MXL 990 Condenser Microphone for Podcasting, Singing, Home Studio Recording, Gaming & Streaming | Blue LED lights | XLR | Large Diaphragm (BLIZZARD)

A bit of background, I used to work in broadcasting (radio) and have been absolutely spoiled by high end broadcast quality mics (Electrovoice mics) I *know* what I should sound like on a mic (how true to real is the sound)For an $80 mic, I was blown away. I sounded true on it when playing back a recording. My husband, who was used to hearing me through my headset mic in games, was blown away when my computer insisted on using the MXL for Discord rather than the headset. He said it was like I was right his office with him. He's now really jealous and wants his own :)The mic is really well tuned for the frequency of human voice, and even the highs of female voices. Its delivering a very true sound. For normal speaking, it's certainly hitting perfectly. It's warm, natural, and full, picking up all the nuances.Better even is the true cardiod of the pickup. I noticed it was picking up very little background noise. We live on a busy street, lots of traffic, 2 blocks from a hospital (ambulance sirens constantly), and 2 miles from a busy airport take off runway (those jets are pretty low when they pass over our house). Now, when I was recording, by a miracle no ambulances or airplanes went by, but I didn't hear the din of traffic. I noticed the faint, and I mean faint, noise of my dog scratching as she sat on the other side of my desk, I could hear her foot hitting the floor. That was it. I've had other mics that picked up absolutely every background sound and you'd swear I was sitting in the middle of the street at rush hour. The MXL picked up me wonderfully, the background? Nope.I highly recommend it for someone wanting to up their game for podcasts and voiceovers. I got a Neweer phantom power and a XLR to USB cable to plug into my laptop. With the scissor boom (I already had) that's all I needed. I would do best with a mixer, but that's off down the road for now.

I have to admit, I bought this mic mainly because it looks sweet with the blue led light.. That being said, recently I produced a song for my brother and we used this mic to track the vocals...sound quality is excellent, build quality is great, and it is very affordable. I'm exited to try it out on some acoustic guitar tracks later ..Don't even think about it, just buy it!!

I do several Podcasts and my daughter decided she wanted to try. I bought her this Mic to get her started and I have to say, I was highly impressed with the sound quality, smooth response, and clarity. The wire color and Blue LED lights as that flare my daughter loves. She sounds great on her podcasts and she loves the looks on video. Get a desk arm for it to give it that professional look.

I've been wanting the blizzard microphone for a couple of years now. I finally pulled the trigger on it and i'm not disappointed.

I have only used it for voice over so far. It has a nice smooth and clear sound for voice over work. I haven't used it for vocals yet

The media could not be loaded. I’m really happy with this microphone it does not have any rolloffs for frequencies or tones. It’s just flat, but I like it anyway. You should get this mic. It is a great little mic that is really well built and functional.

In this head to head, MXL 990 Blizzard against my Neumann tlm 103. It held it's own on a run through amp mic, vocal mic and just a straight up acoustic guitar mic. It held it's own (the MXL 990) until i got to trying more extreme recording techniques. All I can say is it didn't hit all the highs and low frqs as the Neumann, but by goodness it did sound very good. It surprised me for a $90 dollar mic vs. $1000 mic.

Love this mic, for the price, absolutely unreal. Crisp and clear sound. Packaging is wonderful from the factory with protecting foam so no worries about damages. Couldn’t be happier with this purchase!
