disappointed
I have used rare earth magnets for years (neodymium) and have never been anything but happy with them.I built a sort of puzzle box for my daughter and future son in law. It has a false bottom which pulls out the back. Underneath was a check, our contribution to their wedding. There is a hole drilled down the back of the box with a steel rod inside. The rod keeps the false bottom in place. The only way to remove the bottom is to remove the steel rod. You can't dump it out. I wanted a magnet of similar shape to insert into a hole next to it. The magnet would be used to remove the rod. From the description this looked like what I was looking for. Nope, not strong enough. It was still usable, but I had to add a small neodymium magnet out of my inventory (5/16 x 1/8). The price was right, the performance not so much. You may not need a magnet that strong, therefore, make your decision to purchase based on your need. The attached photo shows the rod, the magnet, and the two holes in the box where both were placed. You can see why I needed a strong magnet to overcome the friction in pulling the 6" rod up out of the wood. Again, your need may not be as great.

Disappointed
Disappointed with the strength of the magnet. It would struggle to hold a photo to the refrigerator weak.
