We were a bit skeptical about having a Hive thermostat fitted as we normally used a stand alone thermostat. We were tired of coming home or from holiday to a freezing cold house so we opted for the Hive. It is the best thing we have done as it is so easy to use and set either with the remote itself or with our phones. When we are coming home we set the temperature on the Hive app on our phones and walk into a warm house. Also setting the thermostat whilst we are in and the heating only kicks in when it drops below the set temperature. One of our neighbors installed the system and it took about 1 hour. I'm sure we have saved on our energy bills so installing the Hive as been good value for money.

I moved into a New Build a few years ago and the house came with a simple Thermostat so one of my first decisions was to replace it with a new Hive heating system. I decided to install this myself, and what it revealed was that my existing thermostat was installed incorrectly. Although the installation was a little fiddly for someone with large fingers, I got it done in the end, and now I have a smart thermostat that is easy to set up, easy to control from anywhere on planet earth, and integrates with my Apple Home system which is an important part of my smart home. Hive is easy to use, and makes it really easy to boost heating - sometimes it helps for complicated technology to be simple. Hive looks great on your wall, and is solid meaning it should last a long time.

I got this for a rental property I have as the previous thermostat went south. Got this on recommendation form my Builder and now getting one for my own house. It is fantastic to be able to control the temp from your phone. I have heard a few people say they are hard to setup which in my experience is crap as I had internet issues while setting up and I managed to do it in about 30 minutes. Really simple (even better with a decent internet connection) people having issues must not know the basics of how networks "network". Updating this since I now have it setup in my own home. Must say that this secondary install did not go as smoothly as the first as the hub lost all connection after about 2 hours and ending up nothing working. It was a simple solution but the help section for HIVE is somewhat lacking and simple answers are hard to find and it would also help to explain how these elements talk to one another. Anyway once I had reset everything and positioned the hub into a place it could communicate with both receiver and Thermostat its now golden and working well. 2 tips. The hub does NOT need to plugged directly into your router you can either setup a wired hub via cat cable or do what I did and plug it into a wifi extender (not that the green light is connected to a network not connected to internet and HIVE servers which is really helpful!) if you have issues switch the hub off, remove batteries from thermostat, reset the receiver to pairing mode by pressing the manual override (on) button until it flashes double amber then do a factory reset n thermostat (hold menu and back button until timer reaches 0) and then plug in the hub back in this should repair everything and get you up and running. It loses a star as the help pages are very limited and simple questions are not answered, it took me an age to find how you set the receiver back to pairing mode and discovered the hub didn't need plugged directly to my router by trial and error (all guides say direct to router this is wrong as I have mine working 100% via a Wi-Fi extender). So brilliant product one its fully configured they just need better quality support pages.

The best thermostat. Wanted a smart thermostat that didn't require a subscription, wasn't prone to updates, pay walls etc. This ticks all my boxes. You can turn on, adjust or turn off the heating remotely, it knows when you are out and won't heat an empty home, it also knows when your getting closer to home to then put the heating on, love it. App is easy to use. One thing to mention, get hive to install it as they are the cheapest, contacted a few other heating installers who quoted a lot more

I’m giving this five stars so people actually see this review, because if you’re considering Hive, you deserve the truth. This system goes offline around 15–20 times a year. Not once. Not twice. Regularly. When it does, getting it back online is not a quick fix. I’m a technician, and even with technical knowledge it typically takes 30 to 45 minutes of power cycling, resets, re-pairing, and general trial-and-error to bring it back. For a consumer “smart” heating system, that’s completely unacceptable. Technical support is effectively useless. You get basic script-reading, generic advice that doesn’t solve the root problem, and documentation that doesn’t reflect real-world failure modes. When it breaks (and it will), you’re on your own. As a product, I genuinely wish I’d never bought it. Multiple family members who also own Hive systems feel exactly the same way. Everyone I speak to about it — including plumbers and heating engineers — consistently tells me the same thing: hive is unreliable and hive causes ongoing headaches. If you enjoy babysitting your heating system, spending chunks of your life getting it back online, and dealing with a platform that regularly disconnects for no clear reason, then Hive might be for you. If you want a heating system that just works, look elsewhere.

The product is elegant and versatile, and offers the choice of controlling the heating remotely from the Hive app or directly using the thermostat itself. However, the installation was extremely difficult and the troubleshooting instructions in the manual online were diabolical. It took me half a day of searching the internet before I found a youtube video from an independent plumber that explained what I needed to do to effectively pair the three components in the box (hub,thermostat and receiver on the boiler). This required a heinously complex 14 step rocess of removing batteries from the thermstat, pressing and holding buttons on the receiver, observing various colours of flashing light sequences in order to factory reset the receiver, re-inserting batteries in the thermostat, initiating a pairing process, which forces you to go through a welcome sequence before it pairs the thermostat, open the app, add a new heating zone, wait 50 minutes for it to connect to the thermostat (if you're lucky). The app is also prone to losing connectivity with the thermostat from time to time, with the message 'thermostat 1 offline'. The heating still works though. It's just an annoying glitch. Finally, when the hub updates it's software it hogs all of the internet bandwidth. We were unable to watch TV one evening shortly after installation of the Hive system. I know it was the hive hub, because I disconnected its power and miraculously the TV started streaming just fine. Why can't Hive schedule updates overnight like most other software companies. So in summary, it works.... Do I love it? No it's a pain in the backside and if I hadn't already thrown all the packaging away I would have sent it back.
