Made ugly....Beautiful!
Worked great on the Polartec Alpha Direct clothing that I bought but hated the color of. Opens things up for what you really want but only comes in ugly colors -- if it's not too dark a color but fairly light. I've done this with blue as well. Follow the directions assiduously - meaning lots of water, lots of heat, lots of time and out of the house - it smells strong but not actually offensive to me.

My top looks BETTER then new!!!
My favorite top, this exact shade of green had dramatically faded in the 15 years I've loved and worn it. When I realized, it wasn't pure cotton, I went looking and found this BRILLIANT dye. Top looks BETTER then new, colour's is so vivid and even Will look no further, when next I need a dye to revitalize anything with poly in it's fabric

No for everyone
Easy to use but when I tried to dye a 90% polyester shirt green, it came out just as white as when it went in

Dyes wigs, but not in advertised shades
I purchased this dye in Kelly Green for a cosplay wig. The advertised color on the packaging matches the character I am cosplaying perfectly, and I was disappointed to find that the true color when placed upon white synthetic wig fibers is much darker and bluer than anticipated. I purchased white wig swatches for this exact purpose of testing before dipping the full wig in, and I’m very glad I did! The color is a beautiful green, of course, but it is not what I thought it would be. I have 3 years of dyeing wigs for cosplay and this was my first time using iDye brand specifically. For the meantime, I will go back to using Rit DyeMore and their color chart for my projects until I can swatch every iDye color and determine how off the colors may be.

Defies expectation!
So I love my sofa but it was a freebie and the colour, though lovely, isn’t me. I’d been thinking of re-covering it but it’s a great fabric and I thought if only I could just dye it… I’m no stranger to dyeing natural fibres but I’ve always seen synthetics as beyond my reach so I looked into those fabric paints you can buy that people often use to change the colour of chairs and sofas, but the finish always looks patchy and it takes forever and multiple coats, etc, I didn’t fancy that. So I decided to try experimenting with synthetic dyes. The manufacturer stresses that for it to work your dye bath needs to be at near boiling temperatures for a prolonged period for the dye to bond with polyester, I think you’re essentially melting the dye into the plastic fibres. It’s strongly advised that use a stovetop method, however these are big pieces of fabric and I don’t have pots that big enough. There’s a 90* wash on my machine though so I figured it was worth a bash for £7. It was an agonising two and a half hours excitedly waiting to see if the dye would take but I am thrilled to report that it did. It was as easy as putting a wash cycle on, the dye is in powder form and comes in a soluble packet so I chucked that in the drum, emptied the contents of the colour activator in with it and a tiny squirt of washing up liquid just to help get the dye into the pile of the velvet. It did dye some of the plastic elements in the drum and I wouldn’t advise putting the dye in your detergent drawer as this might also change colour. But if I understand correctly that dye shouldn’t leach out, it’s now permanently bonded with the plastic so no drama there. I can’t say how durable it is in practice but based on that premise it should last just as well as whatever the original colour was. This is not for the faint hearted but if you’re open to the possibility it might not work out go for it! I’m ordering more now and will have to tackle removing the fixed upholstery from my sofa so that I can repeat the process for the whole thing. Think it all through before you set out, be prepared for what could go wrong and might just end up with something beautiful!
