Excellent
Do not listen to the reviews saying this doesn't get hot enough : those are made by people who don't know how this work! Those are cast-iron plates so, just like cast-iron pans, it will take a few minutes of waiting for them to get up to temp. For sure if you, on top, add a cast-iron pan... it will take a long time. I've had the best results with a ceramic-coated pan. The bigger side will be better for searing and boiling water. It will take min. 5 minutes to get to temp for searing a steak properly carmelized and about 10 min. for boiling water. That's how it's supposed to work; nothing about it is defective or underpowered. It's 10x times better than any electric spiral element.

Works great
This little double burner works great, used it for a couple of weeks while my oven/range was being worked on it it did the job really good. Was able to cook on it every day, various thing like spaghetti sauce, pork chops, mashed potatoes...etc. Heat output is more than adequate to cook pretty much anything. It's easy to setup and cleanup is quick and easy as well. It feels very strudy with the cast iron burners and the control knobs worked very well. Overall it seems to be very well made. If you need some extra burners or have a range breakdown like I did, this one is highly recommended.

4 years later - VERY well worth the purchase!
It's been FOUR YEARS since I bought this and I HAVE to up-date! Do NOT hesitate to purchase this! Don't bother to look else-where! For 4 years I haven't used the stove at all because this little gem cooks everything from pot roasts through stews, soups, fried foods, pancakes, eggs, absolutely EVERY-THING! And I've noticed a MAJOR difference in my utility bills since I've used it. It cooks as well (and almost as quickly) as the stove but using a LOT LESS power! CUISINART REALLY out-did themselves with this item! I've NEVER been moved to actually WANT to let people know about a truly GREAT item, but I can't resist this time. BUY! With confidence! Less expensive will be "cheaper" in quality and I don't think ANYTHING can beat this! 4 years and it works as well as it did right out of the box! Easy to clean, maintain. Yes, the top does get hot so be careful of that. And my ONLY disappointment is that it does scratch easily. Hopefully CUISINART has done something about that. But other-wise... a truly remarkable appliance that has served for 4 years... and with DAILY use! (Original Review) I've waited 8 months before reviewing because I wanted to be sure this was worth the purchase and IT IS! Because I rent from a landlord who knows the stove supplied doesn't work & refuses to replace it, I bought this, hoping to be able to use it for every day cooking. I didn't expect much from it but today, I can say that I've cooked complete meals including pot roasts, soups, deep fried foods & the likes (mostly on the larger of the 2 burners). Yes, it takes a few minutes longer than the stove to heat, & it's best to use covered pots, cooking time takes mere minutes longer, but the convenience and the reduction in my electric bills have MORE than paid for it. I'd originally tried to save by purchasing a "sound-alike" brand, and that didn't last through the first use. So the extra money spent has been more than worth the investment. I just wish Cuisinart hadn't surrendered to the "Made In" because the difference in quality is noticeable. But other-wise, I can say that, this being all that's available, it IS worth the investment. Just be sure to watch for "boil-overs" as these can make a bit of a difficult clean-up on the burners. But with regular care, mine looks today, as good as it did when it came out of the box!

It cooks
Good burner. Seems more reliable than other brands, certainly the conduction versions. Really good paper on the main element. Much more even heating than anything else Iโve used. Only complaint is rust. Is a bit of a pain to keep the element top seasoned. If you leave a pan on it you need to make sure itโs completely dry or it will rust overnight.
