Shimano's Newest Dual Purpose SPD/Platform Pedals
These are one of four Shimano pedals which are SPD dirt style clip-in on one side and platform pedals on the other. The others are the PD-T420, the PD-A530 and the PD-M324. All except the last are aluminum construction while the M324 has a steel cage and looks more like a BMX pedal. The T780 is the most expensive of the Shimano dual use pedals currently with the T420 the next cheapest. Both of these are relatively new while the others have been around for years. The T780 pedals are not drilled for the mounting of toe clips when using the platform side. The reflectors appear to be removable if legal in your area. They come standard apparently, based on what I received, with the silver finish multi release SM-SH56 cleats so if you know that you prefer the Shimano single release cleats, SM-SH51, order them separately. I wish that they gave you a choice as far as cleats choice is concerned. The platform side is not that aggressive and is without grip pins, or the holes for them. Adequate for non aggressive riding with normal rubber soled shoes but looks to me to likely be a bit slippery for leather soled shoes or sandals. Definitely not a high friction downhill or BMX platform surface.

Good pedal for starting out clipless, or if you just want versatility
I bought these in part because they are double-sided, and can be used with street shoes or MTB cleats. As I had not previously run with clipless pedals before, I was a little wary about going with a clipless-only pedal like the "eggbeater" or one of the other pedals that only work with cleats. Since I am using this on a Hybrid/Commuter bike, I wasn't concerned about the added weight of the dual platform, however these pedals are lighter than what I had on my bike before. They work well with my MTB cleats, and I definitely notice a difference when clipped in versus riding with street shoes. The pedals seem to be biased so the cleat side is always up, however I haven't checked to see it this is truly the case. I've just noticed that I have only needed to flip the pedal when wearing street shoes. If you are on the fence about switching to clipless, or just want the flexibility of riding with cleats or with street shoes, these are a good pedal to go with. You can adjust the release tension so your feet are either more securely attached for aggressive riding, or so your feet more easily come off the pedal if you are trying to pull your foot off--useful if you are riding with mixed traffic or a little nervous about going clipless. I didn't find the learning curve bad with these, and generally ride clipless now unless I am just going on a short ride somewhere. I would recommend starting out on a closed course if you are new to clipless--in other words, on trails where there is no automotive traffic to worry about, and also to attempt a couple of "emergency stops" in controlled conditions to ensure you get used to unclipping when you need to stop. One thing to note, they are installed with an allen wrench through the crank, and not using a bolt on the outside. I don't believe I've ever seen a bicycle crank where the pedal mounting hole wasn't drilled all the way through, but if such an animal does exist, these pedals will not work.

Best of Both Worlds
I got these because I wanted clipless pedals but I also wanted pedals that allowed me to ride without bike shoes if I wanted to. This really is the best of both worlds, the clipless side works just fine with my bike shoes and the other side works great when I don't wear them (usually when I am not riding for more than about 3 miles). Right now I imagine that they have had over 1,000 miles on them (I ride to work every day (weather permitting) and that's 6 miles each way) and they are holding up just fine although they are showing signs of wear, but those are mostly cosmetic. The only time I would say to not get these is if you are extremely weight conscious because they are noticeably heavier than clipless only pedals, but if you want pedals that are clipless on one side and regular on the other; this would be the one to get.

They are very easy to get in and out
I got these for my Surly LHT so I can have the advantage of wearing regular shoes or cleats. They are very easy to get in and out, have a nice shoe side platform, role smoothly and look great. I no longer have to worry about changing pedals.

Not compatible with my pedal extenders
While the pedals themselves seem ok, I was disappointed that they have to be mounted/tightened via an allen wrench from the inside of the crankarm. This was a deal breaker for me as I have to use pedal extenders. Just wanted to point this out if applicable to your situation. Also, it looks like this is being matched with a suggested pedal wrench which you do not need for these.

Minimum adjustment is too stiff.
These work okay with my cleated MB shoes. However, minimum tension/grasp/hold adjustment is not minimum enough. Also I have to re-adjust them to minimum sometimes.Would I buy these again? Only if I could not find another two-sided SPD pedal.

Love These!
These are GREAT pedals! The different sides make them great for an everyday knock around bike that needs some time for streat shoes or regualr tennis shoes, but also can be used with cleats for more serious riding.

I love these for my commuter bike because they give me ...
Quality product that installs in minutes. I love these for my commuter bike because they give me the option of wearing street shoes (with comfort and no problems with slipping).

Flat shoes or cleats - your choice
Useful pedals that allow you to ride your bike in regular shoes or trainers, or SPD cycling shoes. Flat on one side, with an SPD clip on the other. These aren't going to win any prizes for being lightweight, but it's so good to be able to jump on your bike without needing to change shoes.

Ottimi!
Ottimi su ambo i "lati".
