Capable Machine with few flaws
I am about to start school in August for an Electrical Engineering degree and have a decent background with building my own PC's. When you buy a laptop it's very important to look at EVERY aspect of it's performance since you'll likely be unable or unwilling to upgrade the internal parts later without a lot of unnecessary hassle. That being said here are the things I love about this laptop, 256GB Storage space: Admittedly this isn't the BEST in the market, however considering how thin and attractive this PC is and the price point, i'm very happy with it. BONUS: ALL of the memory on this pc is SSD storage which means increased performance and cooler/quieter running. 8GB of RAM: I run Photoshop for my personal/professional life. so having the extra RAM to process all my brushstrokes and effects makes this a MUST. anything 4 and under just doesn't cut it if you have lengthy projects to work on. Intel Core i5-7200U: Again another category where you get the best of both worlds, this is both inexpensive and performs well on many benchmarks. It's no powerhouse for gaming mind you, but it'll do the job all the same and give you little trouble. I also get minimal stuttering from Heroes of the storm The keyboard feels soft but responsive and is quiet, plus the backlight is nice. I also like the trackpad, multitouch gestures, smooth surface that doesn't lend to gathering oily junk. The battery is O.K. it's not some megahouse but it's enough to get the job done if you're moving from point A- to point B (Besides who doesn't travel without their cable anyway) I made sure to wipe the OS with a fresh install immedietly after purchase and I notice both a performance and battery boost. Overall rating: I will need more time and will possibly update my review after about a month or two, however I really REALLY enjoy the laptop so far, it's light, responsive, quiet and sexy. Would recommend for price/performance B+

Powerful and stylish, you won't find a better laptop in this price range.
After researching laptops for the past 3 months, I decided to go with the HP Envy 13, and I'm really glad I did. I wanted something that was powerful enough to run Photoshop and Illustrator, as well as something that I could code on and this machine fits the bill. The Kaby Lake core i5 processor (the latest generation chip) coupled with 8 GB of RAM really makes this thing fly. The 1920x1080 pixel screen has a great color profile with decent contrast, and is one of the best screens I've seen in a sub $600 laptop, and images are vivid and crisp on this beautifully bright IPS panel. I've had no issues with overheating or a loud fan as some people have noted, and I've put it through its paces. The build quality on this is awesome, with it's all aluminum body. Very solid and feels good to carry around. It's also a very stylish, attractive machine that rivals the design of a macbook. It's also very easy to type on this (which was a big selling point for me The solid state drive in this thing enables Windows to boot in under 8 seconds, and it has a very high read/write speed. The touchpad is very responsive and a pleasure to use, handling Windows 10 gestures perfectly, making web surfing a breeze. Battery life is great, and I've averaged about 8-9 hours on a charge, and this machine charges fast too... I've gotten a full charge from 5% to 100% in about an hour and a half. Overall I'm very pleased with this purchase, and would recommend it to anyone looking to buy an affordable ultraportable laptop. Fast, stylish and a great screen makes this machine a pure gem. Don't hesitate to purchase it, I'd definitely buy it again.

As two months of a user for this product, here is my review. Pros: -Decent line for the price (way better than another product line in the same amount of $) -Great battery life! I averagely experience 11-13 hour (the programs I mostly use are chrome, word, video player.) -Fast, NVme SSD is used! -light & thin (lighter than the MacBook Air 13" with a case on it.) -It is highly price-efficient. (I bought this when the price dropped to $599.99) even though the price backed up; this laptop still is price-efficient. Cons: -If you like to use your laptop for 14 hours, you should set your brightness less than 15% without using any heavy programs. I experienced 14 hour of using by setting 10% brightness, word, and one tab of explorer edge. - It is not this laptop's fault. but do not download all the updates that HP provides because the updates cause BSOD. The reason why BSOD comes up, there is struggle between the SSD driver with the HP updates. -it is said that screen is 13.3", but It feels like 12" I compared to macbook air 13", the screen is like 0.4-0.6 smaller than macbook air 13" -Glossy screen makes me hard to work right under the light or sunlight. Overall, I give 4 stars for this laptop because there are things I do not like: relatively small screen for 13" model, glossy screen, and the HP driver issues. I would recommend this model for all the college students who look for taking note, do class work, running light design programs. As a student who used MacBook air 13" for 2 years, this laptop completely beats out of its ass. This laptop is not for gamers and heavy program users! What do you expect from this thin laptop? Get yourself a desktop instead. Those who look for a portable laptop, thin & light with great battery life, mid-budget one, cool design, and who is sick of Macbook's price blopping; Here is what you looking for.

Great laptop at an amazing price.
I absolutely love this laptop(I am writing this review with this laptop). First impression very hard build quality(little down point on the plastic screen though). I am using it overseas and was bit worried whether the laptop will arrive in new condition but it was well packaged and i can't seem to find any defect. I bought this laptop for school use. I carry my laptop to classes and to study on my own. This is great so far. (I just had for a day) If anything goes wrong in few weeks I'll update. But it is perfect for now. (There is little fan noise when updating windows or something but it's ok unless you update it in the quite place such as library.) Update 17/02/17 It's great so far. There is a little fan noise when watching 1080p Youtube videos. Still it's fast and gives you what you expect. I don't know about the battery life since I have only used it at home. I guess it will last for 6-7hrs based on my usage(Internet surfing, Youtube, Facebook, typing stuff and Amazon shopping of course!) The speakers are awesome. They don't get Bang&Olufsen logo for nothing. Added a photo of this laptop too. Update 22/02/17 I looked at the warranty status on this laptop and it said it started from Dec. 2016 and ends at Dec. 2017. I bought this laptop on Feb. 2017 so I asked the amazon first and they directed me to ask Hp support team. After explaining my situation to Hp technicians they asked me to send a mail with invoice attached. So I did. And I just received a mail that my warranty is updated. So if there's anyone who has same problem with me contact hp support. (Live chat is the fastest way) About the laptop, It's working great. I also did BIOS update from hp site. I frequently hear fan noises when I update a driver or install something. Still great laptop at an amazing price.

