T-Handle for ARE Pickup Truck Camper Shell Door with 2 Keys

Works well, but it would be much better if they listed in the description that it will not fit caps that require the stubby handle to clear the tailgate lip, and better still if they offered that version and linked to it. I couldn't find it on here. My Dad lost the keys to his new cap, and since I couldn't find the key code and this lock was only a couple bucks more than just the keys cut to code, I ordered this. I'd swapped them out before so was expecting an easy swap. Unfortunately the handle was too long. Fortunately thanks to a Youtube video on rebuilding these locks that I remembered from when I had one that was stuck, I was able to swap out the cylinders. If you have a good set of snap ring pliers, it's a pretty easy job. The obly issue I had was it was working hard after the swap, but it was because I had used the new back with the old front/handle part. Once I switched the backs, it worked great. The snap rings were a pain because I opted for a $5 pair of hft pliers that worked, but poorly. Without them it was impossible. So in a pinch the parts of this handle are interchangeable with the stubby model. I almost took off a star for no mention of the stubby handle incompatibility, but they do have super detailed drawings with every measurement imaginable, so I opted for a full 5 stars because it works great and is as described.

2 minute install. Exact replacement. Amazon ordering process should include a provision to custom select a key/lock number. If this function exists, I couldnt find it. I wanted a key 0004 but received 0005. Works fine, just an extra key on key ring.

I bought a used ARE topper but it didnt come with a key. So ARE makes like 20 keys (#01-20) and you just need to look at the first numbers on the shaft of the T handle to buy the key you need but they are almost the same price as this entire replacement T handle and it brings 2 keys. So obviously I bought the new ARE T handle. Its quick work, 2 screws and put the new one on exactly how you took the old one off. Worth it.

Fit my 2006 ARE model CHH topper perfectly. Took about 5 minutes to swap out. Sprayed white lithium grease into the lock cylinder and every thing functions as smooth as possible.

Perfect replacement, good quality, same size

Works like a charm after you install it the wrong way twice, watch a you tube, have a fight, and give up caring. Install the handle in a vertical orientation with it unlocked. The little black tongue that anchors it may be in a different orientation than the video you watch depending on the actual model of truck and topper you have. A tiny piece of paper in the packaging would save a lot of trouble.

Didn't fit

Direct fit for my ARE cap. Didn't need to modify anything. Mine has the single handle in the middle of the cap.
