My dog has longterm damage to three discs in her back from an old injury. Occasionally, she overdoes it or tweaks her back and in the course of a couple weeks, goes from relatively normal (we don't let her run or jump anymore as they exacerbate her injury - she's a 12 yo pittie) to practically unable to walk, stumbling, knuckling, falling, etc. We have been through multiple rounds of rehabilitation/therapy/crate rest/chiropractors/neurologists/various vets/etc. What has helped her the most is to immediately upon signs of a bad regression is to wear this brace during waking hours (especially any time she's moving about) in conjunction with hydrotherapy. It was recommended to us by her vet and has been complimented by several specialists that have seen her for being high quality and holding her in the correct position. Without the brace, she can barely stand without losing her back end, but with the brace, she can move about and it helps her maintain a semi-normal stance with her back straight and her legs under her.Honestly, I think as a worrier by nature, I had a harder time adjusting to it than she did. It looks uncomfortable. It's stiff and the leg straps look like they squeeze between her back legs. Other than some sniffing/scratching/licking the first couple days and taking a few days to learn how to move/get up/lay down comfortably in it, she has actually adjusted to it just fine and lets me put it on and take it off with no issue. I think it makes her feel better and gives her some freedom. So, to anyone that's just gotten it and feels like maybe you're punishing your dog by making them wear it, I urge you to give it a little time and really see if it's just perception or if it actually bothers them. I'm sure it's not for everyone, but once I personally quit resisting it and just started putting it on her at the first sign of trouble, we took a major step forward in getting her back issues under control. Of course, using something like this is best done under vet supervision.My only real complaint is the leg straps. The velcro wants to catch around the little loops that hold them up. I have found it easier to not take the straps out of the loops, but merely loosen them and help her pull her legs through one at a time. Overall, a worthwhile product and for my baby, it has made a big difference!

I am no vet, but my 18-yr old dog has 2 pinched nerves along his backbone that makes it hard for him to control his back legs, so sometimes on our hardwood floors he ends up spread eagled, which has to hurt. I think this "vest" holds his backbone in place, so the nerves don't get pinched. He walks better with it on. It doesn't hold his legs in from sprawling on a hardwood floor, but somehow the backbone support makes that not happen.

I bought for my dog with Ivvd. My dog wouldn't even try to walk in this,so I'm not using this brace but it is well made .One thing to consider is that some dogs will not walk in clothing are things on their body. Especially small dogs. If they won't wear clothing some likely they won't wear this brace. I like it I wish she would wear it.

The product helps my senior German Shepard walk better. But the quality is lacking. I had it for little over a month and there is already a hole along the back. Disappointing for the amount paid.

I initially ordered an XL for my dog as he is 17 inches long from the crease of his neck to the literal base of his tail. XL was way too long so I had to return for a L. The L fits perfect! If your dog is in between sizes the measurement I would worry about the most is the back measurement. And instead of going all the way to the literal base of the tail I would go to about the hips. The length of the back on the L is 15.5 inches. Back is the most important part of the harness to make sure it fits- if it’s too long it will not offer proper support for your dog and they will not be able to walk properly in it. The rest of the back brace is adjustable enough to fit everywhere else as long as the back length is correct. It DEFINITELY helps my dog be able to walk. Without it he has a “drunken back end” and will severely lean to the left/drag his back legs. This brace helps him be able to walk normally- not perfectly but WAY better than without and I like that he can stay mobile while his back heals so his leg muscles don’t atrophy. The “bones” in the back brace are also made of plastic which is a huge bonus for us because that means I can take him to the beach on calm days for some hydrotherapy relief on his spine- If the “bones” that keep the back brace sturdy were made of metal they would rust from the salt water.

This is a very well-made brace! And the seller shipped quickly!! Sadly - it just didn't fit properly on my GSD from neck crease to base of spine. This item was returned, but I would still recommend this brace and this seller for anyone looking for a supportive brace for their dog.

I purchased this after checking the size chart, but it didn’t fit my dog well. Each time we tried to put it on, the back area would shift and cause discomfort, especially when my dog needed to go to the bathroom. Because of that, we had to stop using it. It just wasn't practical for us.

OMG thrilled with this product. The sizing info is perfect. The adjustments you can make are amazing. I dud not even have to look at the instructions to put on my baby. I just received this a few hours ago and can see a big different. Highly recommend.
