But my 4, 5, and 6 year old grandkids also enjoyed pouring over the details in the illustrations. The artwork is charming and encourages children to find objects they see in their every day lives in England. Wonderful book
My kids & i loved this becsuse we also read stories featuring the characters in the book. I question how many kids have those stories read to them(?) but the book is lovely even if tye child does not know the background of the featured characters.

Fun for Baby; Engaging Artistic Detail for Adults
I have raised four children and bought books for numerous nieces, nephews, and greats. Now my first grandchild is on the way, and rather than ask anyone to relinquish their childhood treasure (originally only available as a regular book), I decided to order another. Here's the thing: you never know which book will turn into THAT book ("Read it again!") Don't burden yourself with an insipid children's book that will make you want to scream when you have to read it multiple times, or every single night. And that's the magic here. There's a peek-a-boo feature (a die cut in one page showing something on the following page), but there's also a richly detailed setting. For a long time, you will be finding new things on the page that you missed before. On top of that, we have an historical element, because the father wears a service uniform that I am guessing is WWII UK. There's a victory garden out back of the baby's home. There is so much here...and babies love it, love it, love it.

Peek-A-Boo" by Jant & Allen Ahlberg
I just received a Viking 1981 larger edition of this book. Part of the charm the Ahlberg authors are known for is their wording, but it's been omitted. It has different words, and far less words than the 'look inside' version Amazon shows. This newer larger size edition leaves the story up to the imagination of the reader. In the original editions I saw (which were smaller), the detailed illustrations are the same, but the wording also lets us know to look for and explains certain specific things in a rhyming delightful sing song way. If I order again, I might get the same copy without the endearing descriptions of a family going about their day, in a time past. The small version gets 5 stars, the larger newer watered down version gets 3. Amazon lists this as the Miniature Edition, so that might make the difference- buy the minature edition not the regular or large size.

Our favorite book
This is my 2 year old son's absolute favorite book. The rhymes are lovely and he loves how the "teddy and ball" are repeated through out the book. The pictures are fun to look at, we notice something new every time we read it. I have found that adults enjoy looking at the pictures as well. It appears to be England during WWII? As far as the quality of the book itself, it is a bit thinner board than other board books we own, especially the cover.
