Nice Sized Composter that Works Great
Prior to the Full Circle Compost Collector, I would use a large plastic container to stuff compost into. It was inconvenient, attracted knats/flies, and left a mess in the container every time I dumped it. After doing this for awhile, I finally caved in and decided to look for a compost collector to make composting โmore convenientโ. After a lot of research, this composter seemed to be the best buy. Having not used any other composters, I canโt compare this composter to others, but I can share the upsides and downsides in my experience: UPSIDES (Pros) - Single button push releases lid, which has a spring to throw it open for quick access. - The air flow is nice and combined with the bags, help control odor/knats. - Itโs not small like the container I used before, so I can go several days before having to remove the bag. - Because it uses bio-degradable bags, the unit stays fairly clean. DOWNSIDES (Cons) - Have to buy bags (but it also makes for easy transport to compost recycling bin). - The bags that come with the unit are OK, but a bit on the flimsy side. I use BioBags (3 Gallon Bags). The bags that come with the unit are only 2.5 Gallon and not as tough. - Difficult to wash by hand. CONSIDERATIONS - Check to make sure that your recycling center accepts meat bones/scraps and dairy products before using it for that. - Buy better bags than the unit came with. I have found the 3 Gallon BioBags to work best. Plenty big for unit. - You must use biodegradable bags with this unit. You can not use it without bags. IMPROVEMENTS IโD LIKE TO SEE - Better method of holding the bio-degradable bags. While the bar does a good job of holding the bag, it can sometimes be hard to work with. OTHER This is the second unit I bought. With the first one, the spring that helps open the lid broke after one year of use. But I love the Full Circle Compost Collector so much that I didnโt hesitate to buy another one. However, if the spring in this one gives out within a year, then Iโll be forced to change my ranking. But for now, it is definitely a great 5-star composting bin in my eyes. Good luck and happy composting! Thanks for thinking of the environment. Iโll update any further experiences with this composter as needed.

Best compost option on a small scale
Buy this product! We used to keep all of my compost in the freezer, which not only took up space but made it very unappetizing to store my food in there too. However, I do like the idea of compost and recycling as much as you can and giving it back to the environment. This has been a lifesaver. Itโs easy to use, it doesnโt look terrible on the counter or in the sink or over the refrigerator, it doesnโt smell... it does need to be taken out about every week to week or week and a half you donโt have a lot of compost. If it remains closed thereโs virtually no smell and there is NO fruit flys either!!! The bags are Biodegradable and very durable which is great and Esau. Itโs replacement bags are not expensive to rebuy and over all work well, I havenโt had a problem with them breaking when I am taking out the compost. I loved it so much that I have recently bought one for my mom and Iโm planning to buy one for my mother-in-law and maybe even my sister-in-laws; Iโve told everyone about this product and how easy it Makes composting.

HUGE size!
My old countertop composting bin had finally had it, so I set out to find a replacement. I originally thought I wanted one with a "filter" like my old one, but when I found the Full Circle Fresh Air I thought I would give it a try. It arrived SUPER fast under standard shipping (I ordered it on a Thursday morning and even though it wasn't "estimated" to arrive until the following Tuesday, I was happily surprised to find it on my doorstep on Saturday morning!) It's made out of a thick, sturdy plastic with a metal bar on the inside to hold in the composting bags in place (more on that later.) It's quite a bit larger than my previous bin, but that's the part I like the most! We keep ours on the countertop, it doesn't really bother me since this is where the old one lived for almost 2 years. It's a little bit larger than a toaster, so not too obtrusive in my opinion. So far I haven't had any problems with smell or fruit flies. The lid doesn't snap shut 100% sealed, so I can see where fruit flies might get in. But hey, you're leaving fruit and veggie peelings out for a week, a bug or two is to be expected! The lid opens nice and smoothly, although I'm anxious to see how long the close tab lasts. It appears to be be pretty sturdy, but I can see where it might eventually break off. The only downfall is that you HAVE to use the compost bags with this unit because of the gap at the bottom for the "fresh air." With my old compost bin I never bothered with the bags, just rinsed it out with a little bleach water each time I emptied it. I'm sure using the bags will prolong its life and I'm glad that there are compostable "eco-friendly" ones out there, but this would have been nice to know before I bought this particular bin. The metal bar does hold the bags in nicely and it doesn't seem to be slipping or anything. All in all I think it's a great product. If you're looking for a LARGE capacity compost bin, this is your guy! If you don't want to bother with bags, then I suggest you keep looking.

