Shockingly freakishly good dash mount: HOW DOES THIS EVEN WORK???
This is the most amazing usable inexpensive simple wonderous dash-mount ever invented by any culture in any age. I'm being 100% sincere. I have the oddly heavy TomTom XXL 540TM 5-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator, a Toyota Highlander with their signature misshapen and oddly textured dashboard and I am a shockingly terrible driver. I'm not proud of this fact, but I feel that you need to understand how truly bad a driver I actually am to appreciate how truly superior and ingenious this dash mount is. Allow me to explain. I gun my car violently when the light changes because, one, it makes me feel like a super bad race-car driver, (woo woo!) and two, because I don't want to lose to the guy in the '91 Honda with the bumper duct-taped on in the lane next to me. (Can I get a shout out from other people who know this feeling?? I'M NOT LOSING TO YOU 18 YEAR OLD TAPED CAR DRIVER!!) As an added bonus, this rocket-like propulsion ensures that I will get the worst possible gas mileage possible. I'm close to Hummer territory here and I drive a flipping Toyota. That bad. It is said that the brakes on my car are very good so I take every opportunity possible to make sure I test them by using them suddenly and often randomly when I think I see a mammal or leaf or bag or shadow crossing the road. I tend to steer in the direction in which my eyes go so help all or any passengers if there's anything interesting to either side of me. Lots of interesting stuff to see on the roads here in Los Angeles; shops, the ocean, sofas and settees fallen from trucks on the freeway. I could go on, but it's getting to the point where a local chapter of feminists have petitioned me to undergo a gender reassignment so I'll stop reenforcing stereotypes about terrible women drivers.** **Only this part is untrue. This is Los Angeles, feminists don't live here, they all live in San Francisco and judge my terrible driving from afar. My husband will deny all claims besmirching his driving prowess, but his testing of this mount is equally strict and frequent as he tends to see curbs as challenges rather than impediments. For the sake of nuptial bliss, I will refrain from further comment on that topic, a subject he vehemently and yet unconvincingly denies and get on with my review. I had used a stick-to-the-dash type of holder before with no big issue until the sticky wore off rendering it useless and I had to look for a new dash holder. The old type of mount left the sticky residue on my bumpy dash after it fell off. Tres unchic, and as you surely can infer from my driving a mid-size Toyota, I am ALL ABOUT the chic and visual aesthetics are a foremost concern. Speaking of aesthetics I would be remiss if I didn't mention that this mount resembles a black beanbag chair you might find in the apartment of a very midcentury modern guinea pig. This in no way is to be taken as a slight. It is what it is. I came across this dash mount here on Amazon and couldn't understand just from what was written how this actually "stuck" to the dash (what is this "friction magic" of which you speak??) and had even less faith it would work with my stupid heavy Tomtom, my slalom rapid-fire kamikaze driving and my odd misshapen dash. Even after using this mount for over half a year, I cannot tell you what mysterious sorcery keeps the sand-sackesque mount on my dash, but it really truly actually works. It has yet to fall off ever. Seriously. Even with all my unnecessarily sharp lane changes, my dime stops, and my F1-like squealing starts; this miracle mount stays on. And then you can just lift it off when you arrive at your destination leaving no sticky residue, absolutely no hassle, and no people targeting your sweet ride because of your mad hardware. (You fellow Toyota owners will understand this fear of being targeted for the sweetness of your ride and hardware.) I will only ever use this type of dash-mount again, but since there are no breakable parts, I will never ever need to replace it ever for anything. I want to buy these for everybody everywhere. More Surperlatives! I did also buy a separate arm mount to use with this because other reviewers pointed out a lack of depth in this mount with their unit. Using this, ARKON TTEP115 TomTom EasyPort Windshield / Dash Mount the Tomtom peeks over the end of this mystical magic mount and the combination works perfectly.

It WORKS!!!!!
This GPS DASH is exactly what I needed and the third device I have tried. This device sits securely without movement on my dashboard of a 2003 Matrix with horizontal vents. Rita

