pen trimmer. Better quality than you would expect for the price. Including a feature I miss having. The attachments/guides/different heads ... just pop on! No button to push, which gets jammed with hair, no trick to it. Each attachment/head has a piece that sticks out. It slips into place, you pop the other side in and that's it. Very sturdy, the attachments/heads don't budge. The pouch that comes with it looks and feels rather cheap and maybe it is but it's big enough to fit the trimmers, heads, attachments and charging cord in. It also has a ziploc like slider on top to keep everything in it without worrying about the pieces falling out. The trimmer itself is smaller than many that are on the market today and that's a bonus to me. I use these for trimming my beard, the lines of my beard, around my lips to keep the mustache out of my mouth and to even get the hair above my ears that I can't remember to shave with a razor. Bigger, bulkier trimmers are hard to use for those tasks. These will also trim most body hair. The stubble guide is the one you want for trimming the sensitive areas. It keeps the blade from touching the skin. The nose/ear head works as it should and saves me the time of finding my pen trimmer and replacing batteries in it and it has a precision trimmer head that can be used along the ears and to get perfect lines on your beard. I should have known to look at the cheaper options. I've spent way too much money on expensive ones that are laying in the bathroom vanity drawers with no known purpose. The best part, you can remove the head(s) and wash them off. I recommend drying them too. There's an included brush to clean out the inside of the head/motor area. Well worth the price.

Works okay until it got wet
I have been using this for about 3 years with no issues. Then one day it got wet by accident. The unit would no longer turn on and sometimes it would come on by itself at night and once it comes on there's no way to turn it off. I decided to take it apart since it wasn't working anyway and after removing the top cover I blew it out with compressed air to dry out the water. That got it working but the top cover would no longer operate the power button. I was either going try a Q-tip cut in half or a stainless ear cleaner. The ear cleaner works best. Maybe I'll get another 3 years out of it :)

Not nearly as good as it used to be.
I bought this as a replacement for my old one of the same brand. I've been using this brand for about 45 years and have always been very happy with them. This model is supposed to be a replacement for the model I had before. The old one still works, but the power button is very wonky and difficult to turn on and off. The new one fixes the power button which was a push button toggle and is now a slide switch. However, that is where the improvements end. The new one is not nearly as powerful as the old one. It also doesn't hold a charge as long. My wife could use the old one to cut my hair. This one can't handle that and bogs down and grabs. Overall, it works OK as long as it's got a good charge and I only use it to trim my beard and mustache. Not sure if I would buy it again or not. Might try another brand.