We compost a lot, and this is a pretty perfect countertop size
Edit: Like 7 years later, and we still use this thing every single day. The lid has started to split a bit, but it hasn't compromised the utility of the thing. And some super glue will fix that if it becomes necessary. We've been through thousands of compostable bags. We wash all the parts in the dishwasher. It's an excellent countertop receptacle. If only I could teach my in-laws how to properly separate compost, recyclables, and trash. This is a really good size and a great design. Looks good on my counter. Easy to use. Comes apart to clean easily. I like the bar that locks a bag into place. All in all, this is much better than the stainless bowl with plastic lid that I've been using for years. I empty it every day or two when it gets full, and there has really been no smell, even though I throw everything in compost, including meat and dairy and all sorts of gross things. Even put a dead fish in there recently. I was skeptical because it doesn't seal tight, but I'm well convinced now.

Perfect: aesthetic, clean and convenient
I really love this composter. And I never imagined I'd be spending half an hour posting a laudatory review about it on Amazon, but here we are. I have had several experiences with composting. In my childhood home, we had a large backyard and a compost pit at the end of it. We could collect food in a plastic box near the sink, and would have to dump it every day because it would breakdown, smell, etc.. We didn't use a lid on the plastic container, but I later found out that it makes little difference, or perhaps the lid makes the fermentation worst (apparently anaerobic fermentation is notorious for producing noxious smells -- of the kind that attract fruit flies). Later, I learned other methods; someone I visited in San Francisco would collect compost in a container placed in the freezer, but this is not very convenient at all (taking your receptacle in and out of the freezer), and you need a large enough freezer. All of these experiences came to mind when my apartment complex finally got curb-side compost pick-up. I am glad I went for this composter (which, yes, assumes you are either going to throw the waste in a backyard compost pit, or in a organic waste trash can -- this will not turn your food into actual compost): - The opening mechanism is really great: you press the button, and the lid pops up wide open, and then can be shut with a nice satisfying click. - The lining mechanism is great too, and ensures the collection bag is neatly tucked and not visible. - There is no smell. None. - It's not an eyesore. - For moderate cooking, you can get away with emptying this every 2 or 3 day easily. Here are a few tips: - The air circulation feature is not a silver bullet. Yes, it will prevent the build up that generally attract insects, but you still have got to use common sense. I never had trouble (during the summer, in June, July and now soon August 2016) with fruit flies, except when I was dumb and put a couple decently ripe peaches out. Both the peaches in the fruit bowl, and later their remains in the composter, brought with them a plethora of fruit flies (fortunately these BEAPCO Fruit Fly Traps expedite them in short-order -- highly recommended!). So use your brain! - Same common sense prevails with regards to bag break down. The bags they provide are useless, but it is easy enough to get a 3-pack of BioBag , which fit perfectly. These are robust, but can get pierced very easily if you throw anything acidic: for instance, a lemon will burn right through the bag. My solution is to make sure I throw these types of things either nicely in the center, or I put the lemon rind on a piece of paper towel. - If you repeatedly have trouble with the bottom falling out, I recommend lining the bottom with a paper towel (it doesn't have to be wasteful, it could be a paper towel you used for something). Overall, I am very happy I got this.