Unacceptably poor quality: BE WARNED!!!
I am completely baffled at how poor quality this product is. I bought this laptop a little less than 5 months ago, and it has fallen apart. Just by the act of regularly opening and closing the laptop, the frame around the screen as separated from the screen. The hinges are incredibly loose to the point where the screen hangs at a larger degree of openness than I want it to-- I have to put the screen up against a fixed object in order for it to stand erect. This is a result of extremely poor design by HP and awful manufacturing quality. I promise you, I have not been abusive to this computer. I have a padded sleeve for it in my backpack, I have never dropped it-- I have done nothing to elicit such awful results. When I first got the laptop, it would make loud cracking noises every time I opened it. I dismissed it because I figured the hinges were stiff from being brand new, but I was sorely mistaken. It has also always had a faulty mouse/clicker, but I looked past that fault until now. I contacted HP support and they told me I had to pay for the repair. That is so unacceptable, as this is 100% a result from awful design and production quality. I will NEVER purchase anything from HP again.

Wonderful little laptop!
I had a wide laptop that my computer guy bought for me that was heavy and cumbersome. After all of the airport security measures regarding large electronic devices went into effect (we fly a lot), I decided to go small and light. The HP Envy 13 is AWESOME! It's fast and light and easy to set up. I also "googled" the battery issue associated with this computer and found a site that checked the battery and found it to be okay. I've been using this computer for a few weeks now and I am extremely happy with it. The only issue I have with it (and this is a negligible issue) is that because it is small, the keyboard takes a bit of getting used to, as the keys are somewhat closer together than I am used to having. After a week or so, my fingers have become used to the smaller keyboard, so this issue is rapidly resolving. The Envy is fast and powerful and does everything I ask of it. Since I am not a computer geek, I have had hubby help me with some of the set up issues, but in short, the learning curve is short. It is a very powerful computer and truly meets all of my needs. I bought one of those neoprene sleeves for it. The fit is a bit snug, but I still like the protection and ease of transporting the Envy and its power cord.

Mehhhh....
I'll admit that I'm not a very 'techy' person. I don't do video or photo editing and I'm not a gamer. I do however, stream quite a bit and do ALOT of word processing and power points. I bought this notebook because I wanted something that's light and thin, basically something more portable than my current 15 inch laptop with decent space. About 2 weeks after I started using it, I noticed that it would get very hot when I'm streaming or working on several documents at once. I'd be interested to know if this is happening to anyone else. I'm currently using a fan to help prevent it from overheating which is a bummer as I'd have to take the fan (which isn't small or thin) with me all over. This defeats the portability for which I had purchased the notebook. There was also a problem with a BIOS update which was taking forever to install. I would leave the notebook on all day and the update would only be "installing" without any progress. Tonight, the update seemed to randomly decide to work. When the computer restarted after the update was completed, HP Support Assistant was still saying that I need to install a BIOS update. Please note that there was no update failure notice. It actually said that the update was completed. I also had a problem whereby when I right clicked on a document or folder, the program would just stop responding. Sometimes this happens and sometimes everything works fine. Not sure what on earth is going on there. Hopefully some other reviewer can enlighten me. These problems are quite discouraging as I'm not sure if they indicate more serious problems. If they do then I would be stuck with a defective computer and quite a bit of resentment towards HP as I live outside of the States and it would be uneconomical for me to return the laptop or send it to HP for repairs. Apart from the aforementioned problems, everything seems to be working fine. I'm just on the edge about it crapping out on me at a crucial time. The computer is aesthetically pleasing. Its light, thin, and very sleek. The display is very high definition but the screen is quite reflective. I've attached a picture illustrating this. I have also attached pictures showing a size and thickness comparison with a 15 inch laptop.

Not Your Average Laptop
When you first open the box and pull out the laptop the first thing you notice is the excellent build quality. Only plastic on this laptop is the bezel around the screen which is a matte black. The look is very sleek and elegant. To me it's a real eye turner. When you open it up and see the screen and power it up, it's a very good looking 1080p ips panel with good color but a little on the reflective side. Keyboard in nicely spaced and backlit with one brightness only. Has a Core I5 Kaby Lake CPU with 8 gigs of ram and a 256 SSD. Not going to game with this but everything else should be a breeze. So far with everything I've done with it which is web browsing, YouTube, Netflix and day to day computing fan noise has been minimal. Heat also has been minimal, but if you don't do what this is intended for, fan and heat will get up there. So far battery life has been good and seems to charge quick. Great ports selection with a Type C port. If you are looking for a high quality laptop for daily use this for the price is hard to beat. Highly recommend.