Perfect, Stylish beanbag base for mounting cell phone in car
EVO 4G owners... buy the cradle/mount that I reviewed (Arkon Universal Windshield with Dashboard and Vent Mount for Smartphones and PDAs) and then buy this to form the ultimate EVO 4G car mount I will say, I don't trust ANY suction cup to stick to a windshield or any vent clip to stick to a vent so I bought this beanbag to stick the suction cup of my mount to. Again... I'm not saying that suction cups or vent clips are untrsutworthy, but simply that I PERSONALLY do not trust my $400 baby to hang off the winsdhield or vent by a suction cup or two little plastic clips - no matter what the product. I bought the above mentioned friction pad/sandbag/beanbag/whatever-you-wish-to-call-it because I wanted to create a sturdy, non-moveable base to suction cup the cradle/mount to. I live in MN, it's been like 20 degrees here for 2 weeks and that suction cup has not let go on the beanbag mount yet... still rock solid and YES I keep the whole setup in the car at all times (so it gets cold, warm, cold, warm) I bought some super glue just in case I wanted to form a perfect seal between the beanbag and this cradle/mount but alas, I haven't a need to open it... that suction cup stays like magic to the beanbag base. So... - Thing is rock-solid grippy... weighs like 3 pounds which seems like nothing but when it's only job is to ensure that a device that is weighed in OUNCES doesn't move - it's a ton. To put it another way... think of a deck of playing cards and a paper clip; neither are that "heavy" but compared to each other the deck of cards outweighs the paper clip by a TON. Now imagine mounting the paper clip to the deck of cards - it isn't going anywhere. That's how it is with this beanbag and a suction cup mount... this 2-3 pound bag (with it's rubber bottom - described below) might as well be a cinder block with how sturdy it feels/grips - Rubberized bottom is like super glue - honestly, the thing weighs 2-3 pounds on it's own but applying that weight to a rubberized surface is a double-security guarantee. Think of your shoes - the rubber on the bottom is grippy on it's own, but apply your body weight on top of that grip and the traction is like quadrupled - same effect here. Rubber is grippy on it's own, add a few pounds of weight ontop of that rubbery/grippy foot and you've got a traction beast. I don't drive crazy or anything, but let's just say that I don't feel that I have to instinctually reach my hand out to ensure my EVO doesn't slide around the dash when I'm making a turn or a quick stop.

Works wonder
This GPS dash pad is versatile and great. I was afraid to purchase this after reading the negative reviews by some customers, but I'm glad I decided to purchase it because it does work, and works great. The pad consists of three portions, a middle smooth plastic center, a bean bag outer portion, and a non slip lining on the bottom. The center is used to attached the suction cup mount on GPS units and it holds the mount thanks to its smooth plastic. The non slip bottom lining helps the pad from slipping and the bean bag outer portion weighs the unit down. It works just like the official Garmin pad if not better. I chose the circular design of this pad as oppose to the Garmin's legged design because I put my GPS unit underneath my center console as oppose to the top dashboard. Because of the large circular footprint, the unit places right over my two cup holders with ease. I was worried that the Garmin unit wouldn't be able to balance itself due to the 4 legged design. I also tested the pad both on the top and bottom of my car and the pad didn't have any problems at maintaining its position. It was also very simple to store away, I basically either leave it at my bottom center console or slip it under my seat. It's simple to use, works as stated, super versatile thanks to its wide footprint, and at half the cost of the Garmin mount I would definitely recommend this unit to anyone.

Great phone mount alternative!
Nice quality, holds phone mount and easy to move and relocate as needed without having to risk damaging dash by sticking something directly to it.

Absolutely brilliant!!! Our new sat nav is bigger than our last one, and the mount is taller, making it top-heavy. The dashboard mat, which worked like a dream with our old sat nav, simply couldn't do the job. The new sat nav 'took off' at the first hill combined with a bend - complete with firmly attached mat! Having read hundreds of reviews for all sorts of designs - majority saying dash must be totally flat, which ours isn't - this one sounded hopeful. It is superb! Sat nav sits securely on its nest. Doesn't even wobble, let alone move! One tip - to attach sat nav mount to the centre disc, it needs to be on a firm, flat surface (did mine on kitchen worktop) - or it will come off. Once properly attached, it is incredibly secure - no danger of them parting company (and can be stored as a pair, ready for next time) and the really weighty base ensures it sits like a rock, exactly where it's put. Really prompt delivery and excellent value for money.

Stays in place on dashboard. suction cup sicks well to the base. Suction cup better placed on this mat than on the windscreen

Bought this to replace the mounting disk supplied with the TomTom. Disk worked well for a year then suddenly detached from the dashboard leaving a sticky residue. This base held the TomTom securely and has the added benefit of being transportable between vehicles thereby avoiding having to stick mounting disks to all my vehicles.

We bought one of these last year when we got a Sat Nav,and didnt want to leave any tell tales signs. We also found the fittings we got with the sat nav very fiddly, trying to get it in the right place on the windscreen. We had read about this, and decided to try it,and it is a great invention It sits flat and doesnt slide about You just clip in the sat nav,and place it wherever you want on the dash . We actually have it above the gearstick console and it sits perfectly there ,and we can charge it with the cigar lighter slot while we are travelling.Last year my brother in law was so impressed with it he went and bought one too. When my son got a new car a few weeks ago,and bought a sat nav,we bought this for him,and he is absolutely delighted with it .I can absolutely recommend this for anyone with a sat nav. I can't see anyone using the windscreen sticker when there is something like this on the market. It is well worth the money, and as usual the delivery, packaging etc is excellent. Thanks Amazon, and thanks to the seller.