Perfect
My husband and I have been composting for several years now, starting shortly after we bought a house and planted our first vegetable garden. And in the several years we have been gardening, this is my 3rd pail. The first pail I bought from Amazon. It was one the typical round cannisters with a lid that had holes and a filter. The lid didn't fit straight out of the box. You had to fight to get it off and then nearly pound it with a hammer to get it back on. Wasn't worth the trouble. We tried using it without the lid, but didn't care for it and eventually it was repurposed to collecting my plant scraps when I tidied up all 25 of my house plants. Works great for that. I think we tossed the lid. Second pail I bought from gardener's on recommendation from a friend. We bought a nice large oval-shaped galvanized steal pail. Lid fit great, came off easily, no filters to deal with or buy, no bags to worry about. Worked great for 2 years. The only real issue we had is, since there is just the two of use, and despiste lots of tea drinking and lots of fresh vegetables and fruit consumption, it took us around 2 weeks to fill the pail. And as I later learned, due to the lack of holes and the lid fitting snuggly, it was a perfect environment for anaerobic breakdown, which smells terrible - think rotting vomit, and is bad for compost. The terrible stench had to be dealt with every time it was emptied. Well one Sunday morning, we woke up and the contents of the pail had eaten a hole through the steal bottom and leaked brown, viscous fluid all over the cupboard under the sink. It took cleaning it up, cleaning the area twice, and spraying a tea tree oil/water mixture over the area several times for the smell to eventually disappate. It was very much "What an incredible smell you've discovered" scenario. So, not wanting to have to deal with having to replace a pail again after a few years, I did some research, found a wonderful site that listed 10 features/qualities that should be considered before purchasing a compost pail. This one easily qualified for all of them except the handle - but with using bags - isn't an issue. My husband was first opposed to the thought of having to deal with bags as it was another consumable we would have to purchase, would end up costing more than just using a pail with air holes that didn't need bags, but once I pointed out that I would be able to finally empty the compost, he was suddenly on board with the purchase. Out house is built into the side of a steep hill, so everything in the yard needs to be leveled with concrete blocks - which places the top of our Aerobin over my head - making it impossible for me to lift the lid and turn a bucket upside down while trying to keep from wearing any of the contents. With a bag I can just swing it up and in - no problems. I liked that the pail is made from recylced materials. I like the simple design. I like the simple, mild colors. I bout theh green slate one and while we keep ours under the sink as I hate things on my counter, I think it would look fine on a counter if you have the space and prefer to store one there. I LOVE the push button that opens the lid. No more having to pull off a lid, place it somewhere, and hope there is nothing on it to grunge up the counter. The design is straightforward and simple. One reviewer was correct, it is essentialy a glorified compost bag holder, but it does its job perfectly. There is a steal bar that holds the bag securely so you don't have to worry about trying to tie knots to hold the bag in place. There are air vents on the sides inside and along the bottom and and small holes peppering the top. The lid opens with a quick push of the button and closes with a reassuring click. The bags that came with the pail are very nice and a little thicker than the BioBag 3 Gallon bags I bought along with it. The company recommends changing the bags every 3-5 days due to breakdown of the bags and so I just set a reminder on my phone to take care of the compost every 5 days to keep any accidents from happening. The bag is usually full enough by then to warrant tossing. No smell. No leaks. No bugs, though it is winter and with a newer house, I rarely see a bug anyway. But the lack of smell is a delightful change. And with using a bag, everything is nicely contained and hands stay clean as well as the pail. An added bonus is that the whole thing is dishwasher safe. So when it eventually becomes grungy or a bag somehow breaks, just take the pail apart and toss in the dishwasher. I would highly recommend this pail to anyone looking for one. Ease of use and design far outweigh the miniscule hassle of having to buy compost bags and the small cost that goes with them. And with the 4 pack of the BioBag Compost Bags that Amazon sells, you only need to buy bags once a year to every 18 months depending on how often you change bags.

This has lasted us almost 3 years!
This is the BEST compost bin I have ever owned. There is no smell, there are no bugs crawling in and out and it is easy to empty. The bags don't last forever. You do need to change them, or they will leak. They are compostable after all. A good pray with the kitchen sprayer and your good though. It is tricky to figure out how to put the bags in at first but after almost 3 years we have that down lol. I am returning to by another as our first one is hard to close. That is all just hard to close. It pops open and looks like it may not close one day soon. Glad they still sell them here. I have the bags on subscription, so I don't have to keep track of that!

GREAT kitchen compost bin!
I've been looking for a long time for the perfect kitchen compost bin - found it!! First of all, it looks great! (I got the green slate model and even though I keep it under my sink...I would totally consider having it on my countertop). The lid is attached so even one-handed you can just touch the 'open' tab and the lid gently lifts up, you dump your stuff and push it shut! no more fuddling with detached lids (like my old bins) and dropping things and making a mess. The green bag inserts make it super easy to empty! the bags hold tight with a metal slip system (also great), so just lift up, pull the bag out and pitch it into the backyard composter. again, no mess! The 'fresh air' design is fabulous...NO smell, NO fruit flies, nuthin! yeah, it's definitely one of the pricier ones, but SOOO worth it! I'm so glad I got this one. very highly recommend it!

Reliably eliminate kitchen compost bin odor
Having used the unit for more than 5 years, it still is our favorite kitchen compost bin, its modular approach makes it super easy to clean, the metal ring holds the bag in place, the lid also provides airflow to avoid odor. I have not personally encountered the poor quality noted in some reviews. Clips, lid, and all associated parts are very sturdy and still works like new.

Best compost bin Ever!
Very well designed to allow easy deposition of kitchen waste. Push button is fantastic. I use compostable bin liners making it easy to empty the bin. So much better than non push button bins
